Talker Rusty Humphries moves up in radio world(Going up against Hannity starting Monday)
World Net Daily ^ | 10/11/12 | Kathy Shaidle

Starting Monday, Oct. 15, Humphries’ program – the 8th largest syndicated talk show in America – moves to afternoon drive, to be heard on a total of 285 stations across the country.

The move is part of the shakeup that occurred after Michael Savage’s successful lawsuit against his long-time syndication company made him a “free agent.”

Finally able to get out of his contract, Savage departed the airwaves earlier this month. While he hints that he’ll be back on terrestrial radio “within the next two weeks,” his sudden departure prompted Talk Radio Network to move Jerry Doyle into Savage’s old evening timeslot.

In turn, that move led to TRN’s Rusty Humphries taking over Doyle’s afternoon drive-time position from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern.

Mark Masters, CEO of TRN Enterprises, added: “Rusty’s expertise on foreign policy and military affairs is among the best of any national broadcaster. When he offers commentary, it is backed with real-life experience straight from the front lines. I congratulate Rusty on his move from the 8th largest show to the 6th largest show in America.”

Starting Monday afternoon, when commuters turn on their radios after a long, hard day at work, what can they expect to hear on Humphries’ show?

“My show may have a little more of a faster feel than my longtime listeners may be used to,” Humphries told WND.

As well, Humphries explained, it will now be a lot easier for him to get “big name guests” to come on during the afternoon than it was before.

Good Hanity is grossly overrated, and irritating, Cant listen to him, talks over his own interviews.... He's a mess on radio. Good hair for tv.

I agree about Hannity! He just whines and whines and whines. Kimda wears you out. Is this Humphries guy any good?

Awesome! Hannity lost me a long time ago. Will be great to see him with some competition!

Hannity has his place. He’s good at communicating with Joe & Jane Sixpack, who aren’t necessarily an informed FReeper crowd. I can’t listen to him (TV or radio), but recognize his general usefulness.

Hannity is the most over rated show on radio. He’s an uninformed cheerleader. His attempts at humor always fail and his Clinton impressions make my skin crawl.

This is great news. I am happy for Rusty, I hope he brings his whole crew with him from WGST.

Rusty is fantastic! This makes my day...Hannity is good but Rusty is second only to the Big Kahuna. In fact I think Rush was instrumental in Rusty's career, if I am not mistaken. Rusty is definitely up to date and a thinking person's voice.
This will be a good move! Congrats Rusty.

Good move by TRN to give Rusty the 3-6P Eastern slot. He will take away a lot of Hannity’s audience

Hopefully an affiliate in my are will pick up his 3P show.

Rusty was one of the few to honestly discuss the Obama Eligibility/Birth Certificate issue. (Not sure if he still does, as we lost him in the Orlando area last year...even though the local affiliate was once his flagship station) Unlike many of the other so-called “conservative” talkers...Rusty did not become Obama Supporter on the Eligibility/Birther issue...actually covered the issue.

He also is not afraid to go after Muslims and Islam, too.

Surprised that he did not get the old Savage slot...but the 3-6P is actually radio prime-time...and Rusty can bring in an audience against Hannity

Hannity....endlessly self promoting, sucks up to his liberal "good friends", content per hour of airtime almost zero.

Savage....the Debbie Downer of talk hosts. Why more of his listeners haven't clamped their lips on a tailpipe I don't know.

Humphries and Doyle are light years better than both.

Even if Hannity's heart is in the right place, I just can't listen to him either.

Humphries is good and is the best interviewer I have ever heard. I listened to Humphries on WGST until they suddenly swapped formats to Spanish Sports. What station are we going to find him on here in the ATL?

Mr. Garibaldi! - I love that guy.

Jerry Doyle’s personality is definitely worth listening to.

I haven’t listened to Hannity since before the 2004 elections.

Every day, same ole guests, same ole topics, same ole positions. Three hours a day, every day.

In 2008, I tuned in his FoxNews program. I thought they were running an archive of his program from the previous election, because everything was the same ole. It wasn’t from the archive; it was live.

This is good. I am down to two talk show hosts I can stand (Lars Larsen and Mike Gallaher) and it would be nice to have a third one. I used to listen to Mr. Humphries on satellite radio and thought he was a knowledgeable, unconceited fellow—unlike most of those I have excluded.

I think my main national radio host will remain Rusty Sharp.

Here in WI, Vicki Mckenna (WIBA-Madison) and Mark Belling (WISN-Milwaukee) provide superior afternoon drive time coverage. McKenna has the chops to go national.

We have a local host that comes on at 3:00pm Mountain Time - Jim Villanucci - that cuts off the last hour of Hannity.

Jim has decided that New Mexico is not in play and is shamelessly shilling for Gary Johnson. If Johnson can get 5% of the national vote (not bloody likely) then he will get matching funds in 2016 and REALLY have a chance - at least in the fantasy land that Jimbo lives in.

Villanucci is sort-of Libertarian, but it becomes painfully obvious after listening to just a few shows that what Jim is REALLY focused on is the War on Drugs. Considering his past history with addiction, it is sad that he so blatantly supports someone who wants to make drug use legal.

Unfortunately the other conservative talk station in the market puts Whoraldo on opposite Jim. Since they are both owned by the same company, I think they did it to boost Villanucci’s numbers.

Makes me long for the good old days of Steve Kane in South Florida...

Used to listen to Humphries when he was in Reno. Sounded like a young Rush Limbaugh.

Haven’t heard him since he went national...hopefully he still has fire in his belly.
