Game Changer? The federal government paid nearly $40 million dollars to Claire McCaskills husbands businesses her first five years in office as Missouri Senator. During that time McCaskill has had influence over federal policy that has directly affected her familys income.
Missouri royalty - The rest of the country has suffered but Claire McCaskill and her husband Joseph Shepard have done very well these past five years.
There are renewed calls for Democrat McCaskill to release her tax returns. ABC3040 reported:
Businesses affiliated with the husband of Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill have received almost $40 million in federal subsidies for low-income housing developments during her first five years in office, though it appears only fraction of that has made it to the familys bank accounts, according to an Associated Press analysis.
McCaskills Republican challenger, Rep. Todd Akin, says the federal payments should be a cause for concern among voters. Hes attempting to portray the Democratic senators family as a prime beneficiary of government largesse.
There is a conflict of interest and a breach of trust with the citizens of our state, Akin said in an interview with the AP.
McCaskill campaign spokesman Caitlin Legacki called such assertions flat-out wrong.
There is no evidence that McCaskill personally routed the money to her husbands businesses. But she voted for some and against other bills that funded the federal housing and agriculture departments, which in turn provide subsidies to businesses with federal contracts to provide low-income housing.

Did Pelosi and Feinstein teach her?
Bet she got coaching also from Shelly Berkley.
That harridon here in Nevada has bloody hands in more ways than one. Her husband has dialysis businesses in Las Vegas that got lots of Fed help.
She’s no DiChiFi , that’s for sure.. chump change.. lol
“Businesses affiliated with the husband of Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill have received almost $40 million in federal subsidies for low-income housing developments”
Well, that sounds like much ado about nothing. Most likely, his businesses just manage some properties that are HUD subsidized low-income housing. That’s federal money that is available to anyone who wants to be in that line of work, it doesn’t require any political favoritism at all to get in on that gravy train, although so many rules come with it, you may not see any increase in profitability.
Well hell, that’s $4 million in the bank, if you look at typical p&l.
not bad unbabe....
We’re just trying to pick on her and make sure loooooses...
I get your point...
How is Aiken doing? Did the GOP wise up and find SOME way to launder funds to him? The Dems do it all the time - from OVERSEAS!
I guess there are only three respectable way to make your millions. Sports, entertainment and being a Dem politician who uses his/her connections.
Independent superPACS are now with Akin. He’s doing well. I think he’ll win it. McCatSkull is just too unpopular.
What is it the Democrats always argue when they are targeting a Republican?
Something to the effect of “it’s the appearance of impropriety” that counts here.
So turn it around on them Akin, and no matter their argument use their own words.
The only unemployment I am interested in is
FIRING CLAIRE!!! She has to go, anywhere, but go!
As the election nears she claims she is at 50%
of the Senate in being conservative.
Now the usual GO TODD, GO!!!!
Not the first for Claire and the hubby
Sorry to rain on the parade, I just can’t get on board with cursing people for stuff that we would dismiss if our guys got accused of it.
Hey, if our guys were in the same position then it’s the same “Game On”.
Cheetuhs is Cheetuhs....
A very fitting turn of phrase.
This is SOP in Washington and until it stops we will be plagued with a Congress full of McCaskills.
In the meantime, let's see her tax returns.
Hello Senator Akin.
