Op-Ed: Why Arabs are so Easily Offended
Arutz Sheva ^ | 30/9/12 | Ron Jager

“Call me Ishmael”, is the opening sentence that opens the novel “Moby Dick” authored by Herman Melville. Ishmael, who is telling the story of Moby Dick, recounts that he is sailing to sea out of a sense of alienation and cultural inadequacy.

.....

Ever since the days of Napoleon's landing upon the shores of Egypt at the very end of the 18th Century and bringing with him the modern era to the Middle East, Islam has been unable to free itself from the shackles of inferiority and self-destructive primal rage that typifies the hatred of modern day Islamic radicalism against Western civilization.

In recent years, despite Israel being at the foci of much of what has been termed the "war of civilizations" between the Western world and Islam, Europe is undergoing a rapid demographic transition that will lead to a large Muslim population harboring an unchanging, hostile attitude toward their national communities.

Nicolai Sennels, a Danish psychologist who has had extensive experience with treating Muslim youths has identified four main differences that are important in order to understand the behavior of Muslims and how they interact with Western influences. Without dismissing the intrinsic value of multiculturalism or the need to identify with ones cultural roots Sennels has identified four main differences that are important in order to understand the behavior of Muslims. They concern anger, self-confidence, the so-called "locus of control" and identity.

Westerners are brought up to think of anger as a sign of weakness, powerlessness and lack of self-control.

In Muslim culture, anger is seen as a sign of strength. ....

This is my take as well. Islam is not exactly the most peaceful religion, but the way most Indonesians practice it (and I have spent a lot of time there) it is really pretty laid back. Moreover, in stark contradiction to this gentleman’s thesis, Javenese culture puts a very high value on controlling one’s emotions.

I guess that is the rub. The radicals of Islam have the loudest voices and most visible actions (i.e. terrorism) thus, the "laid-back" muslims are overshadowed.

Actually they are mentally locked in the 11th century ~ that's when the Turks took them over and turned all the Arabic, Berber and Kurdish speaking areas in the Middle East into an enormous tax farm.

They spent the next 600 years under the Turkish boot ~ and then finally some Europeans moved in to liberate them.

True to their nature they then bit the hand of those who freed them.

When I was in Iraq, I decided the muslims acted like prisoners — you were an alpha, a beta, a gamma, or someone’s bitch.

We need to adopt the understanding of prison guards -— or wolf trainers -— when dealing with muslims.

You are alpha, or you are going to get it in the rear.

The West does not understand this.

If you can forgive the “Without dismissing the intrinsic value of multiculturalism...” pc-bs, that is an interesting article.

However, there should be one additional comment regarding the seemlying non-existent temper of the West...once unleashed, Americans have it in them to be brutal, and I will tell you plainly, this American has had enough.

You have to ask that question of Neville Chamberlain. It is/was called, “appeasement” and has never worked but idiots keep trying.

Why are they offended so easily? Maybe millions of them are just violent morons with IQs not much above potted plants.

“The “anger is respected” (bullying) explains why Obama was attracted to Chicago.”

The Arab cultural traits as he explains them bear a lot of similarities to American minority underclass culture....

Actually, they are quite smart about it. They do it because it works.

"If a feral child throws a violent irrational temper tantrum and is never punished, but instead gets everything he desires, his behavior is guaranteed to only become more irrational and violent."

You should see the little monsters they raise in Saudi Arabia and the rest of the muslim world. You see these kids in the "Family" sections of restaurants just going nuts without any restraint. Their parents are probably first cousins. Then they grow up without any interaction with females except their own family members, of which a cousin might be their wife someday--and you get exactly what you describe.

Do Javanese and Indonesian mothers fondle their infant sons’ genitalia? This is done in Arab culture, and might explain a lot.

In the far East, Islam is considered Western. It believes in world conquest and proselytizing by force, which no self-respecting Hindu or Buddhist would want. Shinto-ists aren’t even sure why they do those rituals altogether, so to them the idea of proselytizing for Shinto would be absurd.

Just a few thoughts. Hope my analysis was not mediocre.

But do Christian Arab mothers fondle their infant sons’ genitalia, or is this practiced only among Muslim Arabs? How about them Druze?

Now that you mention it, that would also explain the behavior of Court Street lawyers for whom I’ve worked. They don’t hop around and fire shots in the air, but they do yell and scream a lot and sometimes throw things.

Islam is a JOY-LESS religion!!

Ever see an Arab wedding? Or the Ramalla lynch video? They manage to get some joy out of life.

“Actually they are mentally locked in the 11th century ~ that’s when the Turks took them over and turned all the Arabic, Berber and Kurdish speaking areas in the Middle East into an enormous tax farm.”

Dates, Muawiyah. The Turks prevailed against the Maluks and Persians in 1516. Until then, they were just a big power in Turkic-speaking regions. To be fair, the Mamluks and their predecessors were no big bargain, either.

They spent the next 600 years under the Turkish boot ~ and then finally some Europeans moved in to liberate them.

Please. The Europeans might have incidentally paved a road or two and built an occasional hospital, but the last thing on their minds was liberating anyone. They wanted oil. They wanted geopolitical hegemony. They wanted to screw each other. There were some Arabs in the area where they wanted hegemony, oil, and all that, and since there were a lot of them, they thought it wise not to screw them, but instead let them screw the Jooos! to whom they’d promised a homeland, but “liberate” the Arabs? They simply picked out which aristocratic families could screw which peasants, where. The Saudis got the Hijaz. The Husseinis got Iraq, “Trans-Jordan” and didn’t get what was left of Syria because the French got that, and their adolescent nephew Haj Amin al Husseini got Jerusalem, provided he incited enough anti-Jewish riots. Liberate? Please.

They ARE still inbreeding. If they don’t watch out, eventually they’ll all have blue skin.

Wouldn't that make them Hindu holy people?

NO, DAMMIT! This has got to be redressed! How dare they not make Arabs feel better about themselves? Send them up to conquer Mars, immediately!

That’s the escape plan. They’ll just disappear into the Hindi sub-continent and become mendicants.

Interesting, but the author seems to be making some basic mistakes in confusing Muslims with Arabs.

James Clavell's unfortunately out-of-print novel Whirlwild is a spot-on fictional illustration of your point. The story takes place during the 1979 fall of the Iranian monarchy, and is about a Scottish corporation trying to save it's business and it's assets.

It doesn't deal with Arabian or Arabic Islam, but Iranian--Persian--Islam, and how irrational it is both in the individual Iranian and in Iranian institutionalism. It shows the horror of how women and non-Muslims are treated. The whole body of Islamic men is one huge permanent maelstrom of anger, hatred, condonable murder, bigotry and double-dealing. And it is all permissible in the Islamic zeitgeist. There are one or two mentions of minor Arabic characters as I recall, but the novel deals with Iranians who are Muslim.
