We're all immigrants, the only difference being that some of us happen to have been born here
The Baltimore Sun ^ | October 9, 2012 | John Holter

Posted on 10/09/2012 5:42:09 PM PDT by moonshinner_09

Think you are an American citizen? Well think again, because you and I are probably illegal immigrants There were no humans born on the original land mass of what is today known as the United States.

The National Geographic Society thinks that the first inhabitants migrated to the Americas some 13,000 years ago, and they are not sure who got here first. That means that even our "native" Native Americans may be here illegally.

So let us get something straight: When a citizen gripes about letting all these "foreigners" in, they should stop to reconsider: he or she might be one of them. Weren't we also the invaders who took the land from the Indians? The Pilgrims came here without visas or passports About the only thing any of us have going for us are squatters' rights. This may be the land of the free and the home of the brave, but it also happens to be the world's greatest melting pot. Get used to it.

The Pilgrims came here without visas or passports, like in that time period their were borders and gov offices to issue visas and passports.

Why should there even be a “golden door” any more? Just rip it off its hinges and what’s beyond it becomes the world’s door mat, truly a cosmopolitan zone and not a country. There is not a single other country in the modern world that suffers from such suicidal madness.

it also happens to be the world's greatest melting pot

A melting pot means assimilation. There is no melting pot when people refuse to learn and use English, retain loyalty to their birth countries, and reject the unique American experience and culture of self-reliance, natural rights, and individual liberty.

A little footnote to history.

Most indian tribes fought on the side of the British in the American Revolution.

Journalist would well remember that as they exercise their first Amendment rights PAID IN BLOOD fighting these indian tribes fighting next to the British and Loyalists.

Good grief. There was no sovereign nation in what became the U.S. when the Pilgrims arrived; or, for that matter, when the first “Americans” arrived from Siberia via the Bering Straits landbridge. There can be no “immigration” without a sovereign state to “immigrate” to. Migration is not the same as immigration.

This is complete bs. I’m NOT an immigrant; I was born here. Further, while my ancestors may have been involuntary immigrants, they were NOT criminal illegal aliens. Their criminality was from entirely different laws broken. There were NO immigrations laws here to break.

The US is not a geographical place. Its a constitutional republic. So, you’re a citizen or you’re not a citizen. The rules are clear.

In a democracy, we agree to share power with our neighbors. But we don’t agree to share power with just anyone; thats where the rules of citizenship come in.

Some malcontents claim that Indians had governments. And do not mention that they were local affairs, and never managed to stake out geographic rights in the sense we know them today. Had North American Indians had the savvy to come up with the concept of geographically defined states, then we’d be talking a different story. They were nomads.

There was no such thing as an “American citizen” until 1776. There are also plenty of Americans who are privileged to be descendants of the first “citizens.” I am proud to say I am one, having twenty-three ancestors who fought in the American Revolution, on both my paternal and maternal side. So I along with many others, we can truthfully state we are not immigrants.

Correct.

If I go to an Asian city, and overstay my visa BY A LENGTHY PERIOD OF TIME, I expect to be arrested, jailed, fined, and DEPORTED.

If I sneak into a foreign city, forge my documents to get a job, and get caught, I expect a long time in prison in a horrible place, and likely beaten as well.

I am a Native American. I was born here. In Brooklyn, NYC. Passports didn’t come into vogue until the mid-1800’s. Visa’s started shortly after stating the purpose where they came from and when will they be leaving or had to leave in order to buy ,sell, or trade even travel and the practice has been around ever since. That started around the Roman empire days.

Lol, if we follow that line of nonsense, and if we believe that man originated in Africa, then all the peoples of the world are immigrants except those who still live near where man supposedly originated.

And I know any self-respecting, PC 'jounalist' will subscribe to the "out of Africa" theory.

But none of that is relevant to immigration laws in 2012.

Illegal immigration cannot possibly be a good policy, period.

Of course the author’s entire premise is that America is illegitimate and if we become Mexico, China, or some other hell hole so be it.

All the more reason to control immigration.

This is all a load of crap. I sometimes hear people talk about how we “stole” the land from Indians. Well you know what, they aren’t getting it back. It’s our place now and you have to play by our rules. We decide who’s illegal and who’s not - our standards for deciding are very simple.

The National Geographic Society thinks that the first inhabitants migrated to the Americas some 13,000 years ago, and they are not sure who got here first. That means that even our "native" Native Americans may be here illegally.

Logic like this is why I canceled my National Geographic subscription thirty years ago.

Evidently the folks at National Geographic are not bright enough to realize that a population that predated laws could not possibly do anything illegal.

What silly, ignorant, foolish nonsense. The first Europeans to arrive in America were explorers. They were followed by colonists. There’s no such thing as immigrating to a region that has no organized, enforceable sovereign authority. Totally bogus. Some simpletons would have us believe that land ownership is established by merely standing on terrain.

You’re exactly right. And it’s frustrating to say the least that pro-unending mass immigration enthusiasts get mainstream media forums to spew forth this garbage.

Immigration is a very complex and far reach topic. I don’t think there is any single issue more important because immigration impacts and affects pretty much every top-tier issue. We should have a serious, rational debate about how much, if any, immigration we should allow. Instead we get morons like this uttering pure nonsense about how we’re all illegal aliens. It’s nothing but a cheap way to make people feel guilty for daring to oppose mass immigration.

Yeah, that means all countries in all of the Americas - not just “the USA” - are 100% full of illegal immigrants. Since even the Indians (and the Africans they may’ve killed off) migrated from somewhere.

I knew this had to be an idiot self-righteous “reader” as opposed to an editorialist, who usually have more decency in writing.

BTW, “melting pot” is what we USED to call it, Mr. PC. People were expected to meld in and adopt “American” ways, not insist on just being what they were from (having cake and eating it, too). PC bastards tell us we should have balkanization and as such, it should be a tossed salad.
