Expectations run high for Biden-Ryan debate
Washington Post ^ | October 6, 2012 | Felicia Sonmez

Vice President Biden, a man with nearly four decades of experience in politics, has not been taking lightly his preparations for his debate against Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), holding practice sessions and perusing briefing books in recent months.

Now, in the wake of President Obama’s widely panned performance last week in his first debate against Mitt Romney, the stakes for Biden are suddenly higher than ever. In the Oct. 11 vice-presidential debate he must not only avoid making any gaffes but also try to puncture his Republican opponent’s arguments on taxes, entitlement reform and deficit reduction, something Obama was criticized for failing to do last week.

One point on which both sides appear to agree is that Biden is likely to be more aggressive in his face-off against Ryan than Obama was debating Romney.

Speaking with reporters last Thursday before a Cedar Rapids, Iowa, rally at which he sharply criticized both Romney and Ryan, Biden previewed the debate by noting that he’s been “studying up on Congressman Ryan’s positions on the issues.”

“I just want to make sure that when I say these things, I don’t have the congressman — ‘No no no, I don’t have that position,’ or, ‘That’s not the governor’s position,’ ” Biden said. “So, it’s mainly getting the factual predicates for everything that — not everything, but the key issues on which Governor Romney has spoken and Congressman Ryan has.”

Ryan, for his part, said that he believes Biden will be an aggressive opponent. “I expect the vice president to come at me like a cannonball,” Ryan told the conservative Weekly Standard Thursday night. “He’ll be in full attack mode, and I don’t think he’ll let any inconvenient facts get in his way.”

I was just looking for photos to show off the Joe I've known since Cspan began. Google has carefully chosen his pics. All of them, even the quirky ones, have full head of hair. For years and years his hair was like his brain. And there are no pics that come close to depicting his condescending arrogance that comes from a wrongfully crowned retard that drives people to brain aneurysms. What's up with that?

Watch Biden-Palin-2008 again. Bumbling Joe didn't make any major mistakes, didn't lose his cool, and stayed on the Dem talking points. My guess is that he will do that again, and the Left will LOVE his performance, and it'll be far easier for the media to spin as a close match than Obama's debacle was. Sure, WE are likely to crow about a major victory for Ryan, but it won't change many undecided voters without the MSM or nightly comedians backing that up.

The biggest mistake that Biden could make would be to answer Ryan's challenges directly... and if anyone can bury their head and stay on talking points as if there's nothing else to bother mentioning, it's Bumbling Joe.

(But, if he strays off-message, or engages in direct answers to Ryan, then his chances for a major gaffe rise exponentially.)

So they want Biden to come off as the smart one on the ticket. I’m sure that will help Obama with the undecideds.

All Ryan has to do is stay calm and smile as he repeats a couple Bidenisms and slow Joe fly into a rage.

By the time the debate is over nobody watching would trust maniac Joe around the red button.

The VP debate could go for each man—it will be Good Theater! Paul better be ready—Joe isn’t a push over. Be ready for well crafted Zingers from the Democrat. I could see Joe winning this one—The Media will be in his corner.

The Biden-Palin debate was a draw if I recall. I was not overwhelmed by either side of the debate. People keep saying bin Biden is going to be a pushover. I think that’s a very dangerous attitude. Ask governor Palin.

Hopefully Ryan is practicing like that. His fake opponent should be throwing lies at him repeatedly, so that he can quickly get to a “there you go again, tossing out les we can’t disprove at this setting” and then staying on offense.

As long as Ryan never takes the bait, he can win or tie. Never defend yourself. Just throw a true fact about the admin back at Biden. It will look like a game of the elevenses, but its better than defending each one of biden’s lies.

“Your running mate wants to lower taxes only on the rich”

“Well, your running mate wants to slow the economy even further...”

“Your running mate wears ballet slippers!”

“Well, your running mate taught my running mate how!”

I expect it to be Joe Biden using his “skills” to talk around an issue and filibuster while Ryan tries to explain things and offer honest answers.

He will too. Biden’s m.o. is throw it at the wall till something sticks. Ryan needs to back him in the corner and contradict him with something real world, something that Biden can’t squirm out of.

Fortunately Ryan is smart enough to do just that. He’s also been in Congress for 12 years, so he’s not exactly a greenhorn.

Biden has already been proclaimed the debate winner. People in DE wouldn’t have it any other way. Ryan won’t know what struck him.

“(Biden will) be in full attack mode, and I don’t think he’ll let any inconvenient facts get in his way.”

Biden lied during the entire debate will Palin. I'm sure he'll do the same with Ryan. Let's hope that Ryan calls him out on it.

Absolutely! Do NOT be over confident.

ASAIK, Biden has been acting the dunce just to set his opponent up for the debate.

I’ve often thought that a lot of Biden’s actions are planned to disarm our side..............make us think he’s a goof-off.

Surely no one is that dumb and still in the world spotlight as holding the second highest office in the USA. Something just doesn’t add up.

Palin hammered Biden. Biden didn't know the constitutional sections on The VP, Palin did! Biden didn't know the constitutional duties of VP, Palin did! Plugs talked about eating at a restaurant that had closed 10years before the debate! Ryan will win but sill Biden and the PRESS hurt the ticket?

Ryan needs to pick up on the theme that Romney started...

Mr. Vice President, It is IMMORAL to burden our children and grandchildren with YOUR CRUSHING debt.

Let me ask you this Joe, would you feel good, if on your dying day, with your loving family standing by...you announce to them...Family, I have no inheritance for you. In fact after I am gone I will ask all of you to pay off my debts.

I know my children will not be able to retire and I know my grandchildren will not afford college. But please remember family, I ran up this enormous debt with good intentions. I was trying to help people. Unfortunately I was trying to help them with your money.

Now Joe, isn't this exactly what you and President Obama are doing to the American family.

Biden IS dumb. And expectations for him are so low that if he doesn’t get lost walking across the stage, the libs will consider it a win.

Ryan needs to ask biden why the administration is at war with the American people:
-law suit against Arizona
-border patrol agents being undermined and shot
-ambassadors being murdered and left unprotected
-coal industry being persecuted
-military being handcuffed with bad ROE
-largest single aircraft loss since ww2 (8 multi-million dollar aircraft lost)
-persecuting doctors owned hospitals
-killing jobs in the medical device business
I could go on....

U love S Palin, but she doen’t have the command of the details of the Federal government the way Ryan does. If Drunk Joey tries to fabricate Ryan will drill him with the real data.
