A southwest suburban man a convicted felon required to return to Chicago under the conditions of his federal probation says hes stranded in legal limbo outside the United States because hes apparently on a U.S. terrorist watch list.
Enaam Arnaout pleaded guilty in 2003 to funneling money to Islamic fighters in Bosnia and Chechnya.
The former director of the Benevolence International Foundation in Palos Hills was sentenced to 10 years in prison for defrauding contributors to the charity.
He admitted he siphoned a portion of the charitys $20 million in donations to buy equipment for soldiers, even though the money was intended for widows and orphans.
Arnaout, 50, a Bridgeview resident, denied he was ever associated with al-Qaida, and prosecutors dropped terrorism charges against him in exchange for his guilty plea.
Arnaout, who was placed on supervised release last year, received permission this summer from U.S. District Judge Suzanne Conlon to travel to Saudi Arabia and Jordan to visit family members. He was allowed to stay for 41 days before returning to the Chicago area.
In a letter to the judge, Arnaouts brother in Saudi Arabia had begged for her to approve the trip so Arnaout could see his ailing mother.
In court papers filed Monday in Chicago, Arnaout said hes been stuck in Egypt because he is apparently on a U.S. no-fly list maintained by the Terrorist Screening Center and administered by the FBI.

It sounds as if he’d be happier in Egypt, doesn’t it?
Good. F him. Schadenfreude. How is that said in barbarism?
It looks like that is where he belongs...absorbing mega-doses of lead.
Here’s a compromise. Bring him half-way back and cut him loose over the Atlantic.
At least he’s not stuk inn Irak.
He doesn’t need to be breathing our air. He shouldn’t be breathing any air.
Wrap him in bacon first.
Ok he is on the no-fly list so take a boat.l
Actions have consequences.
Now, back to your camel, Enaam.
A Libyan-American who says he was forbidden from returning to the United States and questioned by FBI agents in Tunisia after visiting neighboring Libya insists he has done nothing wrong.
He was most likely on his way back to Chicago to help in the Obama campaign. Sarc.
Some background on this terrorist:
Islamic Charity Chief Chargedwith Supporting Terrorists
October 10, 2002|By Pedro Ruz Gutierrez and Jim Leusner Florida Correspondents
A former Titusville resident who ran a U.S.-based Islamic charity accused of aiding al-Qaida and other terrorist groups was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury on racketeering, conspiracy, money-laundering and fraud charges.
Enaam Arnaout, 40, executive director of Benevolence International Foundation Inc. in the Chicago suburb of Palos Hills, Ill., was accused in a wide-ranging indictment of defrauding thousands of donors by secretly supplying money and weapons to terrorists and rebels instead of humanitarian aid to war-ravaged nations.
The charity’s founders opened a Plantation office in 1993 and folded it the next year. The general manager, Adham Hassoun, was detained in South Florida by the INS earlier this year and is awaiting deportation.
The charges are the U.S. government’s most sweeping action yet against an official of a charitable organization since the war on terror began.
“It is sinister to prey on good hearts to fund the works of evil,” Attorney General John Ashcroft said at a Chicago news conference. “... We will find the sources of terrorist blood money.”
Tax returns show that Benevolence raised more than $12.3 million from 1996 to April 2001. Officials did not disclose how much allegedly went for illicit purposes, and the charity itself was not charged.
U.S. District Judge Suzanne Conlon should have to serve out his time.
It was totally stupid to let a man like this out of the country.
She has waste for brains.Or she is just another liberal idiot. Probably a bit of both.
Sounds like for once the govt got it right.
Perhaps he can get a job in the Embassy.
Why waste the bacon when pig crap will work just as well and is much more appropriate?
It would be even more stupid to let him back in.
the article doesn’t mention if he is a citizen or not, so I’d assume he isn’t, in which case he can just bloody well stay in egypt, where I’m sure he’ll fit right in with all the other goat molesters.
BTW is he a nationalize citizen? If so why hasn't his citizenship been stripped?
I wondered about that also, other articles say he is a US Citizen. Kind of hard to not allow a US Citizen back in the US, he should just take a boat trip or fly into another country (Canada/Mexico) and then drive back.
Revoke his passport and leave him there.
Amen to that Brother.

He’s a convicted muzzie felon. he knew that if he left the USA there’d be problems getting back in.
LET HIM ROT IN EGYPT.
We don’t want him back.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
