GOP: US Consulate received repeated threats, had requested more security

Two House Republicans say they have been informed by whistleblowers that the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was attacked and threatened 13 times before the incident last month that killed four Americans.

Reps. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) sent Secretary of State Hillary Clinton a letter on Tuesday that detailed the whistleblowers’ allegations.

“Based on information provided to the Committee by individuals with direct knowledge of events in Libya, the attack that claimed the ambassador’s life was the latest in a long line of attacks on Western diplomats and officials in Libya in the months leading up to September 11, 2012,” Issa and Chaffetz wrote. “It was clearly never, as Administration officials once insisted, the result of a popular protest."

Wolf Blitzer had Pelousy on a little while ago and asked her about this. She said the "do-nothing Republicans" were to blame because they wouldn't pass a bill funding security over there!! I would have thrown heavy objects at the TV screen but I intentionally keep heavy things away from my desk.

This was done intentionally. The One didn’t want to annoy his co-religionists with a show of force. Better to let Americans die. Once again, an innocent person is sacrificed on the altar of political correctness.

Amazing! Yet the Marine Corps says the decision was up to the State Dept.

State Dept. Rules of Engagement Kept Marines out of Tripoli, Benghazi in Libya

The Marine Corps has issued a statement regarding its involvement in the recent actions in Egypt and Libya. ..

In Libya, the Corps says that no Marines are stationed at the Embassy in Tripoli or the Consulate in Benghazi. Security in Libya, such as it existed, apparently was provided by contractors. The Rules of Engagement under which they operated are unclear.

Decisions regarding whether to have Marines at particular U.S. embassies and consulates fall to the State Department, according to the Marine Corps statement. In the case of Tripoli, the Corps says there were discussions with the State Department about establishing a detachment at the embasssy in Tripoli, a new embassy, some time in the next five years. That may seem like a long time, but for bureaucrats it is often considered ASAP.

How often do other Consulates or Embassies receive threats? Is this normal or unusual? If it is out of the ordinary to receive this many threats, then someone has some explaining to do.

Do we really need a statistical comparison to assess threat levels in Muslim countries that have just undergone regime changes, like Libya and Egypt, to understand the relative danger? I’m sure our embassy in Paris gets threats too. Between that one and the one in Libya that we just bombed the bejeesus out of which one seems more likely to be vulnerable?

It makes Stevens action that night even more curious.

Why was he taking a journal with him?

Was his journal -found 4 days later by CNN- a plant to get this ball rolling about security?

The “do-nothing Republicans” didn’t stop the funding of obamaphones, millions to HBCUs, more food stamps, etc. But Pelousy will be the first one bitching that all Republicans want to spend money is “defense”.

Well we have a number of bombed embassies in the past. So this isn’t unheard of. What is unheard of is the ambassador getting killed. I am not sure of what the resources are to cover all of these facilities in the world as the total number when you include both embassies and consulates must number well into the hundreds.
I think this is Vicent Foster’s ghost come back.
