Be Afraid (Oliver North on Afghanistan)

WARDAK PROVINCE, Afghanistan — "If you leave here like you left Iraq, I am a dead man," says the blunt-speaking district governor. His district chief of police, a newly appointed civil judge and the chief of the Afghan Local Police detachment all nod their heads in assent. None of them is smiling.

We are reminded by the commander of the special operations unit with whom we are living not to broadcast names or faces of Afghan security force personnel. The local district governor is speaking through an interpreter. He doesn't pull any punches: "You must not abandon us again. You helped us expel the Soviets and then left us to the Taliban and al-Qaida. Look what happened to you. When you came back, we put our lives and our families at risk because you told us you would help us rebuild our country. But now you are leaving before the job is done. We have enemies to our east and west. They are your enemies, as well. But your deadline means we are dead."

It's a familiar refrain throughout this trip to Afghanistan. Over the past two weeks, we have heard similar messages from Afghan officials and police chiefs in Kandahar, Kabul, Helmand, Zabul and Wardak provinces. At every location, the story is basically the same: "The Americans left Iraq. Now they are leaving Afghanistan."

For people here, evidence of the just-completed drawdown is ubiquitous. When the "fighting season" began this spring, there were more than 100,000 U.S. military personnel deployed on bases around the country. The withdrawal of 33,000 U.S. surge troops — leaving fewer than 68,000 American soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines on the ground — means scores of these outposts now are manned by Afghan forces or simply abandoned.

Their rules of engagement are also a major problem. There have been calls about changing them so they CAN fight. A new thread this morning is worth reading...

True that. My grunt son says the tribal leaders have their boy sex-pets, and there is some kind of man on man every Thursday.

Something needs to be done before the blood on Obama’s hands effects his grip.

Thanks for linking that, I read his letter it is definitely a must read. Colonel Tunnell should have been commended for speaking out and promoted instead of being denigrated by our brass.

Well, Obama did tell the Egyptian ambassador in January of 2010 that the Muslim world needed to be patient with him because once he got Obamacare crammed down our throats he would turn his attention to the Muslim agenda, which he supports because he was and still is a Muslim. (Probably why the ring he has worn on his left hand since long before he even met Michelle is inscribed with the Arabic words for “There is no God but Allah”...)

The agenda every sect of Islam agrees on is the destruction of the US and Israel and the institution of worldwide sharia. Everything Obama has done makes sense when you realize those are the 2 goals he’s been bought and paid to accomplish.

Four years ago, when Obama’s law enforcement “truth squads” were out in Missouri, the 2 things they were determined to keep anybody from being able to say were that Obama would raise taxes and that Obama is Muslim.

The truth hurts. Obama never wants the truth to be known.

We’ve been in country, in force for over 10 years. At some point, these Afghani leaders have to step up and take responsibility for themselves and their people, not just keep depending on the US to defend them, or to do the job of building their country.

How long do the Afghans need to bring themselves into the 19th, 20th or 21st Century?

Not using all the firepower at our means was treasonous. And if we continue to half assed fight this “war on terror”, we’ll be “fighting” it forever.

We have been fighting half assed since Korea. We won WW2 by using everything in our arsenal. Since 1945 we have been half stepping and generations of our bravest have paid the price....which is why we see so many faggotty punks on our streets now, the goods ones were killed off.

I swear I am of the mind to vote for odumbi, because if he wins the chances that the muzzies will get nuked by an Israel that feels cornered and without a friend .....are greatly increased.

I thought about this (for about 10 seconds). Then I took a look at a map of the mideast, did a little inventory of what we’d be up against, in my humble little civilian mind.

Well, there’s Iraq. I was alive and awake then (both times) and hmmm.. I remember the news guys were going on and on about this 1/2 million + military of Iraq. They had missiles. They had the republican guard. They were the baddest since Attila the Hun.

It was all over but the clapping in a few weeks.

I can only conclude that us news media customers are being fed loads of manure.

While I myself never served, of course we all have relatives who have, we’ve all heard countless stories of who things work. Since I had to register for the draft as a kid, I thought about war over the years. Thank God for Ronald Reagan, I never found myself being drafted into a world war brought on by decades of military weakness and increasing spending on social programs. But believe me, in 1979 I was concerned. By the time I was out of HS, Reagan had started kicking ass and taking names, so, God Bless President Reagan, I not only had an ROTC scholarship but also a lot of other options in front of me. I had gone to a weeklong engineering seminar, kind of a school “demo” at the Naval Academy, and being the wiseapple that I was, I got exposed to cadet life, a little overexposed, when a few of us snuck out for a little R&R in town. But I digress.

What I have managed to figure out is that war is one part of life that is awful and there is no way to make it not awful. It is what it is. From time to time, another country will attack, and war is what is needed to exact retribution on the attacker. People completely misunderstand the word “glory” and how it is applied to war. By referring to the glory of war, we are not saying that war is not painful. The glory of war has to do with the triumph of good over evil - in spite of adversity. If we think of ourselves seeing an evil guy beating one of our family or friends, and ourselves charging in and beating the attacker to save our friend, we have a better understanding.

The far left spews nothing but lies because that is actually a tactic of war: get your enemy to give up. They try to spread the idea that war is inherently bad and should be avoided at all costs. That is an evil idea. They would have us not defend ourselves, our families, our countrymen.

We are not the aggressor. Someone can tell me that lie for 1,000 years and it will go in one ear and out the other. I have heard all the old stories from firsthand accounts. We are the good guy.

If we simply made treason illegal, deported all muslims and prevented them from entering, and adopted a simple policy of annihilate, extract spoils and return home, the world would be a much more harmonious and peaceful place. The world would get very good at predicting the consequences of their own actions.

IMHO. Thanks for your service.

I agree 100 percent.

Let me hear your opinion on this. If odumbi is elected, I predict that Israel will attack in a much more fierce and un-PC manner, there will be much more collateral damage and nukes WILL BE USED. (Davy Crockett types).

If Mitt wins, Israel will show some restraint and the U.S. will by drawn into it and we will lose men needlessly and Iran and islum will continue with little more than a black eye....meaning a bunch of Iranian ships and planes and oil refineries and underground labs will be pillars of black smoke.....but the threat will just Metastate to other moslum countries.
