Welcome to the post-apocalypse cityscape of Detroit - before the apocalypse happens.
The men and women of the Detroit Police Department believe the city is too dangerous to enter, and they want citizens to know it.
Detroit Police Officer Association (DPOA) Attorney Donato Iorio said officers are holding the "Enter At Your Own Risk" rally at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in front of Comerica Park to remind the public that the officers are overworked, understaffed, and at times, fearful for their lives.
"Detroit is America's most violent city, its homicide rate is the highest in the country and yet the Detroit Police Department is grossly understaffed," Iorio told WWJ's Kathryn Larson. "The DPOA believes that there is a war in Detroit, but there should be a war on crime, not a war on its officers."
Iorio says the once 2,000 strong force is shrinking rapidly; since the start of summer, hundreds of officers have left the department.
"These are the men and women who we look to protect us... and police officers can't protect you if they're not there. Officers are leaving simply because they can't afford to stay in Detroit and work 12 hour shifts for what they are getting paid... These police officers are beyond demoralized, these officers are leaving hand over fist because they can no longer afford to stay on the department and protect the public," he said.
And that's why Iorio cautions those who enter the city to be wary.
Where is Robocop when we need him?

It is about time people see that many cities are unsustainable, and that bleeding the suburbs dry simply kills them off as well. People are being forced to live within their means, and if that means no police protection then so be it.
If everyone flees a toilet like this, who gets stuck with the costs of future benefits for their retirees who lotted it to begin with?

This is nothing more than a pro union publicity stunt. The police have little or no effect on crime in Detroit. In fact armed citizens are doing more than police ever could.

Even he has moved out to the suburbs and commutes to work each day.
Another byproduct of liberal ‘leadership’ and lean punishment for criminals.
Btt
I didn’t think of that but you are right. This is a call for more money for the unions. 0bama to the rescue! LOL
These cops need more cultural sensitivity training. Given the racial makeup of Detroit, talk about how unsafe it is amounts to hate speech. The man be diss’n da brothers yo. If Obama’s gay partners could have his children, they would be just like the misunderstood bangers.
I’m surprised some entrepreneur hasn’t made a little business buying up some of those homes cheap, dismantling them and reselling.
It’s pretty rare to see an all-brick home these days because of the expense, although I imagine the labor and transport costs would be substantial, not to mention the security costs during the demolition.
I’ve seen these places in person. It is worse than pictures can convey.
I propose asking all the GOP’ers to leave Detroit and then lets build a big wall around it and come back in 20 years when its quiet.
Deeeee-troit’s only #3:
1. Flint, MI 2. Camden, NJ 3. Detroit, MI 4. St Louis, MO 5. Oakland, CA 6. Cleveland, OH 7. Baltimore, MD 8. Jackson, MS 9. Newark, NJ 10. Richmond CA 11. New Orleans, LA 12. New Haven, CT 13. Little Rock, AR 14. Compton, CA 15. Buffalo, NY 16. Cincinnati, OH 17. Memphis, TN 18. Dayton, OH 19. Washington, DC 20. Stockton, CA 21. Macon, GA 22. Kansas City, MO 23. Springfield, MA 24. Hartford, CT 25. Valejo, CA
The fact that they planned their protest for the opening day of the ALDS in front of Comerica park says plenty.
Blackmail pure and simple.

“Ive seen these places in person. It is worse than pictures can convey.”
It’s shocking! On our way to Canada once my daughter asked “what happened here” of course my reply “Democrats”!
well there is a common denominator in no’s 1 to 20 but i would be politically incorrect if i said it.
All the copper/brass has probably been stripped-out already, and new brick is 20x cheaper (incl mega-labor) than dismantling old brick and cleaning it up for re-use.
Many of those buildings don’t seem structurally sound anymore. Seems like razing the city wont be such a bad idea.
Unless the city think the best way to deal with those people is to keep them isolated in uninhabitable buildings.
Looks like that film “escape from New York” only worse.
Detroit’s wealthiest slumloard/democrat donor (Matty Maroun) owns many of the collapsing industrial sites in Detroit.
Something to ponder while crossing the Ambassador bridge which Maroun also owns.
I find it incredible sad that this can happen to an American city.
Camden, NJ. Cops won’t go in there.
yes indeed and it wont be the last city the democrats and the “democrat voters”, i’ll call them that will ruin.
I see Obama went to visit?
See first pic empty chair on bottom.
Thank you for posting those images. They are beautifully done and as good art often does, they tell a story. A sad story in that many of those places were homes, places of employment or education...life...and now all of that has left them.
Liberalism/socialism/entitlementality destroys.
Might have known
It wasn’t safe 30-40 years ago.
I find this sad in a way. What kind people let this happen to a once great place. What about the good people that are stuck there? I’m not a bleeding heart but this is sad and scary at the same time.
What would be more revealing would be a comparison of Hiroshima vs Detroit circa 1945 and Hiroshima vs Detroit circa 2012.
Can u explain this situation in more detail for those of us who have no familiarity ? TIA
The cop-union thugs say just the opposite when they get their way.
“This, he thought with a sort of vague distaste this was London, chief city of Airstrip One, itself the third most populous of the provinces of Oceania. He tried to squeeze out some childhood memory that should tell him whether London had always been quite like this. Were there always these vistas of rotting nineteenth-century houses, their sides shored up with baulks of timber, their windows patched with cardboard and their roofs with corrugated iron, their crazy garden walls sagging in all directions?”
Orwell’s sixty year old dystopian vision isn’t as bad as the 21st century Detroit reality.

Detroit looks like post nuclear apocalypse.
While I’m not thrilled with the way Snyder is going about building a second bridge, I do agree that it needs to be built. Canada has had their end prepped for 30 years.
Maroun says he wants to build a second bridge but he wants to build it right into downtown Windsor (from downtown Detroit). Canada wants to build the bridge from Zug Island to the area they have prepped.
Canada is paying for the cost of construction of the bridge and will collect the tolls for 40 years. (Its a great deal for Canada right now) We have to pay to buy the land on our side and build the highway approaches. The unions are screeching that we’ll have to fire all the teacher’s police, and firemen etc.
Just take a good look on google earth at Del Ray Michigan where the American end will be.
I was once directed to a photography site that had tons of pics of Detroit. It took about an hour to go thru them, but I was completely drawn in.
Knock ‘em down and recycle what you can. Those buildings are depressing.
Canada ping, to post 40 in particular.
—If everyone flees a toilet like this, who gets stuck with the costs of future benefits for their retirees who lotted it to begin with?—
Those who don’t flee. If all flee, then the state gets it and auctions off the real estate.
This is nothing more than a pro union publicity stunt.
That’s my take too, though the town is a hell-hole.

Canada Ping!
How many cops are using the cost of living as a excuse to avoid saying, “can’t do our job due to lack of support from city because arresting the criminals may make us look racist.”
