TIME TO TAKE GRAMA'S KEYS (CONGRESSWOMAN LOUISE SLAUGHTER)
Lonsberry.com ^ | Oct. 8, 2012 | Bob Lonsberry

We all love Grama.

But it’s time to take away the keys.

It’s not about how many years she’s been driving. It’s not about all the great things she’s done. It’s not about how much you appreciate and respect her.

It’s not about yesterday, it’s about today.

It’s about common sense and realizing that this can’t go on. She can’t do today what she did yesterday, and the passage of time has done what the passage of time does.

She won’t want to give them up. She will be certain that she’s still capable. She might even fight you over it. And it might lead to some temporary hard feelings.

But it’s the right thing to do.

It’s time to take away Grama’s keys.

For most middle-aged people across Monroe County, Louise Slaughter has been in Congress all of their adult lives. There are grandparents today who were newlyweds when she was first elected. There are local men who have been born, grown, fought in war and died, all since Louise Slaughter went to Washington. For a generation, this region’s voice and face in Washington have been Louise Slaughter.

Different people will see the effectiveness of those years differently. Those who view insider status and being a spokesperson for partisan cause as important will note success. Those who think legislative accomplishment and local benefit are important will find less success.

She has been a champion of America’s liberal and feminist causes, and earned praise or criticism as a result.

She has had a long and interesting career.

Please, it is not an age issue, although 83 is too old when she seems old and befuddled and lost when she is on television. She is an embarrassment to Western New York. I don't know who I cannot stand more...her or Granny Panties Kirsten Gillibrand...both obsessed with women's issues instead of issues facing ALL New Yorkers.

TERM LIMITS! That would get most of the elderly and befuddled out. Anybody remember Strom Thurmond? Plus, according to friends in SC, the older he got, the bigger a problem he had with - er, wandering hands. Women didn’t want to be in the same elevator with him.

People get very loyal to their legislator “de toda la vida,” as the Spanish would say, meaning “as long as I can remember.” So there needs to be a mandatory term limit for all offices.

I caught her on C-span a few times earlier this year during some committee meetings..either Rules or Ways and Means. She’s ranking member on several key subcommittees..While I detest her politics, she seemed very alert and spry..spoke well...compared to most of the female members of the black caucus...she’s an Einstein..

Who spells Grandma this way — affirmative action “journalists”?

My Father’s drivers license expired when he was around 88. He was no longer driving but in order to keep insurance on his car it was necessary to keep his DL.

My Sister and I took him to the Florida license office to get his license renewed. The only test they gave him was the eye test. He was so unsteady on his feet that my Sister stood beside him and held the back of his belt to keep him steady.

He passed the eye test and got his license.

Nice sentiment, but if “Granma” is a self-sustaining adult you can’t simply take her keys away from her. If she’s a danger, her license to drive has got to be revoked by the authority that issued it.

She has a ZERO rating from an organization trying to stop illegal aliens from getting bennies from the government. She is an illegal alien’s best friend.

He is as caucasion as it gets...he is Rochester’s Rush Limbaugh, but he is far from getting it right on many occasions. He was the one who Glenn Beck fired as a vacation replacement for his radio show for unknown reasons.

This article has nothing to do with older people driving...it is more about Ms. Slaughter’s uselessness as a congresswoman...one who has been one for over 20 years with little accomplishment behind it. Also, she tends to be interested in women’s issues (liberal women’s issues, that is).

OK, let’s get rid of people who have lived long enough to live through history and how that relates to what is happening today.

When are people useless, at what age? Let’s decide and get rid of these people - maybe mass confinement or whatever - don’t give them water and they will be gone in 3-4 days.

If anyone wants to get rid of me at my age of 80, put me in a “home” or worse, be prepared for a fight - my tactical vest is loaded and so is my gun. My vision is 20/20 and my brain works extremely well which it always has.

Voters will decide about Louise based on her performance whether she is 21 or 90.

MOST Gramma’s are more lucid and ANYONE that listens to RAP music..
RAP music is not music, its not even poetry.. or prose..
Its Propaganda or worse Agitprop..

Amazing how stupid MOST American children have become..
Not slow or stunted or even ignorant but STUPID..
12 years of public school has destroyed their desire to learn anything..

Its not an accident either.. it was done with forethought and amazing connivance..
By teachers Unions and democrat politicians and not a few republicans..

Should be a Capital crime.. the dumbing down of America.. ON PURPOSE..
The punishment...... HANGING!... (after being water boarded for names of other criminals)..

But she acts totally confused and befuddled. That is why she does few interviews and will not do town hall meetings and never does press conferences.

Performance? She has done abhorantly as congresswoman. The only reason she gets re elected is gerrymandering and the fact the idiots in her district would vote for Judas over Jesus as long as (D) comes after the name.

Here, for the uninformed of her record:

Not term limits but a maximium age. How about we set 80 as the oldest you can be to run.

Back when Bush was president and gas prices were first pushing $3 / gallon, she proposed ( informally but publicly I believe, I don’t recall if she actually introduced it in the House) legislation that would cap prices at $2.50 / gallon when they were already well above that. That means one of two things:

Breathtaking ignorance of economics or

She's a shameless hack

Seeing how she has nothing to say as gas is approaching $6 in CA and there’s a dem-hole in the Whitehouse, that proves she’s a shameless partisan hack.

But I’ll wager she’s also economically ignorant as well.

She is a Democrat and that's the way she votes. There is a comment on here that she was seen/heard on a sub-committee that held hearings and she was fine.

You wouldn't like her politics if she was 21, and you won't vote for her which is the thing to do. If the others in her district are happy with her, they will vote her back in.

I think you’re going to run into discrimination laws then.

An incompetent 80 yr old is not likely to be elected for the first time (or if he or she is, that means this person is actually capable of the job and was capable of campaigning). Most of the 80+ or even 70+ elected reps are people who have had multiple terms.

Limit them all to two terms in whatever position it is, and the problem would be solved.
