Obama, Romney, Other: Who Should Christians Vote for in the 2012 Election?
Providential Perspective - The Teaching Journal of The Providence Foundation ^ | September 2012 | Stephen McDowell

Posted on 10/10/2012 1:56:42 AM PDT by imardmd1

America is like a train going rapidly toward a cliff. The election of 2012 may determine if we fly off the precipice, or slow down enough to get the train turned around.

(snip)

So then, who should we vote for this November?

In regards to the upcoming presidential election, I have heard some Christians say they will not vote for Barack Obama since he clearly supports and promotes issues contrary to the Bible, like abortion and homosexual marriage. But, they say, they cannot vote for Mitt Romney because he is a Mormon, and they point out the unbiblical doctrines of Mormonism. Their choice then will be to vote for a third party candidate, write in a name,or not vote at all. Should this be the choice of Biblical thinking Christians?

It is very important whom we choose to govern us. When the righteous rule, the people will rejoice, but when the wicked govern they will groan (Prov. 29:2). Our nation’s welfare and stability—our continuance (or recovery) as a nation of liberty, justice, and prosperity—will be greatly affected by whom we choose to lead us.

To elect Godly leaders we need to know the qualities of a Godly leader, and here, as in all of life, the Bible provides a standard. In choosing those who govern, we must compare their qualifications to those that the Bible says are of most importance.

(snip)

As we shall see, Obama is also anti-life, supporting and promoting abortion consistently throughout his public life, is against the Biblical family, recently saying he supports same-sex marriage, and promotes public immorality. The conclusion is that, while a professing Christian, Obama shows little fruit of true Christian faith.

(snip)

Regarding his actions, Romney is pro-life and upholds the Biblical family, so in these two important matters, unlike Obama, he embraces the ideals of the Christian faith. Romney has also not shown hostility toward Christianity as has Obama.

(snip)

Under Obama’s fiscal and moral leadership, the train is heading toward the cliff at 100 miles per hour. In general, those who have led the nation in recent generations, both Democrats and Republicans, have been going the wrong way on the track headed toward the cliff. Some have slowed the train but what is needed is to turn the train around. There are those currently serving in government who want to do this, and have tried, but we need more servant leaders who adhere to the Biblical qualifications of Godly officials before this is possible.

Since slowing the train down will give us more time to prepare new leaders, Romney seems the best option at this time. In contrast to Obama, he also supports life and upholding the Biblical definition of marriage. Romney certainly does not meet all of the Biblical qualifications for Godly officials, but he comes closer to the standard than Obama. We cannot afford to continue down the wrong track at 100 miles per hour because the cliff is coming soon. Slowing the train to 20 miles per hour may give us time to awaken to our civil duties, and restore Godly leadership to the nation.

To those who say they cannot vote for either and will vote “other,” this is in reality a vote for the least Biblical guy. By your tacit consent, you are helping put the worst guy in office. At 100 miles per hour, I fear we cannot last long enough to restore America to its place as the most free, prosperous, virtuous, and just nation the world has ever seen.

It does not take much imagination to see how a false prophet can be far more destructive than a heathen king.

Psalm 40:4
Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

Since both Bishop Willard and Imam Barack have BOTH said they will support and arm the Al Queda centered Sryian resistance movement who are destroying and desecrating Orthodox, Catholic, Shiite, and Alawite churches and mosques, and slaughtering Christians, Shiites, and Alawites (and probably Jews), AGAINST President Assad (and Putin), who defend these populations, I have no choice but to vote for Gary Johnson.

America and NATO are on the side of Satan in this matter.

...”Then a voter instead should worry and fret about something abstract, like someone’s religious background?

Such a comparison does not pass the sanity check, which renders the entire article questionable and full of disconnects. “...

I totally agree.

This comparison makes little sense.

The article makes little sense to one whose life is not guided by Christian principle, by the commands of The Christ, who is surrendered to Him.

Such a comparison does not pass the sanity check, which renders the entire article questionable and full of disconnects.

The thrust of the whole article is completely sensible and seamless to the spiritual man who thinks like Christ thinks; but sounds like the voice of a fool to the natural man, a child of disobedience, in whom the god of this has blinded the minds of them which believe not, and thus seems to be full of disconnects.

Suggestions:

(1) Read and think through the title of the article. It is of, by, and for Christians, not other.
(2) Read 1 Cor. 2:5,7,9,13,14,16
(3) Then Eph. 2:2-3
(4) Following that, 2 Cor. 4:3-6
(5) Cogitate on what you have said vs. what the Holy Ghost says about one's mindset and guiding master.

Respectfully --

This is a stupid argument. My vote represents me and what I believe. A vote for "other" is not a vote for Obama, no matter what people say.

This is utter tripe. If I decide that I can't vote for Obama (for obvious reasons) or Romney due to his forty-year history of supporting the holocaust of the unborn in this country, how is voting for someone who would uphold Christian principles 'in reality' a vote for anything but Christian principles?

If you will, this is the typical ABO 'vote libel'.

Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, atheists, regardless of your religious beliefs or lack there of, a vote for Obama is a vote for incompetence. Romney may be the devil we don't know but he will be an able one.

This is a stupid argument.

Maybe, but there much better ones.

My vote represents me and what I believe.

Which is letting Obama win.

A vote for "other" is not a vote for Obama, no matter what people say.

Here's a better argument:

It's not a vote against him either...no matter what you say.

I suspect many of the Christians having reservations about Romney out of a belief that Mormons place the Book of Mormon on the same level as scripture have never compared the differences between the Protestant bible, Catholic bible and Eastern Orthodox bible.

It is in the sense that it will not help remove Obama from office. This race is clearly between Romney and Obama. There is no chance that anyone will even come close to winning the election so casting your vote for another candidate is like voting for Obama in that it will not remove him from office. He is depending on people like yourself not to vote for Romney.

Incorrect. We do not live in a democracy.

A vote for "other" is not a vote for Obama, no matter what people say.

If a non-vote for Romney is a vote for Obama, then my non-vote for Obama must be a vote for Romney. With those cancelling each other out, I'm left to conclude that my non-vote is a non-vote.

I didn't even have to consider religion before deciding to leave the Presidential line blank (or vote for third-party candidate). I'm not voting for either liberal with their big-government solutions to problems. Because of their political records, I wouldn't vote for either man even if he made a sincere acceptance of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

It is cowardice of the worst form

How is it political cowardice to take a principled stand knowing that it will lead to ridicule and belittlement? You can disagree with the reasoning of those who won't vote for Romney but you call it cowardice.

But, they say, they cannot vote for Mitt Romney because he is a Mormon

This author presents a straw man argument with a false choice between radical liberal Barack Obama, and strong conservative Mitt Romney, who, except for being Mormon, would be acceptable to reasonable people.

I have never rejected Mitt Romney because he is Mormon. I know some who have that as one of the points against Romney, but they are not the majority.

I can't vote for Romney because I don't believe in his pro-life transformation, especially after he RECENTLY came out in favor of abortion in cases of "health" of the mother in ADDITION TO "life" of the mother. A headache is a "health" issue. Terminal cancer treatment is a "life" issue.

Nor do I like that he came out in April in favor of gay couples, and gay couples being able to adopt, and gay leaders able to guide Boy Scout troops, and gay citizens being able to openly practice in the military.

Nor did I support his statement that bi-partisan gun legislation is the kind of gun legislation he likes.

Now, I really don't like coming to this discussion any more. I do believe that I have both a very dangerous enemy and a lesser dangerous enemy. I am content to fire away at Obama and withhold fire from Romney until after the election. He, too, even though my enemy, is firing at my greater enemy, Barack Obama.

I'll renew my attacks on Romney after the election. However, he will not receive my vote. I will not vote for my enemy, any more than Churchill would have put Stalin on his personal staff, any more than Bush would have given command of US forces Afghanistan to Mullah Omar while Bush was concentrating on Saddam and Iraq.

Same here. Funny thing is that people who were calling Romney a cultist or magical underwear worshiper 6 months ago are now calling anyone who doesn't support Romney, a bigot.

All I've got to say to those people is "good luck hiding in God's blind spot. I'm sure he's too busy to notice your dishonesty".

knowing that it will lead to ridicule and belittlement?

If a soldier acts cowardly in battle, they know they will face ridicule and belittlement, but that does not magically make them brave, because they choose to face that.
