George Dalmon, a former rugby player, and his friend Andy Miles were banned from all-you-can-eat restaurant, Gobi, In Brighton, after the manager branded them "a couple of pigs".

The men would each eat five bowls of stir-fry during their regular meals at the Mongolian barbecue, which invites guests to create their own dishes from the buffet.

When 99% of the population can handle it why make rules, just kick out the 1% that are jerks. Everybody reserves the right to refuse service.

Even the lower class buffets in Vegas are pretty nice. I don’t go for the crappy food. I usually chose the carving board, and on a holiday, it is a money saver. My daughter also gets to splurge on a wide variety of deserts. If I didn’t live in Vegas, it’s unlikely I’d go to an all-you-can-eat buffet. I saw a documentary once on buffets...again, if it wasn’t Vegas with the high standards and turn over, I wouldn’t be eating at a buffet.

They should just announce that all you can eat doesn’t mean all you can eat and that all fat people will be banned and they will use a BMI scale for all customers.

“We hate you customers, give us money and leave!”

This sounds like a great business strategy

Funny you should mention that... Back in high school, around 1979, the HoJos in NY had an "all you can eat fried clams" special once a week. I remember being a regular for those, until I guess I got a "bad clam" and was barfing for 2 days!

I haven't tried fried clams since...

Why should they announce something that the vast majority of people understand as common sense? It’s simple logic to know that it’s a business that wants to make a profit and if you eat so much you threaten that profit not just for you but for the night they’re gonna kick you out?

You’re defending theft, you’re defending piggery. Did you actually bother to read the article? Here’s some quotes:
They are in such a hurry to beat everyone to the food they spoil everything.
We are supposed to be a buffet but they eat everything out of the bowls before people can get there.

These guys are ripping off the restaurant, AND worsening the dining experience for other customers. They SHOULD be kicked out. They’re jerks. With that kind of behavior even if they’re only eating 1 bowl they should be kicked out.

When I was a kid Ponderosa was delicious. They really deteriorated over the years. Finally they started just using institutional grade food. I haven't seen one in years.

For a midwest treat I recommend Sirloin Stockade. Much better quality than Golden Corral. I used to know the menu by heart as it would change each day. Thursday was sausage and peppers night. Great service, too.

Of course being in Indiana, the average person weighed about 300lbs, but they stuffed the guests with the complimentary buttered rolls, which were irresistable.

They would NEVER kick someone out for eating too much. That was their customer base.

BTW, YES, tip at an all you can eat buffet, IF you get drinks with refills, fresh plates and napkins brought to you, and the waitstaff keeps you table bused.

It's hard work keeping up with some customers.

I’d read a few of the serialized episodes in National Lampoon or elsewhere but didn’t find the book itself as rewarding. I bought it cheap though (~$2).

Ooooo, Shakey's Pizza! I remember them! My family used to go there every other week or so, and they'd have a banjo and piano player, and when they weren't there, they'd have a "player piano." They had this big window into the kitchen where you could see them make the pizzas, and that was so cool for us little kids! They had these cool, really long tables, and served soda in pitchers!

Then, years later I remember as a teenager, seeing they had a lunch buffet, and any time we had a day off of school, I'd be there. I really loved their pizza, but on their lunch buffet, they had the most incredible fried chicken and potato wedges - I remember them to this day!

I think we lost the last Shakeys Pizza in KC back in the late 1970s, or it may have been even earlier... I miss the one that used to be on Troost.

In Vegas, you get drink refills and used plates taken away. I always tip well because my server isn’t at home with their family on a holiday so it should be worth their while. I personally hand it to them, look them in the eye, and say, “Thank you,” with sincerity.

You brought up a couple of good points! Where I live there are a lot of all you can eat Indian food buffets. They all have a sign that says "Please don't waste the food".

For some more Sizzler stories, we had a lady who was bulemic come into the restaurant. She'd pig out, throw up, then come back for more. It took a while to catch her since she wore a different wig each time, but we noticed she always sat right by the bathroom. One of the waitresses caught her doing her thing in one of the stalls. We politely asked her to not come back.

We also had a family who let the kidddies go to the salad bar, take a bowl of croutons or M&Ms from the sundae bar and come back to the table where they would throw everything on the floor like confetti. We also asked them politely to leave.

Something about all you can eat buffets that brings out the worst in people. One guy took the whole uncut pineapple used as a prop to hold up the fresh fruit section. Of course it ruined it for everyone else.

That seems to be the name of the game. "A$$wipes who ruin it for everyone else".

My restaurant went out of business about 2 years after I left. What a surprise.

What’s to understand?

Tipping is an optional thing that you don’t have to do if you don’t want to do it. They don’t pay taxes on their tips. The bosses have somehow made it legal to pay people less than minimum wage if they might get a tip. They think tipping is mandatory but it isn’t. You don’t have to do it.

Eat at Golden Corral all over the country. They are quite variable.

One of the best buffets I ever ate at was a GC in eastern KY somewhere. Very good food.

Do NOT go to a GC in Orlando. Atrocious.

Exactly. They don't pay their fair share. Like the millionaires and billionaires. More taxes, please, I say!
