......security cameras caught them returning the next night and taking another 300 gallons of gas, some of it going to a tank in the truck's bed.

He said they came back again during store hours and siphoned 300 more gallons, but a cashier recognized the suspicious vehicle and took down its license plate.

Sandhu estimates the stolen gas was worth $4500.

The price of gasoline hit an all-time average high in California of $4.61 a gallon Saturday.

That’s one observant cashier...good for him / her. Most of them usually asleep at the register.

Romney says he will double drilling permit approvals eh - well how about he just open it up and approve ALL permits? the current approval rate is around 35% - so a doubling is only around 70% - big whoopty doo - approve them all, get EPA out of the way and let us work

Thats what I don’t like about these doublespeak politicians

You appear to be “flyspecking” Romney’s remarks.

Way too many people do not understand how siphoning works. I believe that is unlikely that thieves could ‘siphon’ gasoline from an underground storage tank in to a tank in their truck bed.

You are of course correct. They had to have pumped it out.

Don't worry, the EPA has already approved permits of testing people by gasing them in testing them with diesel fumes.

EPA Auschwitz permits.

I’m glad you posted that. I’m wondering how you siphon something in the liquid form from 8’ under your feet. I worked in gas stations years ago and there was specially ‘keyed’ wrench to open the tanks with. Is this just bad reporting or WTH did they do to get this gas into the truck? Maybe it’s something they came up with(computer?) to get the gas without the meter registering it?

Among new details, Romney promised to double the number of drilling permits approved on federal lands, to open Alaska to more oil exploration and to “build that pipeline from Canada if I have to do it myself.”... ...And I wish he would have mandated 20, no, 30,no, 40 new refineries. What a comeback in employment that would mean!

Well that’s one way of creating a “pipeline” in a NIMBY state.

$10/gal gas won’t swing Ca to Repubs.
Sadly, Ca is a lost cause.
Plenty of good conservative people there, but man they are just outnumbered by the rabid leftists.

I can’t imagine that just everybody buys 300 gallon tanks, either.

You see hundreds of them driving around in the suburbs every day carrying fertilizer and weed killer for lawns. The low-profile is 300 gal and the other is 400.

Also, the license plates might have been stolen. If you are going to steal $4500 this way and get away with it, you have to think smart.

The correct word would have been pumped, but that still begs the question........

How was the meter disabled?

I think more money could be made selling that secret. the theft of small 20 gallon increments would go unnoticed at the time.

I will admit that there are rabid leftist in California, but that is not how you lose California. It is when the middle of the road people have become dependent on government benes, and are scared to venture out into the world on their own.

Government benes = political slave class.

I wonder how long someone could store that much gas. Since its contaminated with Ethanol, they’ll have to move it, because it can go bad just sitting there in a tank.

They could probably move that stuff in as long as it takes to pump it all into vehicles if they sold it for $2.50-$3.00 per gallon(without blowing themselves up).
