Global Food Crisis Risk Is Soaring [MAP]>

Joshua Berlinger
October 10,2012

The global risk analysis firm Maplecroft has released its food security index for 2013, along with a map that highlights which the food security of individual states.

Africa is clearly the most afflicted, with six of the seven states at "extreme risk." Afghanistan was the only nation outside of Africa at extreme risk. Only two countries lacked sufficient data to be analyzed.

Spiking food prices could have catastrophic consequences. "Forecasts for 2013 provide a worrying picture,” Maplecroft’s Head of Maps and Indices Helen Hodge added. “Although a food crisis has not emerged yet, there is potential for food related upheaval across the most vulnerable regions, including sub-Saharan Africa.”

The report added that food insecurity could also become yet another factor fueling the already tense relations and civil unrest in the Middle East.

At the current rate, Rabobank— a financial specialist in agro-commodities — estimates that prices of food staples could rise by as much as 15 percent by June 2013.

Here's the map:

Crisis seems to be manufactured to increase prices a lot nowadays.

high food prices have been cited as a factor behind mass protest movements. But can food prices actually help predict when social unrest is likely to break out?

Why is New Zealand in the medium to high risk category?

As an aside, notice that almost all the low risk categories are anglo saxon type countries which have their laws based on traditional Christianity?

Hmmmmmm, coincidence?

Interesting that the most bass-akwards nations are the most affected... hmmm...

But lets get back to the nitty-gritty: There is more than enough food produced every year to feed every man, woman, and child on this earth. But for some, they cannot afford it (a problem growing worse because of socialism-induced inflation).

And to throw more stupidity onto the fire - we burn our food in our gas tanks!!! Insanity that helps no-one but big agriculture and politicians.

If the yahoo lefties are so steamed up and misty-eyed about all the hungry folks in the world - then let them SPEND THEIR OWN MONEY and buy up the surplus food/grain that goes to waste every year (including the stuff that both Asia and Europe keep rejecting from the US because it is bio-engineered) and ship it to the poorest of nations.

Oh - that’s right - they want US to spend OUR money, and to push our own economy and civilization back into the stone age for the sake of those “poor around the world”...

So all the money we've been collecting and sending to Africa since I was in the first grade, to help the poor starving African children, have done absolutely nothing.

Correction, they beat back Leprosy, now there is AIDS instead.
The food situation has not changed in 50 years.

Thankfully I have no shortage of squirrels and rabbits running around my yard and a nice pellet gun to take ‘em down with.

Actually I wasn't wearing my glasses, but I can't use that as an excuse.

I actually meant Papua New Guinea.

That is Papau New Guinea (east) and Irian Jaya (west). NZ is east of the Australian, not north.
