Mitt Romney is worth $250 million. Why so little? (Mega Barf Alert)
Washington Post ^ | 10/05/2012 | William D. Cohan

Does it really matter if Romney is worth $250 million, $1 billion or more? Rich is rich after all, right? I think it does, politically as well as substantively.

Politically, the alternatives are not great. If he were perceived as the first real billionaire to run for president, it would only exacerbate popular doubts about how someone living so removed from the concerns of average Americans — or even just 47 percent of them — could effectively represent them.

And if he is not a billionaire, doesn’t it suggest that he was not a great private-equity investor after all, thus torpedoing his claim to understand how to create jobs and get the economy back on track?

I think we should all rise from our seats and applaud the Washington Post for this.

There is hackery, there is partisanship, and then there is... this.

This is resplendent.

Congratulations, Washington Post.

You are now officially beyond mockery. ACE of Spades

I’m pretty sure I saw this same article when Kerry was running.

Ridicule. Marginalize. Isolate.

Why do these people hate America and its Constitution so much? Why do they want to turn the US into just another 3d world hellhole?

The assumption is that how "removed" you are is measured solely in economic terms.

My net worth is 0.1% of Romney's $250M. I don't know about Barry-O's worth, but let's assume it's less than that. Am I supposed to feel closer to (less removed from) Barry-O?

Sorry. "Removed" is in attitude, more than dollars.

Maybe because he give about a quarter of his pre-tax income to charity?

The Clintons are worth $250 million that we know of, and somehow they amassed that fortune in public service.

How come the Washington Post haven't asked about how Senator Harry Reid became a multimillionaire or the net worth of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, whose husband is worth a LOT of money with prime real estate holdings in California's Wine Country....

Bain Capital’s investment record is well-known and widely admired. This writer is an ignorant putz.

He can't be. We already have the first real billionaire not only to run, but to be president.

The co-presidency team of 0bama/Soros is worth on the surface 6 or 7 Billion; probably alot more, considering their further reaches...

I think in today’s dollars Washington was our wealthiest president. Multiple land holdings and agriculture income.

JFK is estimated nearly 1 billion due to his share of the Kennedy estate and his wife’s family’s oil holdings.

Obama’s family oil company trusts from mom and grandmother very likely exceed Romney personal wealth.

The running tally starts at $11,057,249.

I don't really care.

The fact that that number is closer to me than Romney's number means absolutely nothing.

Barry-O is much farther away.

Do you have a link to help me with this?

Weird thing. I punch in “Obama family oil company trusts” and it comes up “Romney family oil company trusts” over and over again. I click over to Yahoo and they do the same thing. Can’t get the search engine to even search that term. That by itself is hinky.

doesn’t it suggest that he was not a great private-equity investor after all

Or could it be that money is not his god? He gives million each year to charity. Four years as governor, he took no salary - or was a dollar per year?

He served 5 years as Bishop in the church - no salary (Mormon leaders do not take salaries - they make their own living and give their time and service free.

Three years working to save our Olympics - he took no salary. He is not ruled by money.

Someone asked me if Romney could be bribed. His life's record would indicate not. The left and it's press don't understand the honest man, it's such a rarity.

Unlike an unnamed Dem Senator, he made his money the old fashioned way, he earned it. Unfortunately for him he did not have the good fortune to marry his cash stash.
