Despite his harsh criticism of the George W. Bush administrations handling of Hurricane Katrina in 2007, President Obama decided not to waive a requirement that state and local governments contribute 25 percent of relief funds devoted to cleaning up after a tornado that swept through Joplin, Mo. in May 2011.
The Stafford Act requires those matching funds in order to collect federal disaster relief money, but that requirement may be modified or even waived at the presidents discretion.
Whats happening down in New Orleans, Obama asked in a video of a June 2007 speech at Hampton University obtained by The Daily Caller. Wheres your dollar? Wheres your Stafford Act money?
Obama misstated the Stafford Acts requirements, saying that Hurricane Katrina-ravaged communities mostly black communities were expected to contribute ten percent of the rebuilding funds on their own.
The federal government, he complained, hadnt footed the entire bill for Katrina cleanup as it had in the aftermath of 9/11 and Hurricane Andrew.

I guess Joplin must be a white suburban city
Its not like O didn’t have the money. He was sitting on a trillion in stimulus money he could have spent.
Maybe the tornado hit the suburbs. We all know how Obama feels about the suburbs.
9/11 wasn’t simply a disaster and Katrin wasn’t terrorism. Those on 9/11 had no warning and absolutely no chance of surviving. Big difference. This Stafford Act thing should not be a scandal at all except in the other direction.
Pretty sure he did the same thing with the tornados that went through Alabama but he waived it for the Ohio floods of 2011.
Just heard on Fox Eric Bolling just reported that 10 days before Obama made that 2007 speech railing about Stafford Act and Katrina, he voted AGAINST waiving the Stafford Act as a senator; 87 senators voted to waive it for New Orleans, Obama voted to keep it.
Can someone confirm?
Must be something about the people down there
Barack Obama doesn’t care about white people.
Joplin is in Jasper County, which voted 2-1 for McCain. (Obama did a little better than Kerry did in 2004). Elections have consequences—if you vote against Obama, don’t expect him to help you out.
