Posted on 10/10/2012 6:07:06 PM PDT by lowbridge
A congressional oversight panel wants to know when the Obama administration became aware of significant technological issues at a renewable energy company it helped fund, including the propensity of its solar panels to burst into flames when exposed to the sun.
Abound Solar Manufacturing was awarded a $400 million line-of-credit in taxpayer-backed loans from the Energy Department (DOE), and is the third company funded by President Barack Obamas stimulus plan to go bankrupt, along with Solyndra and Beacon Power.
Republican Reps. Fred Upton of Michigan, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, along with Cliff Stearns of Florida and Cory Gardner of Colorado, sent a letter to Energy Secretary Steven Chu on Wednesday instructing the agency to turn over certain information on the loan.

Isn’t that what they are supposed to do?
Yes indeed. They are designed to provide the home owner(s) enough electricity for the rest of their lives.
(however short that may be)
Hopefully Obama and thugs will all be gone come January then the committee will get it.
The design is sound, it just needs a little tweaking. Another $400 billion should do it.
A single panel might be an amp or two or three. They must be talking about some kind of bussbar situation with enough amperage to do something dramatic.
Obama finds a way to improve the housing market and everyone complains...
Solar panels that catch on fire.....cars that catch on fire....this President is a pyromaniac.
He golfs while Rome burns.
Most panels are 30 volt at 7 to 8 amps.
I got 60 of them so I wanna know more !
Wait...do the panels themselves burst into flames, or does the balance sheet of the company that makes them burst into flames?
“...this President is a pyromaniac.”
You can’t say that! That comment is flamist!
You forgot to mention Embassies.
This is the funniest thing I’ve read all day.

***The design is sound, it just needs a little tweaking. Another $400 billion should do it.***
Reminds me of an old movie THE ADVENTURES OF MARK TWAIN in which he is talked into financing a new “printing” press which ate up all his money. “A few more thou$and should do it!”
You are correct; I was confusing a smaller portable panel I have with a couple of larger panels mounted on my truck. The larger panels are rated at 7.5 amps each and measure about 23 volts at full exposure.
Even cooks can do that math.
Solar panels are dangerous like gasoline is dangerous. Know what they can do, don't tease the tiger, and everything is good. Get stupid, and your world turns to crap.
Now take a battery bank of 1,250 amp hours and short it and you have some flame potential.
Instead of attacking the basic changes in energy supply created by this regime which are directly contributing to the recipients dependency on whatever the regime is handing out ,by design.
Too many pundits drawn from their limited personal immediate surrounding and life style are attacking the recipients with condemnation for using what a one time was termed relief .They are demonstrating they havent a clue what a retiree on a fixed income or even those out of work are going through at this time. And thats the problem.
You have a regime which by design is driving up the costs and uses of energy the most a basic resource because it suits its socialist matrix. Whats even worse is the massive corrpution resulting from that regime doling out tons of funds towards its campaign donners for so called alternate forms which dont work or are laughingly inefficient . Thats getting a pass even by the Romney campaign and a huge mistake because this policy affects everyone. It is a bread a butter issue.
Being labeled a “flamist” really burns me up!
Some people pick winners, and other pick losers.
Mr. Resident you pick losers.
I simply love watching hopes implode and dreams crash.
Yep. But that’s why it’s a team effort on Free Republic.
Good one! I missed his likeness to Nero.
I have seen an injury from a single miswired panel (not me, another idiot).
I lived off-grid in the mountains for over a year with a bank of batteries and some solar panels for 'lektrikity.
What company makes 385w panels at 24 volts?
On the serious side...
“Also not expected to affect solar panel production was a fire at the factory about 6 a.m. on New Years Day, in a single piece of line machinery which was largely extinguished before firefighters from the Mountain View Fire Protections District arrived on the scene.
However, because the deposition material, cadmium telluride, is toxic, 11 workers and four firefighters were sent to Longmont United Hospital for evaluation.”
So, who is going to pick up the tab for the toxic waste disposal at their abandoned factory? I’ll bet it will be the taxpayers.....
To #24” No, you are not a “flamist”.
The President is a Flaming Idiot.
There. Rest easy blueunicorno.

Well, the solution is so simple, I'm amazed nobody has thought of it.
