Gallup: Romney scored biggest debate win in history
The Hill ^ | OCTOBER 8, 2012 | Christian Heinze

Posted on 10/08/2012 10:09:55 AM PDT by kingattax

According to a new Gallup poll of those who watched last week's presidential debate, 72% picked Mitt Romney as the winner, while only 20% thought Barack Obama won.

That''s the biggest win in history, exceeding even Bill Clinton's 42% advantage in his townhall debate over George H.W. Bush (the one where Bush checked his watch).

The numbers on Romney vs. Obama reflect those of snap opinion polls.

According to Gallup, Republicans gave him a 95% win over Obama, Independents picked him, 70%-19%, and even Democrats thought Romney won, 49%-39%.

But does that really matter?

Yes, Gallup notes that in the three days following the debate, Romney erased a 5% deficit among registered voters to tie Obama, 47%-47%.

Going forward, everyone expects Obama to do much better in the second debate, but Joe Scarborough made an interesting point this morning.

The second tussle is a townhall debate, and that puts some natural constraints on Obama's ability to attack. Audiences want you to focus on them and their questions for you; not on your opponent. They also expect a more personal affair -- one that's less friendly to being unfriendly.

One more thing to note: This morning marks the fifth since the first presidential debate wrapped up, and Morning Joe is opening yet again with a chat about the debate. That kind of staying power is fairly unprecedented in today's perpetually peripatetic news cycles.

I am reminded of what Ann Romney said in her speech “This. Man. Will. Not. Fail”

I punctuate it like this because that’s the way she said it.

There is nothing special about Romneys performance. Obama’s just clueless and unqualified. Without the media to prop him up and not challenge him, he’s an empty suit.

Well....they’re just a bunch of black-hating racists.

Obama was altitude impaired. Obama is so cool, he don’t need to be bothered with this useless crap....Obama didn’t get his nap time that day......Obama’s diaper was full...blah blah blah.....

Unfortunately, today`s Gallup has Obama back up +5 at 50-45. Looks like the juiced jobs numbers blunted Romney`s gains.

There is no way that Romney can gain +5 in one day and lose it the next on a 7 day moving average like Gallup uses. It would take huge changes in the polling to achieve that big a movement. Gallup is cooking the books somehow.

And they still say Obama is going to win the election? Get your ammo ready and food supplies stocked. When the Kenyan loses all bets are off. Blacks and leftist are going to turn out cities into trash heaps. And a state of emergency will be called.

Yeah, and it’s going to get even ‘uglier’ for the ‘Bamster on the 2nd Debate. Romney’s demonstrated that he’s a Juggernaut who can expertly debate with ‘facts and truth’ behind his arguments, totally unmasking the utter fraud that is Obama.

For those who think the first debate was lopsided, wait till the 2nd one. The panty-waist/bowing-apologizing foreign policy of Obama’s is going to be dissected and spit out for what it has been, and utter failure... bordering on treason.

After the 2nd Debate, the Bamster’s gonna call out SICK and vote “Present” for the 3rd one. Or he might send in Moochelle to do a real man’s fight.

The way I see it, Obama scored a record-breaking loss.

Romney erased a 5% deficit among registered voters to tie Obama, 47%-47%.

Of course, since there is a considerable enthusiasm gap favoring Romney, this projects to a lead of several points for him among likely voters.

Morning Joe panel all saying, “emperor has no cloths,” is a must see.

They are saying that their Democratic friends all came up to them on the weekend and asked what’s wrong with Obama, and some of them said they might vote for Romney.

Last time Obama ran against McCain...a dead moose could have beat his campaign.

Now we have team Romney/Ryan, already demonstrating their abilities and liberals gasping for breath.

It just keeps getting better.

Sarah Palin took Biden to the wood shed and never broke a sweat!

Ryan will have no problem with Joe.

That panicked ruckus you’re hearing is the sound of millions of Obama supporters finally waking up to the fact that their Golden Child is, in fact, a bit of a dullard.

John McCain may have been the only person on our side of the aisle at the national level who was capable of making Obama look like a “constitutional scholar.”

The President is a dimwit.

That made my day. Great to hear that the debate is having a lasting impact, and beginning a conversation among disappointed liberals about switching sides.

(the one where Bush checked his watch).

Always have to get that shot in.

There are clocks on the podiums, I'm told, to keep track of time. There were no podiums. There were no clocks. Bush didn't have "someplace better to be". He was timing Clinton's response.

I believe that Obama really has a tin ear for such things. I suspect he may over-react and go after Romney in a way which is a turn-off in a town hall format.

No. He does well in this format, because he's a master of filibustering with platitudes. The questions will be softballs, and the pony-tailed guy isn't going to cross-examine el Presidente.

Liberals, who are now willing to consider voting for Romney, will tune in to this debate. Romney will reinforce his competence, and liberals may now be attuned to Obama's vacuity.

Romney will win, but the victory will be narrower.

I remember that debate where George Bush (the Elder) checked his watch! What a bonehead move that was. But it wasn’t half as bad as Obama staring at his shoes for half an hour while Romney lectured him.

“Gallup has Obama back up +5 “

Seems the experts put most faith in Rasumssen. Also, I recall how the White House (Axelrod, I think) took Gallup to the woodshed and explained how they would be reporting polls. I don’t put much stock in Gallup. I’m hoping the results of the November 6 poll will be an answer to prayers.
