As is particle physics, but it's not a dream.
It's true.

The pain you feel today is the strength you'll have tomorrow.
I remember when my grandmother was in the hospital and we knew she was dying. She was 100. I remember hearing her having a conversation with her two sisters who had died before her. It was like they were welcoming her to Heaven. She died within the hour.
I also note that none of these "near death" experiences involve someone being revived in a terror struck state describing torment and suffering?
You owe me a new laptop keyboard!! LOL!!
“So heaven is unimaginable. For you, you should add.”
Not really. God Himself said that the human mind cannot encompass what He has prepared for us after this life.
Oh, there are ones like that. But most people who see a hellish situation don’t publicize their visions or experiences.
Sam’s Club used to sell the most beautiful Manger sets at Christmas — incrdibly detailed and dressed in “silk” robes. (I have one from several years ago.) The sets were different evey year, but they always came in 2 versions — black figures or white figures. The “white” set had one of the kings who was black, but the black set was all black (I think). The faces were the same — just the skin a different tone and the hair diffeent. Actually I liked the black version better because the colors had a little more depth, but I thought that the grandchildren wouldn’t understand.
The set I have is in a desert scene with a stone manger that looks like a ruined building and palm trees. It’s beautiful.
Very nice. :)
Fascinating story. It confirms a lot of things Christians have always suspected it was like. In a way, I’m glad he was such a skeptic beforehand.
It explains, as much as our earthly minds can fathom, some of the things we are told in Scripture about the joy and peace of Heaven that surpasses all understanding.
I cant help but think that it will be on a completely different level.

I think so too. How else can we be reunited with our parents and our children - people who intersect our own lives at very different stages.
But I also believe in near death experiences. My nephew, about age 4, fell out of a window, was unconscious for a time and when he regained consciousness, related that he had “dreamed” of going up in the air to the sky with balloons holding him up. He said it was a wonderful feeling. Could this have been how a four-year-old human brain interpreted what was happening to him?
“I remember hearing her having a conversation with her two sisters who had died before her.”
Everyone is sitting around grandpa’s hospital bed waiting for his last breath. The room is quiet. Suddenly he raises his head from the pillow, his eyes fixed on a corner of the ceiling, he smiles and exclaims: “JACK”!?? He lays back and is dead. His son Jack had predeceased him by a year. True story.
Heaven will be far superior to life on earth. Good enough for me.
Lazarus dead 4 days.
I believe there’s got to be something to it.
Thanks for this post. I enjoyed imagining his experiences. Sounds very beautiful and peaceful.
I’ve thought of that but who do you ask?
I don’t doubt for a moment she was hearing/seeing them. Amazing.
I see a lot of attempts to either validate or discredit these descriptions of NDEs by comparing the details that are related to other people's NDEs or other sources of description of what lies beyond this mortal experience. What they are failing to take into account is that the descriptions are all given when the subject is back in their bodies and using their brains and the tools of ordinary language to attempt to describe their experience to people who have never had one.
It is not necessarily the case that what they experienced was actually different just because the descriptions they give when back in the ordinary realm of life contain different details and varied analogies. They certainly must be analogies since they all say they are trying to describe something that doesn't exist in any way shape or form here in our ordinary state.
I wish I could have one gentle word from God whispered in my ear, or some joyful change of fortune to prove that my family's suffering is only temporary.
Imagine having eternity to read every book ever written.
Looking forward to that Great Kindle in the Sky!
Relax, and think, think back, it’s all there.
The ususal little simple minded demons jumped in on the comments below the article.
This scientist going public with experiencing God is like a Black person announcing she is voting for a Republican. The herd people can not tolerate any public defections from group think.
well...go to fhu.com and give that Be Still exercise a try. It will put you on an amazing road. You can hear it for free also at copingstrategiescd.com.
Who said anything about near death being the same as death?? Just say , hey, I don’t believe any of this instead of making useless statements.

Of course. And the reason the people who write about these things relate visions that may seem a bit pedestrian to the rest of us--herds of butterflies, a blond Jesus, lovely gardens--are because our heavenly hosts have to speak the language our limited human minds can comprehend. No, the people who are blessed to have these experiences have to be able to grasp them and then relay them to the rest of us. As you note, they don't actually die and go to heaven, but only seem to be on the doorstep. Surely our minds could not circumscribe the joys of heaven. Naturally their visions may seem somewhat mundane. But that doesn't mean these things didn't happen or that the patients haven't been entrusted with an important message for the rest of the world.
Here in Revelation 4 we see heaven and the activity of heaven. God the Father and The Son Jesus Christ are the center of everything in heaven and all activity is around them in worship and adoration.
This what our activity on earth should also be like, for those of us who are the bride of Christ.
Matthew 6:9-10 ESV
Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Revelation 4:1-11 ESV
After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God, and before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass, like crystal.
And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind:
the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight. And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,
“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
who was and is and is to come!”
And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they existed and were created.”
Sounds a lot like DMT experiences I’ve read on erowid. Apparently the brain releases DMT when near death, so it wouldn’t surprise me that when you really die you get all this (if it’s slow, not totally brain destroyed at once violently) and then fades out to a state of what it was like before you were born.
Heaven will be for me to reunite in Heaven with my beloved SO who had passed away suddenly early last month.
See you there! I am completely okay with all of that.
I have heard of several “hell” stories. You could probably google (or bing) them.
I’ve thought of that before. Eternity to read every book ever written.
My father was friends with his father. They were both neurosurgeons.
I've heard from those who actually seem to have had a geniune 'peek behind the curtain' that, for example, the 'white light' they 'saw' was much too bright to really call it 'seeing the light' because with earthly eyes, they say it would have immediately blinded them. That's but one example of what you state, being probably true.
There is a little kid’s story, the little kid is now in his early teens, but he tells about being in Heaven at the age of 3 and that he saw his great-grandfather and his older sister. There is a book about his experience. I read the beautiful pictures children’s edition.
We got cynical.
I blame Obama.
Heaven is a may fly hatch on the West Madison River.
Me, I'm going to explore the rest of the universe. I imagine there's an infinite number of life forms on an infinite number of planets. How cool would it be to look them all over?

When I had surgery twice in my life, I had what looked like a “vision” of being with the Good Sheperd.
The Apostle Paul was allowed to see portions of heaven as was John. We also know the account of at least two persons Jesus himself brought back from the dead not counting the busted open graves upon His death. We have documentation of persons being brought back from the dead in the Old Testament as well. Elijah is associated with that event IIRC. Then we have Acts Ch 2
18In the last days, God said, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.
Many person who have worked with persons in the process of leaving this world can tell you of their patients visions and descriptions. Then again some persons have no visions that they speak of. My wife had a NDE & I was with her when it happened. She never lost consciousness in the process and was aware of what was happening. She was describing it to me on the way to the ER. We understand so little of our spirit being which lives eternal.
I've read the of post in this thread and one stuck out. How could a person who has seen heaven at what ever level describe that which is not of this world? What was Paul seeing? John? Or go back to the Old Testament prophets. How could they describe what they saw. It would be like a person who lived 100 years ago seeing the world now.
I believe these things happen to strengthen us or help us understand to trust in faith something else is there. They are massages in some cases too help us come to Christ seeking salvation because of what we see or hear, or it is for the benefit of the ones witnessing the event. We likely won't know this side of heaven. My wife's grandmother was a music teacher. As she was dieing in her final last couple of hours her hands were moving in motions of directing a piano student or a choir. What was she hearing?
Look at Thomas. A Disciple of Christ who was taught by Christ and traveled with him. Thomas had problems when he was told Christ had arisen and had been seen by others.
John ch 24 24One of the disciples, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin£), was not with the others when Jesus came. 25They told him, We have seen the Lord! But he replied, I wont believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side. 26Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. He said, Peace be with you. 27Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here and see my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Dont be faithless any longer. Believe! 28My Lord and my God! Thomas exclaimed. 29Then Jesus told him, You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who havent seen me and believe anyway.
What will Christ do & to what lengths will He go to find and save His lost sheep? I don't think we anywhere near see & understand but a small portion of what goes on that is unknown to us but happens for our sakes.
Lazarus came back from death.
Yes, that was not “near-death”.
It was resurrection.
I wish I could have one gentle word from God whispered in my ear,
Everybody knows that the answer to that one is Virginia!
That was as lame as the Celestine Prophecy that I read as a New Age & Buddhism dabbler, and every bit as unbiblical.
Everybody knows that the answer to that one is Virginia!
