Conservatives: Jobs data is phoney By: Kevin Robillard October 5, 2012 09:51 AM EDT

The release Friday of unexpectedly positive jobs numbers immediately touched off a conspiracy theory among conservatives, who suggested the data was being manipulated.

“Chicago style politics is at work here,” Florida GOP Rep. Allen West wrote on his Facebook page. “Somehow by manipulation of data we are all of a sudden below 8 percent unemployment, a month from the Presidential election. This is Orwellian to say the least and representative of Saul Alinsky tactics from the book ‘Rules for Radicals’- a must read for all who want to know how the left strategize.”

West added, “Trust the Obama administration? Sure, and the spontaneous reaction to a video caused the death of our Ambassador……and pigs fly.”

While West is the only government official to buy into the manipulation idea so far, he has plenty of company in the conservative movement.

“Either the Federal Reserve, which has its fingers on the pulse of every element of the economy, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics manufacturing survey report are grievously wrong or the number used to calculate the unemployment rate are wrong, or worse manipulated,” Americans for Limited Government declared in a press release. “Given that these numbers conveniently meet Obama’s campaign promises one month before the election, the conclusions are obvious.”

The group’s president, Rick Manning, declared the president had hired “infamous Iraqi Information Minister Baghdad Bob to calculate the unemployment rate. Anyone who takes this unemployment report serious is either naïve or a paid Obama campaign adviser.”

They’ll make sure it will float back up to 7.9% just before the election just to make sure they are not looked at as TOO partisan.

I think this is beyond politics...it's criminal. I heard nothing can be revised until AFTER the election. Why? I hope some honest people that are in the know will be able to prove these were manipulated numbers...the math doesn't add up. Chicago thugs at work...praying some get angry enough to investigate and get to the real numbers...which are closer to 15%.

And yes, family member who works for government is seeing new hirees they don't even need! Just an attempt to inflate the unemployment rate.

You will also note that within the first paragraph of every news report on this ‘wonderful’ drop in UE, is a reference to how this bolsters Obama’s campaign. Smell test fail.

So . . . Who among our elected representatives is going to call the BLS in and get to the bottom of this?

Bueller?

“Part-time “because I couldn’t get another job” went up 953,000”

Which is based on the phony household survey of just a handful of households. Remember, 953,000 households aren’t called, just a fraction of them, therefore the 953,000 is more of an estimate/speculation by BLS bureaucrats based on the sampling of a few. So if someone responded “I raked leaves last week to earn a few extra bucks because I can’t find a steady job” then bang, they’re added to the statistics as being part time employed, and with the assumption that other households are doing the same, magically the 953,000 number appears, just in time for the election. The amount of manipulation by the Obama BLS is likely on a level never seen before.

Thanks for sending me the BLS stats. But did not see the 802,000 discouraged workers on the report.

Does that figure represent the number of discouraged workers dropping out of the labor market for month of September ALONE? If so, this is truly a HORRIBLE jobs report, one of the worst ever.

yes, for one month alone.

And August was even higher. They have manipulated the number of unemployed to be 1.6 million less than it should be in two months.

Instead of showing 13.5 million, it’s showing 12 million unemployed. With each million worth 3/4 of a point in unemployment, that means an entire point+ difference in just 2 months.

These numbers don’t meet Obama’s promise. He said the rate wouldn’t go above 8% with the stimulus. He didn’t say the rates would surge & eventually get below 8%. Why would anyone define his promise that way !!!!

It’s going to be too little too late, because (1) the real jobless rate is anywhere close to 8%; (2) Americans do not “feel” like this is a good economy by any stretch of the immagination; (3) most voters have already made up their mind.
