Missouri's Akin, left for dead, on comeback trail
Washington Examiner ^ | 10/03/2012 | Paul Bedard

Missouri Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin, thrown under the bus by Karl Rove and the Washington GOP establishment for his "legitimate rape" comment, is making a strong comeback in the polls and is now better-liked than incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill.

Five weeks after making the comments that at the time seemed career-ending, Rasmussen Reports has Akin six points behind McCaskill, 51 percent to 45 percent. That result shows an improvement over past polls, some that had him behind by 10 points. And among those "certain to vote," he trails McCaskill by just four points, said Rasmussen.

More surprising is that he is better-liked than McCaskill, found Rasmussen. Some 47 percent of likely Missouri voters have a favorable view of Akin, with 30 percent in the "very favorable" category. Some 41 percent view McCaskill favorably, with just 14 percent "very favorable."

The uptick in the polls comes as outside groups are pouring volunteers and money into Akin's campaign. The Family Research Council, for example, told Secrets that they plan to host a week-long bus tour through Missouri to energize Evangelical and Catholic voters for Akin, long opposed to abortion.

I guess because Todd is from MO and the Show me state,
he will have to show the GOP what a determined person
can do against the establishment.

Get behind him and give him some bucks.

GO TODD GO!!!!

It’s amazing how many “conservatives” miss the fact that Akin’s lifetime ACU rating is 97.24, and McCasket’s is 14.60.

Even I wouldn’t vote for Akin and I dearly want a GOP Senate.

Sure you do.

There are scientific studies that backs up the claim that when a women is under extreme stress, that extreme stress interferes with her ability to conceive

care to cite one peer reviewed study on WOMEN and rape tha confirms what you just wrote

I swear, who needs the ‘rats to spin a Republicans words into maliciousness when other Republicans will do the job for them?

‘rats get a pass for saying things much worse than this and all the other ‘rats stand up for them. We jump all over ours for their spinlessness in standing down, like Trent Lott-and that’s true enough. So Akin doesn’t stand down when any fair-minded person can tell that he meant nothing malicious, and the Republican establishment jumps on him as hard as the ‘rats.

That’ll sure teach Republicans to quit folding under ‘rat pressure everytime they accuse us of speaking in “code” or using “dog whistles”, or even not wording something in the most judicious way, even if the man’s record speaks to his character.

Political correctness and the art of being “offended” have ruined honest discourse and thought in this country.

I think the same thing about Romney. I was going to hold my nose and vote for him, but seeing as how you RINOs can't bring yourselves to vote for REAL Conservatives, forget it. I changed my mind. You guys are worse than dems.

I just sent Akin a donation yesterday. I plan to send him another one when I get paid again. I think he is going to win.

The Stupid Party beltway consultants with their great big egos and teeny-weeny little limp d!cks are blowing this one, Big Time. This should be a slam dunk against an idiot and chump like McRoadkill. Instead, these fools are persisting in throwing it to an 0bama moron just because he made a stupid remark. Hell, McCurdle has made thousands of them and she votes wrong every time besides!!

This is the major reason why I refuse to give $$$ any more directly to the Stupid Party. Instead, I concentrate on the individual candidates whom I support (and whom they often don't).

Some links to those studies were posted here on FR. You can find them with a little effort.

Just Google stress and conception. You’ll find information how stress can effect hormone levels, interrupt ovulation cycles, prevent egg implantation on the uterus, all things critical to conception. This isn’t rocket science.

If anyone watched the debate between Akin and McCaskill, they would see why this statement is true. McCrackle came across as a bitchy witch by not only constantly screaming at Akin but bragging about her credentials like she was some sort of a god. Of course, she didn't mention she was the "60th vote" that got Obamacare passed. Todd was calm, cool and collected as she did her hissy fit. Even smiling like Reagan did when he was debating Carter and having to listen to his insults. When Todd's turn came up to answer questions, he did so in a very professional way. One of my favorites as well as others was “There is nothing as scary as your insurance company coming between you and your doctor UNLESS it is the federal govt coming between you and your doctor” A great Reagan type response.

Newt,DeMint,Roy Blunt,Santorum, are just a few national supporters that have come on board for Todd. Now, the RNSC has said they were going to give him the funding since he is staying in the race. McCaskill underestimated Todd. He has more funding and supporters coming on board each day. McCrackel WILL be defeated and we will finally have a true Conservative Senator from Missouri that just may be the one that gives us a majority. How sweet it will be.

No studies have not proven what you ignorantly claim. You are showing as much if not more ignorance than Akin himself.

Studies on Cortisol levels and miscarriage are no proof that pregnancy is any less likely when sperm is introduced forcibly or voluntarily.. PERIOD.. You and others claims to the contrary are incredibly ignorant.

Cortisol is a stress hormone, and PREGNANCY ITSELF is stressful, and findings that higher coritsol levels lead to higher incidence of miscarriage are not proof general stress causes miscarriage, its an indicator, not a causation. Problems with the pregnancy defacto cause higher cortisol levels.

You and others completely ignorant claims that studies of women with fertility issues who are actively trying to become pregnant are equivalent to a rape victim are nonsensical as well.

Pregnancy rates for rape victims are the same as consentual sex.. from a single sex act, whether voluntary or forced are consistently in the single digit odds of becoming pregnant. Anyone or anything telling you otherwise is an abject IDIOT.

Akins will lose, if he doesn’t make me eat crow the day after the election.

The RNC was absolutely right to cut ties from this guy and end him being a mill stone around every other republicans neck.

If individual republicans wish to support hte guy so be it, but the RNC was right to cut this guy off, and move away from him.

If he pulls it out great, but saving his seat would have cost easily many other close races, and the RNC made the right call.

Personally I think anyone as ignorant as this guy showed himself to be about basic biology I sure don’t want making or ratifying laws in my book.

Like I said, make me eat crow on election night.. until then I’ve said the last I’m going to say about this guy.

Here’s the bottom line this November:

If you want Obamacare repealed, you have to support Akin.

If you are against sex selection and partial birth abortion, you have to support Akin.

If you want to continue to keep and bear arms, you have to support Akin.

If you want two to four new Supreme Court judges who believe in the parts of the Constitution that are inconvenient to liberals, and who won’t find hidden new provisions that miraculously support the liberal agenda, you have to support Akin.

Townhall K. Schlicther

Akin voted against the stimulous; voted to repeal Obamacare 30 times; A rating with the National Rifle Association; 100% pro-life; 100% from the American Conservative Union; voted against cash for clunkers; voted against the Wall St Bailout.STARK DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SCARE MCCACKLES AND TODD AKIN! DO NOT FALL FOR THE MEDIA HYPE...SUPPORT A TRUE CONSERVATIVE THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR OUR COUNTRY'S FUTURE. CLAIRE HAS THE UNIONS AND PRO CHOICE MOVEMENT BEHIND HER AND JUST HAD A FUNDRAISER IN MANHATTEN WITH CHUCKIE SCHUMER...SHE HAS A 4 MILLION DOLLAR WAR CHEST!

Studies on Cortisol levels and miscarriage are no proof that pregnancy is any less likely when sperm is introduced forcibly or voluntarily.. PERIOD.

Simply IGNORANT AND WRONG!!! You get the ignorant "DUH" award.

"In the first study to provide evidence that stress reduces the chances of conception, scientists have found that women with high levels of adrenalin, the "fight or flight" hormone, were less likely to get pregnant."

"The researchers asked the women to keep a diary recording their menstruation, lifestyle (smoking and drinking) and how often they had sex. On day six of their menstrual cycle they were asked to collect a saliva sample with a cotton wool swab inside their cheek. Two biological markers were measured – cortisol, a hormone linked with chronic stress – and alpha-amylase, an indicator of adrenalin.

"To the researchers surprise, only adrenalin levels were linked with reduced conception. Cortisol levels, indicating chronic stress, had no effect."

"We had the hypothesis that it was going to be the chronically stressed women who had these problems. But it was very interesting that there was no link with the cortisol levels," Dr Pyper said."
