Sam Donaldson: 'If Obama Comes to the Next Two Debates With the Same Demeanor He's Losing'

Sam Donaldson had some harsh words this weekend for President Obama's performance at Wednesday's debate.

Appearing on the syndicated Chris Matthews Show, the former ABC White House correspondent said, "If he comes to the next two debates with the same demeanor, with the same passive resistance, he’s losing" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Sam Donaldson: 'If Obama Comes to the Next Two Debates With the Same Demeanor He's Losing'

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Sam, huge impact of that debate Wednesday night?

SAM DONALDSON: Big. Think John Kennedy in 1960, think Ronald Reagan in 1980. It's possibly that big because the president seemed to be on a glide path toward re-election, and all of a sudden here comes the raging bull, Mitt Romney, out of the dock, and the toreador runs for the safety exits instead of counterpunching, instead of getting him hard. What happened to Barack Obama? I'm not certain. I don't know. But I know this: if he comes to the next two debates with the same demeanor, with the same passive resistance, he’s losing.

MATTHEWS: Wow!

Wow indeed.

You know his posture just appears really weak. Even the position of his feet signal weakness.

Looks like his feet are directionally challenged.

Send him back to Haaaaarvard for "walking 101"

The second Presidential debate is a townhall format covering domestic and foreign policy issues. The third is all foreign policy.

He could be our “first recovering addict”, and lead the world in morning chooms on the beach...

Cut to Michelle for an arugula wrap for lunch, then back to sleep.

What’s happening in the picture—Mitt has gone back to the podium to sign and date his debate notes. He’s a businessman and knows the importance of recording important papers. These notes will go into the Romney Presidential Library.

Meanwhile Michelle and Obama are looking at the beautiful Romney family. Michelle practically has daggers in her eyes.

“The posture of these two is interesting to me. He (Michelle) appears to be seething, and she (Barry) appears to be in auto-babble mode.”

I don’t go in for racial sounding sayings, but someone else here on FR got it right when they wrote (or words to this effect), “I aitn’t seen a black man take such a beating since Kunta Kinte in Roots.”

I look at Michele’s body language and it seems to say to me, “that Honky Cracker jus took mah free vacations away.” President Obama looks like a maniken. I know the picture is just an optical illusion, but it is priceless...especially the way Romney appears to be giggling. I doubt that was the best “anniversary” the Obamas have experienced. The “chosen one” got his head handed to him, and was shown publically to be an empty suit. It was trully priceless....and folks I cannot stand Romney being the GOP candidate and I still enjoyed it.

I’m not going to vote for Romney because I know he will turn on conservatives (and the Mormon thing is significant to me)....but I am still rooting for him to destroy Obama.

If Mr. Romney keeps his head and does this again....then Obama is toast....even with phoney employment data. Romney won’t need my vote to beat Obama.

“Romney won’t need my vote to beat Obama.”

You are foolish...and I believe Romney will win, with or without your vote, but I have no respect for you if not voting for Romney is your stance.

Sola Veritas, just push the button for him. It doesn’t really matter in the big picture if he turns on conservatives.

What matters is he won’t turn on America.

Yes, he is more liberal than we would like.

Obama must go, he must go, he must go, he must go.

The most powerful line in the debate?

“ROMNEY: But you’ve been — but you’ve been president four years...”

If Obama does not want to win, I will agree with you.

I was struck by his seeming indifference to the debate that evening. I see it as one of two things:

1. He knows that there will be no election come Nov 6(All that ammunition was not purchased for nothing).

or

2. The fix is already in. Obama has a computer czar who could have spent the last 4 years figuring out how to have the computer tally more votes for Obama than his challenger regardless of the actual vote count.

Thank God for reynolds wrap.

Thank you...and it is not really about debate performance, it is about the health of this country...Obama hates this country...he must be gone!

Anyway, my theory seemed even more plausible (to me) after the first debate.

I have that same theory. It could be that being President is way too much work for Obama. Also, if you noticed that during the debate, Obama promised Michelle that next anniversary would not be in front of 40 million people. Hopefully a reference to the private life.

On the main subject of the thread, I don't know what they meant by "demeanor". This IS Obama. Do they want him to go MSNBCnam Style? We would love that. I think the difference in this debate was that Romney was not deferential to Obama like McCain was. McCain fell all over himself praising Obama during his campaign. Obama is used to being able to say whatever he wants and just being in a place where everyone instantly believes and agrees with it. Plus Romney threw Obama off right out if the gate with his homoerotic declaration of Obama being in the "most romantic place...here with me." He was hot and bothered from that point forward.

Yes, I know and saw Mitt go back to his podium, but I never saw Zero and wife come back on. I thought they scurried out just as soon as all the greeting of the families was finished.

Great picture of the character of the Obama's.

People hear on the news about the "drop in unemployment" and look to the right of them and see an unemployed neighbor, to the left of them and see another, in front of them and see food stamps, and there's a reality check.

Kerry/Edwards lost in 2004 and the outcry on the left was that the "Republican-controlled computerized voting" was the culprit. You believe the Dems will come up with a real version of electronic cheating?

People go to the polls and vote for R&R, they compare notes with as many in their network and neighborhood as they can, and see... the MSM news announcing BO as the winner in spite of what actually happened at the polling places. There's another reality check. It won't be a nice one.

[ Does Romney have what it takes to be President? ]

Well the people of Massachusetts liked him..
and one of his good friends was the “swimmer”...
You know... Jabba the Kennedy..

The fact he went over so well in MASS. tattoos him with ten foot pole marks..
THEN you got yer ringers George Bush put into the Supreme Court..

It don’t look good.. the republicans REJECTED ALL conservative candidates.. All of them..
Looks like the republican elite commandeered the party..
Wonder if Rove can get Romney to take a “DIVE” like Juan McLaim did?..

Could be and probably is already a done deal..
Smoky back room conniving.. Bush got two terms, so will Obama.. by hook or crook..

A bigger mystery than Obama getting a second term is HOW did Romney survive the primary’s.?..
They could be connected.. America is getting seriously Sodomized..

It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything. ~ Joseph Stalin

“I think that it is possible that OB does not want to win.”

That is possible, though I doubt it. I do believe that 4 years ago Juan McLame did not want to win. Why...I do not know that. McLame was a shit then and is still a shit. He is the reason we have had to put up with the evil, un-American, Communista’s we call the Obama’s, or the Sortelo’s, or the Evil Usurpers...
