Suspicion about the federal government's September jobs report has fallen on Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, who appeared on CNBC this morning and defended the numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), claiming--falsely--that upward revisions of 86,000 jobs were from the private sector. In fact, the new number is entirely accounted for by upwards revisions to state and federal government payrolls.
The BLS reported that while only 114,000 jobs were created in September--which would have translated into a rise in unemployment from 8.1% to 8.2%--the unemployment rate fell dramatically to 7.8%. That unusual drop is the fastest in nearly three decades, and was unexpected even in the rosiest predictions.
One reason for the rise was an upward revision of 86,000 to the July and August jobs numbers--all of which came from a 91,000 increase in the estimate of public sector jobs. Private sector job estimates were actually revised downward by 5,000.

One of the bright analysts they have suggested that you could sell a few things on ebay and be considered "employed"--you could take ten bucks to mow grass and be employed, etc. and that part-time employment is what is driving these numbers!

CNBC questioned her about this an hour ago and it was classic...the exchange went something like this:
CNBC Host- “sect’y, many on Wall Street are questioning todays unemployment numbers considering new job creation fell short of expectations- what’s your response?”
Broome Hilda Solis- “i’m sorry- i’m having trouble hearing you as its a bit noisy where you are...could you repeat the question”
CNBC Host- “i apologize for the noise- let me REPHRASE the question”...
Broome Hilda’s response was she’s insulted...
Now the liberals will say that Porkulus succeeded. Since the stated goal of Porkulus was to keep unemployment under 8%, they will now say that Porkulus succeeded beyond their wildest dreams! Look for the MSNBC crowd to celebrate these new unemployment numbers!!!
Either way, very suspect numbers....

I have heard of people denied unemployment because they did an EMT call w/a $60 stipend within the time period being considered. Evidently, if you receive even $1 for work of any sort, you are not *unemployed*.
If the BLS numbers were real the stock market would be up 400 points. We will be luck if we even end on the plus side today.
The Street knows these BLS numbers are horse-pucky.

I agree. This is also a big sign of their desperation. It's highly unlikely they would have cooked up such a big change overnight if they weren't scared. They were overconfident earlier, felt they didn't need to ‘cook the books’, but now are in a panic and don't have much time left - so they had to do this in one fell swoop.
This is the kind of unethical behavior you get from agenda and hate-driven ideologues. In their heads they think it is justifiable for them to lie - because their ‘cause’ is so important.
The rate is simply based on a SURVEY...a PHONE POLL of "households". And as we know, polls are ALWAYS totally accurate....riiiight?
Also, the survey takers are ALL Hilda Solis' employees, and as we know she is TOTALLY NON-PARTISAN!
These ‘new and improved’ juiced numbers are the biggest desperate gamble this regime has ever attempted.
Not for this ‘snap shot’ look at the unemployment numbers but because it will bring ALL OF THEIR DATA under question.

I agree with former GE CEO Jack Welch, Chicago style politics is at work here. Somehow by manipulation of data we are all of a sudden below 8 percent unemployment, a month from the Presidential election.

Number of first-time jobless claims in September: 367,000 (Week ending Sept. 28th)
The average weekly first time jobless claims in September averaged over 360,000 which means in September, 1,440,000 people lost their jobs and had to find a new one.
Does it stand to reason to anyone with a functioning brain that the unemployment rate could “drop” three-tenths of a percent with those numbers?
It’s mathematically impossible!

A look at the Labor Force Participation Rate tells the TRUE STORY behind the 7.8% number. Our economy is at an ALL TIME LOW in the percentage of working age adults that have full-time employment.
Since January of 2009, the Labor Force Participation Rate which the Bureau of Labor Statistics maintains shows that the rate has steadily declined under Obama!
Under Obama, the Labor Force Participation Rate, which was at record high’s under Bush have fallen to historic lows under Obama!
Who’s to blame for that? Obama and his FAILED ECONOMIC POLICIES, THAT”S WHO!
I think most American’s with a reasonably functioning brain, capable of doing basic math can see how Obama’s been DESTROYING our economy and driving people out of the work force to artificially deflate the unemployment numbers!
Great spin, if one can pull it off – but the DATA shows Obama and his policies to be an abysmal failure.
Now here’s the truth about the stellar “job creation” the Associated Pravda (I meant “Press”) is telling about the economy:
It's now being reported that the economy created 114,000 jobs.
That's 114,000 across all 50 states.
That's 2,280 jobs per state. (114,000 / 50)
That's 570 jobs per week, per state. (2280 / 4 weeks)
What does that mean for the average job seeker? There are only 81 jobs per day, per state are being created under the Obama economy! (This is the stat that Romney needs for the next debate!)
Yeah, I guess I don't blame Obama for not wanting to talk about the economy during the debate the other night!
