Skip to comments.Devastating Ad: The Real Jobs Report
Posted on 10/07/2012 4:47:03 AM PDT by BarnacleCenturion
The ad is titled Dinner Table and features a recently unemployed father trying to eat dinner with his worried wife and two kids. The only sounds that can be heard are the tinkling of utensils as the family unnervingly pokes at their food. It is a scene that has been played in real life in millions of homes across America during the Great Recession and the so-called recovery.
After 23 seconds, the ad, which was created, written, and directed by Jon Kahn, then fades to a black-and-white question on the screen: 12.1 million Americans unemployed. Isnt it time to try something different?"

Romney may be taking a page from Reagan here. In the midst of economic misery, one has to inspire hope in the hopeless. Reagan did that better than any candidate of my lifetime. Let’s see if Romney can do it.
Wow, that may just be the Republican version of the daisy ad.
Hits you right in the gut because most of us have been there at one time in our lives.
The only sounds are the clinking of the utensils and I’m hearing pouring rain outside - does anyone else hear the rain?
No kidding. That is the ad which must be played in as many states as possible.
It’s not even an ad. It’s real.
Hopefully this will run on national prime time...
The silence will grap people’s attention since the idiot box is squawking non stop ....all the time...
They will look to see why they tv is acting funny .... Silence
I like the ad. It shows the human face of unemployment. The Dad’s eyes look so sad... just despair. To illustrate how the unemployment rates affect families is a good thing. It takes away a cold percentage or number and makes it more “real” to the viewer. What popped into my mind is the same “dinner” is being played out by countless of other families across the U.S.
Russell [AFP Spokesmamn] said the person who saw the ad told him, "the first time I saw it I felt uncomfortable. The second time I felt sick. The third I wanted to cry."
Feeling uncomfortable was my reaction too. This ad feels real. The people look real. There is a "but for the grace of God, that could be me" aspect of the ad. As someone who was laid off (but fortunately quickly found another job) this summer, it brought back the shame I felt then.
This add needs to be played on every TV set. AFP should buy time on MSNBC for this ad.
It’s a white family, that’s totally racist! Although, I guess showing a black unemployed family would have been even more racist.
Same thing. I didn't hear the rain the first time, but I did the second. Powerful, powerful subliminal effect.
This is simply the best political ad in decades.
A gritty gut wrenching indictment of Obambi policies in 2 mins and 39 seconds
I don’t think there’s any meat on their plates.
You mean a page from Chicago Alderman Ed Vyrdolyak. Fast Eddie had a similar ad he ran against black Mayor Harold Washington. It didn’t work, but Fast Eddie was running as a Republican in a Dem town with a very large black population.
These are the kind of bread and butter issues they should be doing in commercials... not Pelosi muting her phone on Barry. They should do others for gas prices and food costs at the grocery store.
No, there are chicken breasts on the plates. The little girls chicken has been cut up (by mom, no doubt). Everyone elses is sitting there whole.
The subtle detail in this ad is incredible, just incredible.
The food is nice and fresh, no doubt bought before the news of the father being laid off. The next meal is the one in question. The family is warm and dry, still in their house, last month's mortgage bill no doubt paid. Next month's will be a challenge.
This ad must be put on every station. Every liberal Obamatard will feel personal shame watching this ad. The truth to liberals is like throwing a pail of water on the Wicked Witch of the West.
Powerful ad. I’ve been there as many people had and the feeling is hopeless. By only the grace of my Lord I was able to find a job.
Obama administration relishes white union type people in the unemployment line. In their twisted little minds, whites had it coming because whites have always been “preferred” because of their whiteness. All the schools, and corporations have supposedly been structured to prefer whites.
The truth of the matter is, the schools and corporations were structured based on Judeo-Christian, Greco-Roman principles (WHICH BY THE WAY ARE SUPERIOR TO ANY OTHERS WORLDWIDE) and don’t favor the depraved and the twisted.
To which the depraved and the twisted protest “You can’t tell me what to do.”
