Dying woman humiliated by revealing TSA pat-down
KOMO ^ | 10/9/2012 | Joel Moreno

A dying woman says a a security pat-down at Sea-Tac Airport left her embarrassed in front of crowds of people.

Michelle Dunaj says screeners checked under bandages from recent surgeries and refused to give her a private search when she requested one.

Dunaj, who is dying of leukemia, carried a large amount of prescription drugs through Sea-Tac to head to Hawaii for what would be one of the last trips of her life.

She called Alaska Airlines ahead of time to request a wheelchair and to ask how her medicines should be separated for the security line.

"I did everything they asked me to do, so I didn't think it would be an issue," she said.

But Dunaj says nothing went right at the security checkpoint.

A machine couldn't get a reading on her saline bags, so a TSA agent forced one open, contaminating the fluid she needs to survive.

She says agents also made her lift up her shirt and pull back the bandages holding feeding tubes in place. Dunaj needs those tubes because of organ failure.

With other passengers staring, Dunaj says she asked for privacy and was turned down.

"They just said that it was fine; the location we were at was fine," she said.

TSA spokesperson Ann Davis said "Officers are trained to perform pat downs in a dignified manner and, at any point, passengers can request a private screening with a witness present."

However, Dunaj says her request for a private screening was denied, and she does not want others with special needs to run into the same problem.

"When somebody wants to take a trip, especially what I call an 'end-of-life trip' because you want to see your family and friends, then it becomes more important than just taking a trip," she said.

Davis said it is against policy for passengers to be denied privacy if they ask for it. The agency is responding to a request by KOMO News to look into the incident.

Lack the ability to discern gentle ribbing when you see it? Sad.

I swore never to fly again because of this crap. I gave up over $400 in free tickets. We’ve got to stop feeding the beast. It’s the only way because I don’t hear any politicians saying anything about it. Way too many voters doing those pat downs.

“TSA spokesperson Ann Davis said “Officers are trained to perform pat downs in a dignified manner and, at any point, passengers can request a private screening with a witness present.”

Let us all recall that we were assured by Senator Chuck Schumer (D, NY) that should airline security personnel be “federalized” that they would be “more professional”. Yes indeed.

Do you really think Romney will do anything about this?

All the Washington elites are fine with this. Keeps the little people down, and woe to the guy who lightens up and then an "incident" happens: the blamestorming would be overwhelming.

Neither party has any intention of backing down on this. On the contrary, it will be expanded, and no judge will stop them, because it's combating "terrorism".

Obama hates Jews with a passion. A smart president would take note that Israel has been flying bomb-free in spite of far more concerted attempts to terrorize Israel than the USA, and get a blue ribbon team from Israel to advise on how to cut the groping way down, if not eliminate it altogether.

Why does it matter that she’s dying? If I’m going to live for decades to come that’s only longer to live with sexual assault.

Cheap sympathy ploy.

I certainly hope that I misunderstood what you are saying.

IF NOT what rock did you crawl out from under?

‘Zackly. The TSA is really just the airlines means of foisting off security liability onto the government/taxpayers.

The problem is that the libs always screamed against "profiling" because it was/is considered "discriminatory" by the PC crowd -- that's why the Bush Admin relented and started with the "search granny" program.

With reference to your post 24 pointing out that the TSA’s tentacles reach the bus stations and the highways, well, then all is lost unless the American people react by getting the Congress to stop this crap. Otherwise, our freedoms will continue to contract.

I don’t have a lot of confidence that they will do anything about it, judging from what they’ve allowed—and continue to allow—the TSA to do in the airports.

It sure is nice to be old and to not have to worry a lot about the future.

I so agree with you both. I too had a totally embarrassing pat down from TSA, and I don't plan on flying again until they do away with these atrocious acts. The only way they get away with this is because they have “federal government” behind them. austinaero, you are right in that they have never caught even one terrorist doing this, but many possible terrorists have gotten through “security” and traveled without luggage, passports, etc., but we shouldn't profile.

A few levels down. Nothing that would require a cigarette or a restraining order, depending on whether you’re the groper or gropee. His (or her) postings just reminded me of the saying that talking to yourself is fine; it’s when you start answering that you have to worry. Any offense was unintentional. Unlike the TSAssaults.

I look at those pictures you posted, and I am reminded of the “leadership” of the DHS which I believe is the department TSA answers to, and that department’s categorization of true American Patriots as “Domestic Terrorists”. Only then can I understand why these people act as though they are dealing with enemy agents as they perform their duties.

THEY truly believe those categories of true American patriots are the enemy. Their boss Janet Napolitano told them so, and has instructed them accordingly.

Americans put up with Gestapo treatment just to be “fair.” I bet that even fewer Arabs end up being groped by El Al than would get groped through the present “equal opportunity” TSA system. I will, with disgust, put up with scanners, but the groping is an open door for weirdos to feel you up.

Congress can't understand what all the TSA fuss is about. I mean, it's not like they've had to go thru something as bourgeois as a pat-down.

True, note that if you’re willing to shell 10K+, or split a charter with a couple dozen people, you can travel without the attendant security crap like an elite too...

FIRST and foremost on Romney’s list in January MUST be to disband the TSA. Enough!

ROTFLMAO

Boy, are you going to be disappointed by White Horse.
