This year's Nobel prize season kicks off Monday with rumours suggesting the peace prize could go to Egypt's Maggie Gobran for helping Cairo's poor, Afghan burka opponent Sima Samar or US scholar Gene Sharp.

The first Nobel to be announced this year will be the medicine prize on Monday, when the jury in Stockholm reveals the winner or winners around 11:30 am (0930 GMT.)

Like every year, most of the speculation in the run-up to the announcements focuses on who will take home the prestigious peace and literature prizes.

Betting sites have become a popular feature of the guessing game in recent years, with gamers sometimes curiously accurate amid suspicions of leaks from within the award committees.

Mitt Romney should get one, being that he just recently outperformed a Nobel Prize winner last week.

The Peace Prize is really the WAR PRIZE!!!!!

The people who have received it have created more war and terrorisim either directly or indirectly.

The “Peace Prize” has no credibility!!!

The larger question is ‘which raging leftist who actually endangers peace by his or her policies will win the prize which should go to a conservative whose policies help keep it?’

It became obvious several years ago that the Nobel peach prize is determined by some totally corrupt process.

Carter, Arafat, Gore, Food Stamp President, etc....suggests that the Nobel peace prize isn’t worth much more than a bucket of warm spit!

What about Obama? Was he nominated???

I'm sure his supporters will demand that he get another "Noble" [sic] Peace Prize - if only for all the Obamaphones he's giving away...

I’m pretty sure I’m up for a Nobel Prize in literature for my series in THE ATLANTIC about deer peeing in the woods. There’s some MFA up for his book IT’S ALL ABOUT ME BECAUSE I’M THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE AND I’M THE ONLY PERSON EVER TO FEEL THIS WAY AND THE REST OF YOU ARE CRAP ANYWAY.

They should just give it to Ubama again - - who cares? The whole thing is such a pathetic laughingstock anyway. Give it to Ubama because, well ...because he will bring total lasting peace to the Middle East, once and for all. They just know he will. That works.
