For 2012 thus far, repubs have requested 656,813 ballots and dems 627,064 ballots. We have an abolute lead of about 30,000 in ballot requests. Plus add in the independent requests (don't have that number) and we are quickly approaching total turnout for 08 and probably past all the early voting for 08. I need the number of unaffiliated requests to confirm this.
As of 10/1/12, there were 871,000 registered republicans and 807,000 registered dems and 798,000 unaffiliateds. So 657,000 republicans have requested ballots (75% of republicans are already locked in) and 627,000 dems have requested ballots (77% of dems locked in).
By the end of voter registration in 2008, republicans only had a lead of 12,000 compared to dems. They had caught up to us bigtime in registration then. After that they requested even more ballots than we did in 08 and ended up actually leading us in early voters which was pretty impressive for them by 2%. And of course unaffiliated went for Obama then and you had the makings of a 9 point win for him.
Fast forward to today. We have a much greater registration advantage compared to 2008. It is 64,000 not 12,000 and it was as high as 100,000 during the summer but nonetheless still much greater than 2008. And we are keeping pace with the ballot requests with dems and actually leading them in actual totals even though our percentage is slightly less.
At the close of registration in 08, 3.2 million registered voters and 2.4 million of those voted. That is a turnout of about 75% of registered voters.
Now we have 2.5 million voters on the rolls as of 10/1/12 and the deadline for registration was yesterday. And we are already at 75% of republicans having ballots and 77% of dems having ballots - I think this election is pretty much done. Not many more voters to vote overall. And we know unaffiliateds here in CO are different this year compared to 2008. All we needed to do was make sure republicans vote and they have in spades.

There is one county in Colorado that had a 110% voter turnout.
I voted absentee in 2010.
I am not voting to put a white Obama in the White House. I cannot stand the liberal Mitt Happens and am not voting for him.
I won’t stand in any one else’s way but I can’t vote for a candidate with no integrity, principles or beliefs.
That said, I wish fellow Coloradans and Americans the best both in early voting in my state and in November.

We’re supposed to get our ballots by the 15th. We’ll no doubt mail them in the next day.
I absentee/early voted once or twice, but I now make sure I show up on election day, and my son does the same. We go in first thing in the morning, then head for a nice breakfast.
Based on your data analysis of CO and assuming Romney has a 5 point lead among Indies (is that what you’re assuming?), and assuming you think we’ll pick up more crossovers and have slightly higher enthusiasm, what is your best guess at the margin of victory for Romney in CO? Thanks in advance for all your hard work, I am learning a lot!
My calculations say Romney by 100,000-150,000 votes (4-6 points)....
