Update: Tanks in the streets as Venezuelan electoral council declares Hugo Chavez victory

Update 10:50 p.m.: According to the Associated Press, Venezuela’s electoral council has declared that Hugo Chavez beat Henriques Capriles in Sunday’s presidential election with about 54 percent of the vote, despite exit polls showing otherwise.

Venezuela Twitter users have claimed Chavez’s victory was wrought with election fraud, and that the socialist incumbent president sent tanks into the streets of his country as those exit poll reports showed him losing. A picture of the tanks surfaced on Twitter Sunday evening.

The British Guardian newspaper reported that Chavez also sent troops armed with AK-47s into Venezuela’s streets to fight against any protests in case unrest came as a result of the news.

A Spanish news outlet reported earlier on Sunday that exit polls showed Capriles defeated the socialist president by a narrow margin.

An excellent example of why we must have a Second Amendment.

Also a good example of how “the results conflict with the exit polls” might be used to monkey with the outcome here.

I am hesitant to call the exit po;; results good or fraudulent after John Kerry lost by over 120,000 in Ohio despite what the exit polls said.

Best thing about elections in Canada is that they poll the entire country via paper ballot.

The local polling place opens the box in presence of all observers and counts them. The totals are phoned in to Election Central where they are aggregated with all other totals.

Done in a few hours. It's not rocket science. No reason why we can't do it here.

Not directly over the election.
0bama won’t steal the election and then put tanks in the streets.

What might happen, though, is that his zombie army might mobilize after he loses, and the tanks will be ordered out to keep the non-zombies from defending themselves.

True. But I think a lot of people are really grasping the idea that bad guys are running the place and the government employees are there to prevent the good guys from defending their families and their property. The time may come when the government employees and the zombies are all seen as part of one big gang, and it will be open season on them all.

Did anybody seriously think Hugo was going to say, “Well, looks like I lost, bye!”?

The kenyan has resembled Chavez more than most other national figures. I expect something untoward after the election, especially if the voting and the count are obviously monkeyed with.

Perhaps more than we know:

http://bwcentral.org/2011/07/u-s-voting-machines-linked-to-venezuela/

The U.S. is looking into the takeover of a voting-systems manufacturer by a small company with ties to Hugo Chávez’s leftist government.

The federal government is investigating the takeover last year of a leading U.S. manufacturer of electronic voting systems by a small software company that has been linked to the leftist government of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez.
