Turkey returned fire after Syrian mortar bombs landed in a field in southern Turkey on Saturday, the day after Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan warned Syria that Turkey would not shy away from war if provoked.

It was the fourth day of Turkish retaliation for firing by Syrian forces that killed five Turkish civilians on Wednesday.

Turkey has nearly 100,000 Syrian refugees in camps on its territory, has allowed rebel leaders sanctuary and has led calls for Assad to quit. Its armed forces are far larger than Syria's.

The US should’a wasted the Syrian military infrastructure on the way into Iraq. Maybe Turkey and Iran will do it yet.

Pretty open plain I think. If I recall our troops made excursions into Syria during the Iraqi war. We could probably enforce a no fly buffer zone with turkey pretty easily.

Screw that. Turkey did not allow our military planes use of their airspace during the Iraq war. Why should we help them?

Iran is supporting Syria. We can’t even enforce a no-fly zone in Iraq. How do you think Iran is sending men and supplies to Syria? They’re overflying Iraq.

That is right. As far as I'm concerned let the two kill each other.

Turkey is a member of NATO (the why of that escapes me). That’s all the pretext that’s required.

I wouldn’t be surprised if trying to bring Turkey into the Syrian conflict as a surrogate for the US isn’t the real plan by Slick Willy’s other evil half. Have the rebels or US agents shoot a few “Mortars” over the border and blame the Syrian army .... not artillery shells or tank rounds or airplane bombs, just unidentifiable mortars.

No, because then a Muslim-brotherhood-affiliated government would have taken over. The current Syrian conflict has the Iranian-supported government against al-Queda-backed rebels.

It is to the US's advantage that they kill each other, undisturbed by us.

Wasn't it because of the US base at Incirlik that helped defeat the Soviet Union in the Cold war? Turkey has been a great ally it is just the recent election of Erdogan and Turkey's slide towards religion instead of secular leaders like Ataturk that has created the problem. But it seems like Turkey is helping the West topple Assad so they are still helping out.

My belief is that before any attack on Iran commences Syria has to be disabled to prevent damage to Israel. But that is pure conspiracy theory and conjecture at this point.

I’ve been thinking the same thing.
Someone is trying to start a huge conflagration in the middle east.
And someone gave drones to Hamas.

OK. So first, let's figure out why his imperial majesty Comrade El Presidente Caliph Sheik Obama the First needs to get involved in Syria. As a favor to Israel to retain the Jewish Liberal Democrats and their contributions? Maybe. After all, for some strange reason, they hate Israel as much as he does. How about nothing says victory in an election like bombing the holy crap out of empty buildings in the middle of the night or aspirin factories to take the heat off any type domestic affair, like, being humiliated on national TV, or suggesting to the UN that the United States freedom of speech needs to be restricted and promoting one religion over another (which in your pea brain, in no way violates freedom of religion or maybe trying to cover up your complicity in the death of an American ambassador and CIA agents tasked with recovering weapons you gave to terrorists without realizing they were the sworn enemies of the Unites States. So now we have an idea of many possible whys.
So now how can you do this unilaterally without having to get Congressional approval (like that ever mattered) and not be thought of as a warmonger and hoping no one realizes your administration is responsible for 70% of all American troop deaths in Afghanistan. Easy peasy. You go to the “rescue” of your wronged NATO ally (who hates your guts and keeps your gonads pinched hard enough so you can only move as much as they want you to). Of course since the adoring Ministry of Information is giving you political cover, every second of every day, you really don't care what your opponent and his supporters think. You have the stupid vote all wrapped up with Food Stamps, Obamaphone and other assorted vote buying schemes.
Basically, Obamalamadingdong will do whatever the heck he wants as long as he gets reelected to continue the destruction of a nation. Your absentee Daddy said to do it. Your bohemian mother would approve. Your grandparents would be so proud. Your mentor, a known Communist subversive, would nod with approval as well as all the radical America hating friends and professors you gave surrounded yourself with and embedded into the government. And lastly, just imagine how richly you will be rewarded by your new best buddies, The Muslim Brotherhood. Go for it Barry. No guts, no glory.
