Mitt Romney Worked As a Garbage Man (AFSCME ad failure)

Yesterday, AFSCME put out a rather silly ad featuring Mitt Romney’s former garbage collector in La Jolla, California. The ad begins:

My name is Richard Hayes, and I pick up Mitt Romney’s trash. We’re kind of like the invisible people. He doesn’t realize that the service we provide – if it wasn’t for us, it would be a big health issue, us not picking up trash.

Get the sledgehammer message? Mitt Romney doesn’t understand! Romney could have no idea about quotidien things such as trash collection because his wealth and detachment prevent him from having to know what life is like for blue-collar workers such as Mr. Hayes.

There’s just one problem with this, and it lies on page 251 of Mitt Romney’s book, No Apology:

During my campaign for governor, I decided to spend a day every few weeks doing the jobs of other people in Massachusetts. Among other jobs, I cooked sausages at Fenway Park, worked on asphalt paving crew, stacked bales of hay on a farm, volunteered in an emergency room, served food at a nursing home, and worked as a child-care assistant. I’m often asked which was the hardest job – it’s child care, by a mile.

One day I gathered trash as a garbage collector. I stood on that little platform at the back of the truck, holding on as the driver navigated his way through the narrow streets of Boston. As we pulled up to traffic lights, I noticed that the shoppers and businesspeople who were standing only a few feet from me didn’t even see me. It was as if I was invisible. Perhaps it was because a lot of us don’t think garbage men are worthy of notice; I disagree – anyone who works that hard deserves our respect. – I wasn’t a particularly good garbage collector: at one point, after filling the trough at the back of the truck, I pulled the wrong hydraulic lever. Instead of pushing the load into the truck, I dumped it onto the street. Maybe the suits didn’t notice me, but the guys at the construction site sure did: “Nice job, Mitt,” they called. “Why don’t you find an easier job?” And then they good-naturedly came down and helped me pick up my mess.

Here’s Romney working as a garbage collector:

I’d rather have a trash collector as President of the United States, rather than the garbage bags who are in there right now.

You can dig a garbage pit and burn it.

“Invisible” until some ad agency pays you a lot of money to demean one of your clients. Richard Hayes probably searches celebrities’ garbage for evidence he can peddle to The Enquirer or soiled panties he sell on eBay.

Reminds of the revelation that Obama had actually EATEN dog as recorded in his audio book in his own voice. We haven’t heard any more about Mitt riding poor Seamus on the roof of his car since. I predict the same fate for the Richard Hayes story.

So Mitt Romney has at least 1 day more of blue collar work experience than Barack Obama.

What a moron. Or what a moron who wrote the script.

Duh, collecting garbage is good? I NEVER knew that! And I'm SURE Romney never knew that either.

Everyone knows that Mitt is not a man of the little people like the Obamas, who have a close personal relationship with their garbage men.

Each collection day the Obamas have their garbage men in for a rest break and to do some whacky weed with Barack - maybe a litle blow, if he can get it.

And on their way back to the truck Michelle always has a nice handmade potpourri sachet and an arugula salad to go for each of them.

My favorite part is where the garbageman says “People would come out, shake our hands, hug us and thank us for the job we were doing.”

Who does that? NOBODY! Total lying sack of um, garbage.

Amendment: I do thank the garbage guys if I happen to see them taking my trash. Around Christmas I give them some cash, and in the dog days of August I give them a 24-pack of cold beer.

But hugs? No way.

I don’t know who my garbage collector is, nor do I really give a darn. I take comfort in the knowledge that someone is performing this service, for which I pay, and the collection service is a viable business providing employment and strengthening the economy.

Does that make me evil and uncaring as well?

ROTFLMAO!

The political work of the AFSCME, http://www.afscme.org/union/about

Another government employee union group. Who do they rail against?
Greedy rich corporations? Wall Street financiers? Corrupt and abusive small business owners?

No, their #1 enemy is their evil employers, the taxpaying voting citizens of the USA!

One President's executive order allowed it, another President should issue an executive order to forbid it.
