Biden Takes 6 Days Off Campaign Trail
The Weekly Standard ^ | 10/7/12 | DANIEL HALPER

With just about a month until Election Day, Vice President Joe Biden is in the middle of taking nearly a week off the campaign trail. He will return to doing campaign events on Thursday, when he will debate Rep. Paul Ryan in the vice presidential debate.

On Friday, October 5, according to the White House, Biden spent the day working. In the morning, he was scheduled to attend the presidential daily briefing in the Oval Office, with President Obama. That afternoon Biden was to "meet with senior advisors," according to the White House.

For this weekend, the White House provided the following guidance: "The Vice President will be in Wilmington, Delaware. There are no public events scheduled."

As for the next three days, Biden will remain in Delaware. "On Monday through Wednesday, the Vice President will be in Wilmington, Delaware. There are no public events scheduled."

Meanwhile, Thursday, October 11, is a big day for Biden. "On Thursday, the Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden will travel to Danville, Kentucky. In the evening, the Vice President will participate in the Vice Presidential Debate at Centre College. Dr. Biden will also attend. This event is open to pre-credentialed media."

So while Biden is taking 6 days off the campaign trail at a crucial time in the presidential campaign, it's likely that he isn't completely off. He is said to be spending time with David Axelrod and other campaign advisers preparing for Thursday's debate.

There will be such a thing as the tone of the debate. Biden wants to launch into Paul Ryan with gang busters. He will appear so extreme and over-the-top that he will turn America off. They will be voting for Romney for fear that this mad man has any opportunity to take the Presidency.

IMHO.....Biden is going to make mince meat of Ryan. Experience, Experience, Experience

That's actually funny given the circumstances.

We have a sitting President (it is widely reported) that didn't take enough time to prepare for the debate, and now a Vice President who is taking six days to prepare for his debate.

My questions are why do they have to prepare at all? Do they not know their own positions? Do they not understand their own current economic and international policies?

The only conclusion I can come up with is they both need time to prepare deceitful lies about their opponents and lies about their own records.

Yes, but what kind of Experience, Experience, Experience? The guy's a class-A buffoon. Plus his and Obama's policies, foreign and domestic, have been disastrous! (for America anyway).

IDK what debating experience Biden has. Sarah Palin did fine against him in 08.

The questions in the debate will be about the Catholic Church’s stance on birth control, the 47% remark, how Ryan wants to kill medicare, how happy we should be now that the economy has recovered, and how Romney lied in the first debate.

Biden will share his experiences with his dead wife and injured kids, some poor woman he knows who can’t afford the Pill, a guy who lost his job and can’t afford medical care for his 3-year-old girl who has cancer, and his elderly aunt who has to eat cat food because Paul Ryan stole her Medicare.

They need to coordinate with the moderators--get on the same page.

I don’t think he’ll make mincemeat of Ryan, but anyone who thinks it’ll be a replay of Obamugabe’s disastrous performance is in for a disappointment. Biden’s an idiot but he generally holds his own in a debate, and he has a viscious sarcasm that the moderator is sure to let him put to use often.

From the White House website:

>>>>Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, is a mother and grandmother, a lifelong educator, a proud Blue Star mom, and an active member of her community. As Second Lady, Dr. Biden works to bring attention to the sacrifices made by military families, to highlight the importance of community colleges to America’s future, and to raise awareness around areas of particular importance to women, including breast cancer prevention, all while continuing to teach English full-time at a community college in nearby Virginia.<<<<

Until recently, I thought her expertise was medicine, but it's education.

“IMHO.....Biden is going to make mince meat of Ryan.
Experience, Experience, Experience’

You forget that one of the debaters is not fully functional. And that the other debater is very bright, in control of facts; and physically very fit.

But, I am also worried about expectations right now. I don't want the morning after headline to say that “Biden held his own in the debate” and Ryan underperformed.

Biden has been around a long time, he probably knows a trick or two.

Ryan should be downplaying expectations right now. Just like a good football coach does before a big game.

-——Experience, Experience, Experience’-——

The sign over my desk says “Age and treachery overcome youth and skill”

Biden is a paradox. While old and experienced he lacks discipline. The question is....... which trait will prevail?

Will he toe the talking points line or will he fly off to fantasy land?

I have my expectations very high. But then realize that's always a dangerous place to be.

Biden is an idiot; but he's also the Vice President of the United States.
He can't be a total fool to have gotten there. The good thing is that Ryan is bright enough to know the same thing. No way will Ryan underestimate his opponent.
