ST. PETERSBURG,Fla.Mitt Romney, his friends often say, is a private man in a public world. But with just one month left until the election, he has calculated that to win the presidency he must do what for years he has been loath to: share intimate stories about his life.
So it was that as the sun set on his rally here Friday night,...Romney talked about David for the first time himself.
It was clear he was not going to make it,Romney said. I went into his room one night when he was in bed,and he asked me a very difficult question. He said, Mitt, whats next? He called me Brother Romney. Whats next? And I talked to him about what I believe is next.
A few days later, when David was in the hospital,he called Romney.
I was at work and he said,Can you come by? And he said,You went to law school, right?'
Romney told him yes. He said,Could you come by and write my will for me?' Romney recalled. So I went to Davids bedside and got a piece of legal paper, made it look very official. And then David proceeded to tell me what he wanted to give his friends. Talked about his fishing rod, and who would get that. He talked about his skateboard, whod get that. And his rifle that went to his brother.
Ive seen the character of a young man like David, Romney continued. He had his eyes wide open. Theres a saying Clear eyes, full heart, cant lose. David couldnt lose. I loved that young man.
It just so happens that a banner with the same adage hung over Romneys holding room backstage at Wednesday nights debate in Denver. As he walked out to debate the president,Romney looked up and read, Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Cant Lose!

This is a beautiful story, and a beautiful picture. The link to the WASHPOST does not seem to contain the story, though. Odd.
It may be cynical for me to say, but this approach is going to win it for him.

I think there will be civil war if Obama gets elected.
I think there will be civil war if Romney gets elected.
It’s basically the free-loaders vs. the freedom-lovers, and if government gets totally behind the first group, America will cease to exist.
I had the photo. It was posted on Twitter by Mitt’s team.
Mitt uses that sign as a good luck before/after debates and big events. It’s his Team’s motto, like a locker room sign for a football team.

[LARA CERRI | Tampa Bay Times] The line of Romney supporters stretched from the Pier to the Renaissance Vinoy. Several local lawmakers also attended, including U.S. Reps. Gus Bilirakis and C.W. Bill Young, former St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker and former Tampa Mayor Dick Greco.
[Corey Perrine/Staff Naples News] Mitt waves to the crowd after delivering a speech Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at Pier Park in St. Petersburg, Fla. Romney, Republican nominee for the U.S. presidency, continued his tour of swing states in a tight race toward Nov. 6, Election Day.
I just clicked on the link and it is does go to the source (posted article).
... “Romney told of ministering to the needy in his Mormon church, including a 14-year-old who was dying of leukemia and summoned Brother Romney to his bedside. He also spoke of an old friend who ended up a quadriplegic after an accident, came to see Romney recently and died the next day.”...
After reading Machiavelli, I must agree with you, as you agree with him.
Mitt’s Body Man on Twitter posts great pictures all day. As does Team Romney
https://twitter.com/TeamRomney
I think he was talking about the photo.
It is so easy to be a cynic these days; especially when trying to see through the cloud made by political dirty tricks and the media. I think that you might be right despite favoring others in the primary, Mitt might turn out to be the best we had to beat Obama. I don’t know if the Obama campaigns billion dollars in largely questionable donations is going to be enough to keep the electorate confused about what is going on.
“The link to the WASHPOST does not seem to contain the story, though.”
You have to go to the second page. And they don’t have the picture shown here, nice shot of the plane though.
Great photo, thanks for posting!
I’m not a fan of Mitt, but I am a fan of the NBC show Friday Night Lights. Coach Eric Taylor’s rallying cry for his team was “Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose.” His character was one of the few positive portrayals of a husband/father on network tv in recent years. (I don’t know where the actor’s from, but he had the Texas man mannerisms down pat - he’d do a great job playing W.)
After his performance in the first debate & now this, I might can leave that clothespin at home when I go vote.
“It is beginning to look more and more as if the correct person was chosen to run this time. We may still be under the Protection of Divine Providence.”
Trust me, God has nothing to do with Mitt Romney. BTW, I saw an interview on the BBC with an apostate Mormon who asked Romney to be there for her sick child since he was the Bishop. He didn’t show, which was part of the reason why she left the church entirely. She had the child outside of marriage and Mitt (during her pregnancy) allegedly wanted her to give up the kid to a Mormon adoption agency.
It’s amazing to me how gullible people are when there is solid proof, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this man lies as he breaths for purely political reasons. Even now, his message is entirely different from what it was in the primaries, and we even have his campaign guy admitting that Romney is changing his positions to move to the center, basically establishing that he was lying to us throughout the primaries. And, to make matters worse, they pretend that God somehow has chosen him and is even the author of his sins.
2Jn 1:10-11 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: (11) For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
“This brings tears to my eyes.”
It is a moving story. I think we all remember being 14 and how hard it is at that age to be taken seriously by adults. I’m sure if you’re really sick (dying even) it is even worse, I’m sure people are babying you all the time and it must drive you nuts (on top of everything else).
I still remember very fondly one man who was a friend of my parents. I was the oldest kid and all the others were boys, so I was always kind of a fifth wheel when our families got together. Mr. L. was the only adult who would pay any attention to me at those times and I really appreciated it.

Off topic, but my mom worked at the Vinoy Park Hotel in the 1950s. I remember when it was abandoned and in disrepair. So glad it has been restored - beautiful building.
And I love stuff like this when it's spoken by someone who means it, which I think Romney does:
Ive seen America, Romney said. Ive seen the greatness of the human spirit in my fellow Americans. Its what gives me confidence in our future, knowing we can rise to the occasion time and again. Ive seen it throughout my life.
RaisingCain, why don’t you share an episode with us about something you did to help someone else. I know for sure it didn’t happen on these forums because every post I have seen from you has been filled with some sort of hatefulness. You should be ashamed of yourself.
A day late and a dollar short. Everything that Gov. Romney has done for others is very good -- but it is not anything different from what each and every one of us do every day.
My first thought is does Obama have even one story like this? Is there a single example of him engaging in personal charity or outreach? If there is, I'm unaware of it, and I doubt it's because of modesty on his part.
Eric Taylor was the best character, male or otherwise, on television in the last 25 years. And Kyle Chandler was as spot-on perfect as any actor could be in that role.
“RaisingCain, why dont you share an episode with us about something you did to help someone else. I know for sure it didnt happen on these forums because every post I have seen from you has been filled with some sort of hatefulness. You should be ashamed of yourself.”
I can find nothing more hateful than for someone to claim a liar and known evildoer has the blessings of God.
It’s funny that you all want me to worship Romney based on these tales which no one can verify, while expecting me to ignore the evil things I have seen with my own eyes.
I guess that’s the story of the Republican party these days. Who are you going to believe, says the cheating husband in bed with another woman, me or your lying eyes?
Learn to love your enemies. If you do not then you only serve the camp of Obama. Out of the abundance of your heart, your mouth speaks.
You ever hear of the Obamaphone?
“Thank you for making my point for me. It is just the kind of self-righteous hateful crap that I was sure you would post in response to my request. You are a sick little puppy my friend.”
My response to your liberal-like emotionalism is a lengthy Mitt Romney montage. Enjoy!:

“Learn to love your enemies. If you do not then you only serve the camp of Obama. Out of the abundance of your heart, your mouth speaks.”
False premise! Both the Obama Camp and the Romney Camp are in the camp of self-delusion and man-made evil. There is no difference anymore between your average infidel Democrat and “Christian” Republican who bristles at the suggestion that Mormonism isn’t Christianity.
For some reason I think Mitt is in this for the right reasons. He doesn’t need this job - he is at the age where he can retired and comfortably so. Something tells me there are deeper reasons for his candidacy and that could be that he truly cares about this country. Maybe I’m wrong but I’m just applying common sense principles to my analysis.
Mitt is evolving. I guess its ok for the liar-in-chief to evolve on issues, but not Mitt - huh? By voting for Obama you are partaking in his evil deeds. See how easy it is to turn this back on you?
Didn't the Founding Fathers want someone "disinterested" for the office of public service, especially that of Chief Executive? If so, then Romney is the right person for the job.
And I’ll just lay odds that you worship Bill Clinton, a known rapist and adulterer. Take your hypocrisy elsewhere.
“Mitt is evolving. I guess its ok for the liar-in-chief to evolve on issues, but not Mitt - huh? By voting for Obama you are partaking in his evil deeds. See how easy it is to turn this back on you?”
I don’t know about you, but supporting TARP, Stimulus and RomneyCare on a national level, and then outright saying that he NEVER supported those things, isn’t evolution. It’s lying. The same thing can be sead for a multitude of other positions. He does not “evolve.” He is merely a historical revisionist. A liar, in other words, who is always reinventing himself. Obama is also a liar, mind you, but I shall not follow you lemmings off the cliff in blind adoration of this guy.
“And Ill just lay odds that you worship Bill Clinton, a known rapist and adulterer. Take your hypocrisy elsewhere.”
So if I don’t worship Bill Clinton, I guess that makes YOU the hypocrite? I am NOT the same as you.
The founders of our country believed in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
They fought an oppressive regime that was clamping down on them, telling them what they could or could not do, seizing their guns, taxing their meat and their bread.
The ideals we started with were what made this country great. At the time of it founding, we were basically one people, primarily British, primarily Protestant. We WERE NOT diverse and divided.
These days, politicians seem to think that what would make America strong again is giving free cell phones to people.
How low we have sunk...
RaisingCain, is doing everything you can everyday to help Obama get reelected really worth all of the turmoil that you are putting yourself through? I can tell that you are conflicted and I am sorry for you. Unfortunately, you are fighting a rising tide and you are going to feel a lot worse as election time approaches and Obama’s chances get slimmer and slimmer. What we witnessed in the debate the other night was not just a small setback... it was a turning point. Don't worry though after the election there will be time for you to heal.
Good point, and I honestly don’t think either of the Obama’s have any acts of charitableness on a personal level to share. I don’t even think the Obama’s have any real friends or family for that matter. This was glaringly obvious at the end of the debate. No one likes them, except for political purposes. Self absorbed losers.
Yup. myself and the Wife didn't pick up on this series until it hit Netflix. We watched the whole Series this Winter/Spring. We really miss it since it was canceled a year plus ago. The Female lead from FNL is in this new Nashville Series as the older Country Singer.
“To the others here... if you want to spend 40 minutes of your time watching a video attack on Mitt Romney”
You should write “all” in the “to” section if you aren’t directing this at me.
You do not care that there is demonstrable proof, from Romney’s own mouth, that he is a liar. But, instead, want me to sit down and shut up when people make the claim that Romney is a man of character, family values, and has the providence of God on his back. And then you accuse me of being self-righteous for not praising a liar etc etc etc.
Your “wave” is a wave of self-delusion and cult of personality, and the “healing” you want me to undergo is to betray my God and embrace liars and thieves as “godly” men.
I can understand the ABO argument. But selling my soul and spreading this guy’s lies for him?
Count me out.
Yeah. I miss the show. I have followed some of the cast to other shows they’ve migrated to, with mixed results. I liked The Chicago Code (Matt Lauria) but it only lasted one season. I’ll be checking out Nashville with Connie Britton next.
Here is a video I have been sharing everywhere I can. If you listen to it carefully, especially the way he counseled and helped a man definitely out of favor with the Mormon Church, you will get a peek inside Mitt’s heart. I post it with a simple caption, Spread the Word about Mitt’s Heart..
There is still lots of work to do...
PLEASE, if you been sitting on the sidelines, your country, especially your young military need you now.
