Federal government to buy closed Ill. prison for $165M, vows will not house Gitmo detainees
Article by: SOPHIA TAREEN , Associated Press Updated: October 2, 2012 - 1:23 PM
CHICAGO - The federal government has agreed to buy the closed Thomson Correctional Center in western Illinois for $165 million after the sale was held up for three years, state leaders announced Tuesday.
Many Illinois leaders including U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and Gov. Pat Quinn who spoke to The Associated Press ahead of a news conference to announce the sale supported the purchase because they said it would bring up to 1,100 jobs to Illinois. Federal officials have said it would help alleviate prison overcrowding.
"It means a prison that has been sitting here empty will be used again and create a lot of opportunity for working families in the areas," Durbin said.

So, Congress, what are you going to do about it?
"I want my mommy"
WOuldn’t it be easier just to build a wall around CHicago?
Just across the river from Davenport, Iowa.
If the terrorists can swim (not likely IMHO), I’d advise anybody in Davenport to stock up on weapons.
Post of the week!
The executive branch owns ALL of the federal prisons.
By-passed Congress....yet, again!

Chairman King Statement on Obama Administrations Decision to Purchase Illinois Prison Where it Sought to House Guantanamo Terrorists
OCT 2, 2012
Issues: 9/11 Trials / Guantanamo Detainees
Washington, D.C. Today, Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, issued the following statement on the Obama Administrations purchase of Thomson Prison in Illinois:
After widespread and bipartisan opposition to President Obamas outrageous and dangerous plan to close the ultra-secure detention facility at Guantanamo Bay and import the terrorists to the U.S. Homeland for trial in civilian courts in New York City and elsewhere, I thought this issue was settled.
In order to keep these terrorists out of the United States, Congress reflected the will of the American people by explicitly opposing the purchase of the Thomson Illinois prison, where the Obama Administration has sought to transfer the Guantanamo terrorists.
Yet, in direct defiance of the will of the People, the Administration today announced that it will buy the Thomson prison for at least $165 million.
Obama Administration officials today promised that Guantanamo terrorists will not be transferred to the Thomson prison, citing Congressional action prohibiting it. I have trouble believing Obama Administration promises.
If the Obama Administration is willing to ignore Congress about the purchase of the Thomson prison, how are the American people expected to trust that the Administration will not ignore Congress about the transfer of terrorists into it? I pledge to continue working to keep the Obama Administration from moving dangerous terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to the U.S. Homeland.
(.....a question they won't answer......and we are too decent to ask as we haven't yet thrown in the towel as have the House and Senate members).
3 or 4 shifts of guards.... maintenance, administration, dr nursing, blah blah blah....
