It's the eight-legged discovery of the millennium! An endangered species of spider not seen in more than three decades unexpectedly appeared in Northwest San Antonio two weeks ago. Biologists and science buffs, rejoice.
There's just one downside if you're an area commuter: The spider, no bigger than a dime, showed up in the middle of a $15.1 million highway underpass project on Texas 151 at Loop 1604.
And in this particular case of nature vs. man-made road, the arachnid wins.
The highway project is on hold indefinitely.
SNIP
. . . No other spiders have been spotted in the hole where the one was found.

Who finds spiders in the middle of ongoing construction projects? Seriously. Think about it for a minute.
I really do think the environazis plant some of this. I’m suspicious how this little spider just happened to be “found”.
In Austin, they are good at inventing new species of salamanders to prevent new construction. They’ve invented about six new species of salamanders here in the past decade or so, all of them remarkably found where a new construction project was underway.
It’s time to say something:
“plant”.
Seriously. I’ve seen it mentioned in the past, sometimes it just makes too much sense.
“plant”.
This article says that OBVIOUSLY, they don't know where to look.
Anyways, the whole affair is stupid....really, really stupid...like the snail darter and Hoover Dam.
But, spiders eat cute little bugs.
Madness reigns. The Endangered Species Act must be amended.
Big old spider in my bathroom sink yesterday. I flushed it down and closed the drain. An hour later I went it and opened the drain and she climbed back out. Had to call Mr. Mercat to do her in. I hope she screamed so that her friends were scared off. Brown recluse we think.
Great tagline! Only watched a minute of that show and you are RIGHT the little fat twit and nobama act alike.
Just squash the little beastie any continue the construction. It’s not like anyone likes spiders anyway.
The intersection where this work is occurring is Loop 1604 & 281. It is one of the DEADLIEST and COSTLIEST intersections in ALL of the United States! The number of accidents at this intersection rate in the top 10 intersections in the US - ANNUALLY!
This new “spaghetti-bowl” interchange was designed to allow controlled flow and remove the EIGHT traffic lights with which people must deal!
This work stoppage is going to continue to get HUMANS killed! Of course, the environazis don’t mind if HUMANS die, but spiders are precious!
That’s no problem that a hundred volunteers with 100 gallons of insecticide couldn’t cure. They could just saturate the whole area some night and be done with it.
is this the road to Bulverde? I lived in San Antonio many years ago (87-92) and that was a busy intersection then. I thought that was north of town not northwest.
