The U.S. government paid a Chicago consultant hundreds of thousands of dollars to put on diversity training workshops that, according to one watchdog, included an exercise in which employees were told to chant "our forefathers were illegal immigrants."
Conservative group Judicial Watch made the claim this week as it released a handful of documents pertaining to the program -- and alleged that the sessions held by the Department of Agriculture ended up enforcing political views more than promoting tolerance.
"Instead of being diversity-oriented or tolerance-oriented, it's more about adopting a mindset," said Lisette Garcia, a senior investigator with the group. "It seemed to go so far as to encourage illegal immigration."
But the USDA denied that the workshop was anything more than a training exercise to "examine stereotypes."
"Participants did not chant during these workshops," a department official said. "In one portion of the session, the presenter had participants repeat provocative and potentially offensive phrases as part of an exercise to examine stereotypes. The statements were not reflective of USDA or its policy."
Judicial Watch began to investigate the sessions earlier this year after being approached by a tipster at USDA who was "offended" by them, Garcia said. Judicial Watch claims it has identified at least $200,000 spent by the USDA over the last two years on the company Souder, Betances & Associates.
The USDA later confirmed that amount.
The tipster, Garcia said, described one session in which the speaker led workers in chanting "our forefathers were illegal immigrants" while pounding on the table and getting others in the room to join in.
"How does that fit into the USDA mission at all?" she said. "The price tag makes it more egregious."

“our forefathers were illegal immigrants”
Did nobody ask “What laws did they violate in immigrating?”?
Apparently Souder, Betances & Associates is a “diversity training group” which is another word for fraud.
My immigrant great-grandparents were NOT illegal. They had to have proof that they had purchased land and would not become a public burden before they were allowed into this country. We would be a far richer nation had that rule been kept in place.
And how did that work out for the Native Americans?
Shut down the USDA. It’s really the “Free” Food Agency anyway, with 80% of its budget directed to food stamps, WIC, and those horrible Mooshelle-directed school lunches.
Oh, look. We got democratic donors here
Oh, look. We got democratic donors here. From Chicago, no less.
I wish some dope would try this cr*p with me. My forebears were NOT illegal immigrants and in fact we have a lovely family story about some gal who did try to enter the country illegally and was sent back to the old sod.
Now, if only we could find a way to deport liberals!
None of the earliest european settlers were illegal immigrants. They engaged in the only acceptable real estate transfer method in practice at the time; conquest. It’s the same one the natives had used for years.
” Now, if only we could find a way to deport liberals!”
Maybe trick them into leaving.
Hey, liberals! Look! Free stuff at the bottom of the ocean!
I’m sorry, but it now has everything to do with the times we live in.
Every people—tribe, nation, ethnic group—got where they are by taking over and pushing out someone else. That includes American Indians. Almost every tribe conquered people before them.
Same in Europe, most famous for the barbarian invasions after the Roman empire fell.
The history and prehistory of human life on Earth has been one of migration and conquest.
It was Western civilization and modern, Christian-led enlightenment that led to the establishment of the rule of law and justice rather than might and fight that we’ve always been under.
Today, not one modern nation allows non-citizen foreigners to simply walk across their borders and set up shop. Well, there is one. The United States of America.
Had I not seen such foolishness with my own eyes, I would hardly believe it.
This is some kind of mind control experiment and whomever perpertrated it should be fired immediately. We are not a nation of mindless, chanting drones.
Start working on your conservative wish list of federal agencies that need to be both reduced in stature, authoritarianism, and political correctness, those that need major structural reform and reduction, and those that need to be entirely eliminated.
If you want to take this project seriously, here is the large size “Death & Taxes” chart (not the interactive version)(be sure to save to disk), that shows where the government spends our money and makes debt for our posterity to supposedly pay while they are in poverty.
Some on my list so far:
US Department of Education, elimination. ($77.4b)
US Department of Homeland Security, dismantled, retaining ICE and several other sub agencies.
US Department of Agriculture, severely reduced.
HHS and HUD, severely reduced.
US FDA, severely reduced.
US Department of Labor, severely reduced.
NASA GISS, eliminated.
US Drug Enforcement Agency, severely reduced.
BATF&E, significantly reduced.
EPA, severely reduced.
Department of the Interior, significant reductions, along with the restoration of most state lands taken by presidential proclamation for 100 years.
It’s a good start, but nowhere near an inclusive list.
