Obama: Green energy not ‘socialist plot’ By Ben Geman - 10/08/12 09:59 AM ET

President Obama quipped Sunday night that energy efficiency initiatives are not a “socialist plot” in remarks that contrasted his energy policies with rival Mitt Romney’s.

The president, fundraising in Los Angeles, addressed energy during a $25,000-per-plate dinner with backers that included actor George Clooney.

“On energy, I’m big on oil and gas, and developing clean coal technology, but I also believe that if we’re ever going to have control of our energy future, then we’ve got to invest in solar and wind and biofuels, and that it does make sense for us to double our fuel-efficiency standards on cars,” Obama said, according to a White House transcript.

“And that's not a socialist plot for us to reduce our energy usage,” Obama said to laughter, according to the transcript. “It’s the smart thing to do. It’s right for our national energy. It’s right for our economy. It’s right for the environment. [Romney] disagrees.”

Obama didn’t get specific about Romney's alleged disagreement.

But the GOP nominee in late August bashed new auto mileage rules for model years 2017-2025 that will ultimately require automakers to build cars and light trucks with a fleet-wide average of 54.5 miles-per-gallon.

Romney, through a spokeswoman, called the standards “extreme,” and said they will “limit the choices available to American families.”

The Romney campaign also emphasized the higher up-front costs of the vehicles, while the Obama administration touted savings in fuel costs over time and reduced oil consumption. (Click here for much more on the rules.)

While energy efficiency programs often have bipartisan support, various federal standards have drawn pushback from some Republicans who call them undue federal intrusion into consumer choices.

House Republicans, over the last two years, have sought to roll back lightbulb efficiency standards contained in a bipartisan 2007 energy law.

Solar Trust of America: FAIL! - Filed Bankruptcy in Oakland, CA, April 3, 2012

Bright Source: FAIL! - Bright Source warned Obama’s Energy Department officials in March 2011 that delays in approving a $1.6 billion U.S. loan guarantee would embarrass the White House and force the solar-energy company to close. Bright Source lost billions of dollars but is getting more money to keep trying. Can you say, “This isn’t working Mr. President?”

Solyndra: FAIL! - Obama gave $500,000,000 (that’s a HALF BILLION!) in taxpayer money to Solyndra who shut its doors and laid off 1100 workers in August 2011 after billions in losses due to failure to make a solar product that works! Barack Obama was not vetted before being elected President and neither was Solyndra before Mr. Obama threw that taxpayer money down the drain of unproven technology.

LSP Energy: FAIL! - LSPEnergy LP filed bankruptcy protection and a sale of its assets in Feb 2012

Energy Conversion Devices: FAIL! – On February 14, 2012 Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. and its subsidiaries filed for bankruptcy

Abound Solar: FAIL! - Abound Solar received a $400 million loan guarantee from Barack Obama then announced in June, 2012 that it would file for bankruptcy. Many of these failed corporations, such as Abound, donated MILLIONS and continue to donate to Barack Obama’s campaign. Can you say, “Democrat Slush Fund”? Yes this is illegal. But Democrats are being protected from being prosecuted, for now.

SunPower: FAIL! - SunPower stopped producing solar cells in 2011 at near bankruptcy then restructured with the help of, get this, oil giant TOTAL, Inc. who owns 60% stake in SunPower. Irony? The company is still struggling.

Beacon Power: FAIL! – Beacon Power Corp filed for bankruptcy protection in October, 2011 just a year after Obama approved a $43 million Government loan guarantee. They remain barely in business, still struggling to make energy that makes sense or that works at all.

Ecotality: FAIL! - ECOtality, a San Francisco green-tech company that never earned any money and remains on the verge of bankruptcy after receiving roughly $115 million in two loan guarantees from President Obama, who wants to do some more of this kind of Democrat Slush Fund Guarantees after he is elected to a 2nd term.

A123 Solar: FAIL! - A123 Solar received $279 million from taxpayers thanks to President Obama’s Department of Energy loan guarantees even after the Solyndra bankruptcy and is getting another $500M from Obama after a loss of $400M.

UniSolar: FAIL! - Uni-Solar filed for Ch 11 bankruptcy in June 20, 2012 after laying off hundreds of workers. UniSolar received even more Obama money after showing now progress, no profits and is still failing… yet they still remain in business with Obama’s help.

Azure Dynamics: FAIL! - Azure Dynamics filed for bankruptcy in June , 2012 wasting millions in Obama “Stimulus” money and received abatement on taxes owed and and several tax credits. Azure Dynamics LLC filed for bankruptcy protection in Canada and the US. Azure laid off 120 of its 160 employees in Oak Park; Boston; Vancouver, British Columbia; and the UK.

Evergreen Solar: FAIL! - Evergreen Solar received $527 Million in Taxpayer money from Obama and filed bankruptcy in late 2011. Evergreen, which closed its taxpayer-supported Devens factory in March, 2011 cut more than 1800 jobs. Evergreen’s $450 million factory, turned out to be a colossal “waste” of taxpayer money.

Ener1: FAIL! Ener1 Inc. received a $118 million U.S. Energy Department grant from President Obama to make electric-car batteries but filed for bankruptcy protection January 2012 after defaulting on bond debt.

He is right.
“Green Energy” is a criminal plot to loot the treasury, enrich cronies, and launder tax money back into Democrat coffers.

Fox had a special on it last night. Now on their website.

Obama is big on straw man arguments. State an argument your opponent never made and defend that rather than defending the legitimate criticism he did raise.

So “we spent 90 billion on green jobs, many from companies run by your big donors and many of the businesses were losers leaving taxpayers holding the bad.”

“Green energy isn’t a socialist plot.”

Notice the big leap creating the straw man. He’s rarely called on this bs.

By responding to a question that wasn’t truly put to him Obama makes our point for us! Green Energy is not only a “socialist plot” it’s uneconomical.

The point should be made by venture-capitalist Mitt Romney that the government needs to stay out of venture capitalism as well as all the meddling that they do. Obama couldn’t run a lemonade stand without screwing it up.

With his response, Obama has indicated that a nerve was struck with the green energy/socialist claim. Obviously there is some merit to it, or it wouldn’t have deserved a response.

It sure as hell ain’t about green energy. If it were they wouldn’t be spending all the money tearing out dams that could actually be producing green energy consistently.

Bret Baier’s report last night must have really gotten under his shin. Gregg Jarrett did a lot of the reporting and really dug up some good stuff the Progressives are still trying to hide.

Shove it up your personal smelly Obama, Obama.

You couldn’t pass an elementary school course on science, and you most certainly shouldn’t be making any decisions on energy save for turning off the light switch in the White House when we send your sorry as...er...smelly Obama back to the loathsome place you were born in...butthole.

Excuse me but it is a Socialist Accomplishment!

Hitler's Mein Kampf was the blueprint for his party and was stated in socialist terms. N.A.Z.I. meant national socialism where the government controlled the people and Industry!

During WWII the German Chemical Engineers converted coal to Gasoline, Aviation fuel, Diesel fuel and Natural gas which was used to fuel the NAZI war machine and industry.

These plans were captured and brought to the US where they were archived for 30 years at Texas A&M.

In 1976 they were rediscovered in the archives and Coal gasification was reclaimed . OPEC tried to avert investment but the first plant was built in Beulah North Dakota in 1982. It just celebrated its 30th year of operation. Fortunately Our Brainiac president Obumsted has directed his energy department to solve this problem within 10 years. It would only take one year to walk from DC to North Dakota but....

No, Mr. Obama, Green energy isn’t a socialist plot. It is merely a socialist pipe dream and yet another silly fad over which the Bobby-soxers of the left are currently swooning. In the end, it will go the way of last year’s pipe dreams: electric cars, corn ethanol and properly inflated tires. Please shut up before you embarass yourself further.

Instead of attacking the basic changes in energy supply created by this regime which are directly contributing to the recipients dependency on whatever the regime is handing out ,by design.

Too many pundits draw from their limited personal immediate surrounding and life style are attacking the recipients with condemnation for using what a one time was termed “relief” .They are demonstrating they haven’t a clue what a retiree on a fixed income or even those out of work are going through at this time. And that’s the problem.

You have a regime which by design are driving up the costs and uses of energy the US’s most a basic resource because it suits its socialist matrix. What’s even worse is the massive corrpution resulting from that regime doling out tons of funds for so called alternate forms which don’t work towards its campaign donners. That’s getting a pass even by the Romney campaign and a huge mistake because this policy affects everyone. It is a bread a butter issue.
