How to answer pollsters?
Vanity ^ | 10/12/12 | self

What is the best way to answer pollsters? I'm in a swing state and receive plenty of calls.

Is it better to be a Dem who is disappointed in Obama and planning to vote for Romney? Or vice versa? Or to just be honest?

Fun to play "operation chaos" but what would be the better strategy?

I have had callers claiming to be pollsters, but, being the paranoid that I am, ultimately, I have no idea who is REALLY calling.
Maybe it’s a potential burglar, trying to find out when/if I’m home? Maybe it’s someone from my job, trying to find out who I’m voting for, for God knows what reason? Or, maybe it IS a pollster, but they’re using prison-labor to make the calls?
So, I just hang up on ‘em.

Scream and hang up.

If you want to cause them maximum pain, answer the phone, say hello and when the first question comes say you refuse to cooperate. Hang up.

There is no way for them correct for bias in samples that return null information. It absolutely kills their claim of accuracy.

Either decline to participate or fall back on what your Mom and Dad should have explained to you about honesty.

This shouldn’t be a hard question.

I’ve gotten two polling calls in the last two days. I’m guessing they think Pennsylvania is close. In tonight’s poll, I was a young black female Muslim who is disappointed in how Obama is running the economy.

Yep, I'm in PA and I've gotten too many polling calls to remember.

Tonight I was a 44 year old, divorced, mother of 2 latina that voted for obama in 08 but am now voting for Romney.

I lie every time that the poll is automated.

I'm not sure about strategery, but it feels good to mess with them.

You would be an instant hit if you would publish a list of who polled you,why they chose you, and what they asked.

they probably know your registration but if not, state democrat voting for Romney.

Chances are they don't know your registration. It's possible to cross reference that information, but they don't have time. Polling is very expensive, and they can't afford to slow down to look up details.

If we count signs and bumperstickers, this state is firmly Romney/Ryan. Of course, I don’t live in Dane County where, I’m sure, the sign distribution would be the opposite of the area where you were driving. I live in the area where you traveled — north of Milwaukee — and I know of 6 Obama signs in the neighborhoods, even though my house is 2 miles from the Obama headquarters in Cedarburg. Those signs are all on houses that favored the Walker recall. It is far different from 2008 where Obama signs were everywhere.

I pulled the plug, they cannot reach me even if they believed in telepathy. Phone is restricted and screened.

That is similar to my voting strategy, although I never do polls: I am voting for the one who knows what our Constitution means to us and the world.
