Skip to comments.Joe Biden Unhinged [not the man the media built....up]
Posted on 10/12/2012 2:00:29 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife
As I observed the words and demeanor of Vice President Joe Biden all throughout last nights debate a line from Hamlet kept running through my mind.
That one may smile, and smile, and be a villain, William Shakespeare wrote. How better to sum up the most unctuous, disingenuous vice president in this writers lifetime?
The radical left-wing Delawarean showed the same loathsome traits that he displayed during his debate with Sarah Palin four years ago. But this time, because he wasnt facing a woman he wasnt walking on eggshells, terrified of offending female voters. This allowed his worst characteristics to rise to the surface, unburdened by natural inhibitions.
While his opponent, Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) was relatively relaxed, Biden was everyones obnoxious, overbearing, opinionated relative who makes up for the weakness of his arguments by making them loudly. As conservative comedian Brian Sack tweeted, the debate was Too Chill Boy vs. Obnoxious Grandaddy.
Throughout the debate Biden made no attempt to conceal his contempt for Ryan. It is hard to say if Biden showed greater disdain for his adversary than President Obama showed for Mitt Romney in the Colorado conversation last week.
Some observers, buoyed by impossibly high expectations, were destined to be disappointed unless Ryan landed a devastating knockout. Ryan did well but such a punch never came. A knockout always seemed unlikely because Biden is so well known for exaggerating, telling tall tales, and saying downright absurd things.
The vice president knows sometimes the words dont come out of your mouth the right way, Ryan said.
Even though Ryan clearly seemed to be feeling the pressure, he wasnt cowed by Biden. He taunted the vice president, noting that Biden is under a lot of duress to make up for lost ground after Romney pulverized Obama during the debate last week.
Ryan lamented that hope and change had been replaced by attack, blame, and defame.
President Obama had his chance, Ryan said. He made his choices.
Ryan rejected the fundamental transformation of America sought by Obama. We will not try to replace our founding principles, Ryan said. We will reapply our founding principles. Although much younger than Biden, Ryan was the only adult sitting at the table.
One thing is for sure: both Obama and Biden are hardcore haters whose self-esteem exceeds their actual abilities.
Last night the senescent Biden resented being taken on by the sometimes brash, young, handsome, genuinely brilliant lawmaker from Wisconsin.
Never before was so much pricey dental porcelain displayed on live television as the unstatesmanlike Biden, chuckled, mocked, and guffawed his way through the 90-minute encounter. His constant, obnoxious interruptions were tolerated by the moderator, left-wing journalist Martha Raddatz, who frequently challenged Ryan, demanding specifics from the challenger. Raddatz asked little of Biden.
Barely a word of truth escaped the vice presidents lips.
Biden threw the intelligence community under the bus in order to support the Obama administrations ongoing coverup of the September 11, 2012, terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. From the start the administration portrayed the assault as a spontaneous uprising sparked by anger over an anti-Islam video. For two weeks officials tried to pretend that terrorists werent involved.
In the debate Biden said intelligence agencies failed to do their jobs and fed the White House bad information.
The administration didnt initially know the attack was instigated by terrorists and hadnt received requests from officials for additional security, Biden said, lying on both counts. Evidence now establishes that the administration learned about the attack before it happened. There is also proof that the late Ambassador Chris Stevens, believing he was marked for death by terrorists, pleaded with the administration to provide additional security. Each day brings new revelations of administration malfeasance in the sorry affair.
Biden dramatically swore to find the killers. We will track you to the gates of Hell, he vowed.
Ryan countered that what happened in Benghazi was proof of the unravelling of Obamas foreign policy of weakness and appeasement. Obama has refused to admit that the Islamic world hasnt abandoned its hostility to the U.S. That would conflict with his messianic narrative in which diverse peoples across the planet are united and inspired by the president.
Romneys controversial criticism of the Obama administrations condemnation of an anti-Muslim video nobody saw and that apparently played no role in the Benghazi attack was admirable, Ryan explained.
Its never too early to speak up for our values, Ryan said,
The best Biden could do was to note that left-wing journalists agreed that Romney should have kept his mouth shut. Romneys criticism of Obamas apology for the video was panned by the media all around the world.
Biden said that Syria was five times larger than Libya. As Newt Gingrich tweeted, Biden was absurdly and totally wrong. Libya, a huge North African country, is 679,362 square miles compared to Syria which is merely 71,500 square miles in size.
Biden condemned super PACs as abominations even though the Obama-Biden team uses them enthusiastically. Priorities USA Action super PAC unleashed the Joe Soptic ad, probably the most dishonest and certainly the most vicious presidential campaign ad since Lyndon Johnsons apocalyptic Daisy ad in 1964 painted Barry Goldwater as a budding Dr. Strangelove.
The ad features Soptic explaining directly to the camera how his wife died after Bain Capital, the firm Romney once ran, bought the steel company he worked for and dissolved it. Soptic blames Romney for the loss of his health insurance and subsequent death of his wife.
The Soptic ad was funded by the super PACs donors. Among those donors are the alleged comedian Bill Maher and the Service Employees International Union.
Biden invoked class warfare too many times to count and blamed Republicans for the nations ballooning debt levels. He said Democrats had saved Medicare by cutting $700-odd billion from the program, a lie Ryan nailed him on. Democrats got caught with their hands in the cookie jar, taking the $700 billion and using it to fund Obamacare, Ryan said. If the cuts arent reversed Medicare patients will have a much harder time getting seen by doctors.
It wasnt so much a debate as an argument between a mature person and a toddler.
Clint Eastwood seems to understand what a nonentity Biden is.
During his surprise appearance at the Republican convention in Florida, Eastwood seemed to share my frame of mind about the Cheshire Cat temporarily residing in the U.S. Naval Observatory.
In his extemporaneous riff before an empty chair representing the empty suit that is Barack Obama, Eastwood said, Youre getting as bad as Biden. Of course we all know Biden is the intellect of the Democratic Party. Just kind of a grin with a body behind it.
The more Joe Biden smiles, the more voters realize hes not the man the media built him up to be.
VP Joe was fairly animated...acting like your goofy Uncle who comes over and sips a six-pack of beer from your fridge, while discussing NHL stikes, WW II, Mickey Mantle, and taxes. I would say this...if we were playing the drinking game last night and the key for the game was VP Joe interrupting Ryan....I would have been fairly drunk by the 30th minute.
I’d like to suggest this....if Romney wins....he ought to go ahead and hire VP Joe to be on his staff as an adviser. It wouldn’t mean we have to take Joe serious, but it’d be entertaining to have him around to pass the slow afternoons.
There will be NO slow afternoons in the Romney-Ryan administration!
Disagree....there is NOTHING funny about Joe Biden. He is a MEAN ASS UNION THUG.
Empty cackling is not a great debate strategy.
Biden is a fool. The intelligence and diplomatic communities have been leaking information to the news media and Congress daily because they're so appalled at the disinformation coming from the White House. Biden threw gasoline on that fire tonight.
Joe “Honey Boo-Boo” Biden...Cutest VP EVER!
I hope the swing voters felt the same as I did......
Weekly Standards Mark Hemingway: Joe Bidens laughing through talking about Iran sanctions?
Washington Examiners Philip Klein: Bidens strategy seems to be to laugh at Ryan constantly. Will it work to infantalize Ryan, or backfire like Gore sighing?

Townhall.coms Guy Benson: Will Biden laugh his ass off at the terrible economy, too?

PBS Jeff Greenfield: Biden has always had a smile that at times is really, really inappropriate.
Washington Examiners Paul Bedard: Cant tell yet if Bidens smirking, laughs, eye-rolling, head shaking, works for him or not against the oh-so-young looking eager Ryan.

I watched about 2 mins and couldn’t take it anymore.
I’m waiting for the comparisons of Biden’s smiling & laughing to Gore’s sighing thru his debate.
Thanks ETL. That’s a good list of the way others have seen Biden.
“VP Joe was fairly animated...acting like your goofy Uncle...”
If I had an uncle that insane, I would have him confined to a rubber room with no sharp onjects so he couldn’t hurt himself. The man was positively manic. I half expected him to eat a fly. He acted ike he was on laughing gas. Benghazi was hilarious. Iran getting a nuke was hilarious. Four dead Americans were hilarious. biden was nothing more than an overbearing, over-exaggerated court jester last night.
That’s because he plagiarized what he said.
The more I read the Live twitter feeds archive of the debate the more I am looking into Hitler weighing in on Joe's Debate performance on youtube.
In the alternative universe of the world of the main stream media’s mind Joe Biden may have won the debate, but, in the world of public opinion Joe Biden came off as a total jerk,, therefore he lost in the world of public opinion.
Who even laughs that much during a serious discussion in front of millions? And he is really laughing; it is not a feigned smile by any means....I think people are tired of the two buffoons “running” the country; even Obama thinks he is an f****** comedian with his JesseJacksonesque-like one-liners and quips.
And just what every hard working or job hunting American wants to see after another day of trying to make ends meet, pay their bills and survive....a haughty, pretentious, insolent windbag who’s pearly whites were bought and paid for using his tax payer funded dental plan- and whose sheer arrogance and contempt was stunningly on display to anyone with half a brain—
It is just remarkable and beyond disgusting that this man and the rest of the crew have been allowed to “represent” us-they need to administer an IQ test and psych testing before you’re allowed to run for office...
Rant over- :)
“... couldn’t take Biden’s antics anymore ... ‘intimidation by laughter’...”
This was exactly my experience as well although I didn’t even last 45 minutes. That laughter/smirk was intended to intimidate and discredit Ryan - it was hostile, thoroughly condescending, and Biden was using it to try to bully Ryan. It was an attempt by the dems to use the same tactic of ridicule that they used against Palin - it did not work - of course and backfired! Thank God!! It was a sadistic smile and we as the audience were supposed to follow the bully’s lead and psychologically join in the “attack” and contempt. It was Biden’s Lord of the Flies moment.
Again - it did NOT work and he appeared to be smirking and laughing at the issues instead.
Debates are partly about substance. But the problem is biteme came off as such a jerk that people were tuning out what he had to say. I turned it off after about 30 min.
Could we have been watching a VP that was simply was “cracking up” under the weight of the “pressures” of being VP?
I am simply is surprised that we did not see a nice group of folks bringing the VP a nice clean white jacket to put on VP Biden last night.
The only “real” adult sitting at the table was Rep. Ryan. Rep. Ryan WON.
Can someone do a poster of “Biden Gone Wild” using the Girls Gone Wild approach?
I had watched online my United States of America “die” before my very eyes and the VP Joe Biden thinks its “funny?”
You lasted 5 more minutes than I did.

This morning I stopped by the Au Bon Pain in Union Station (DC) for my breakfast and the lady working there (one of Holder’s people) was asking everyone about the debate. “Did you see our Vice President put that little boy in his place?”
biden is an ass clown... no one called him VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN... they are all referring to the clown... good old joe... even those that are firmly worshiping these two ass clowns.
What? She didn’t call Paul Ryan a “bow-tied white boy?”
“Brit Hume made that comparison 2 minutes after the debate ended”
Glad to hear it. Now, they should keep repeating it and the GOP should start the, “I’m Not Laughing, Joe” campaign.
And who the hell did Tucker Carlson’s group of ‘undecided’ voters think they were kidding???? They were pro-Obama by about 3 to 1. I’m thinking these people say they are undecided so they can get on tv.
Saw that smile in the first 60 seconds or so and knew he was doomed.
Actually fell asleep midway, but saw the end. Had a (married) daughter text from where she was attending a church function, and I’m looking now at what I text:
Here comes the talking heads.
(Biden smiled and laffed too much that’s my view. (Meaning mine)
Then daughter text: Tech stuff - who scored best? I didn’t quite answer that as I was all ready to text this: Biden may have helped obama altho his smirky, mugging, rude demeanor may not have helped. Very unlikeable in this venue even tho people like him in private.
There was no further texting from her. Probably ending their meeting in prayer - - - !
You’re right. Joe strikes me as a guy who is putting on an act.
He wants to come off as a cool and smart guy... in that order.
The trouble is, Joe is just a not-too-bright guy who looks plum dumb when he’s trying to pass himself off as smart. When he sees it isn’t convincing anyone, he gets mean and surly....
He’s just your typical Liberal with a whole lot of ego and no real interest in logic or demonstrated facts.
Never mind that he has an innate lack of respect for anyone with opinions which are more sophisticated than his own....also your basic Liberal behavior.
Biden’s basically the ‘Ted Knight’ of American politics... just as shallow, vain and out of touch as the silly peacock in the Mary Tyler Moore show. His dismissive and smart-alek approach to engaging an opponent and to deciding a course for the strongest, wealthiest, free-est nation in the known universe is very immature and out of place in the debates.
Shame on him.
Ryan is tons more and better informed, so he had to step down to even discuss issues with Joe... sort of like trying to kill an ant with a bowling ball.
It was a waste of HIS time and OURS
Maybe someone should have told old Joe that he should be on his best behavior and that the issues that they have let slide were ‘a big F’in deal’. It makes me sad that the current administration can laugh at how screwed up they have made things in the last 4 years. The interruptions were rude and uncalled for. Ryan acted as politely as he could given the circumstances.
Well, I never was able to get on FR at all till I woke up this morning. All in all, not the best of nights for me....and I'm being diplomatic.
I would have told her that the toilet was overflowing, would she please go take care of it.
After I got my food, of course.
I made it through all but the last 10 minutes. I could not stand Biden. He stunk up the stage.
Joe Biden’s constant interruptions of Ryan caused me (and thousands of others, I’m sure) to shout “Shut the f#@% up, Biden” at least once during the debate. I mean, his chuckling and giggling was bad enough, but the fact that he could interrupt Ryan at will, without any response from the liberal moderator, got under my skin quickly.
There’s a reason I’m not in politics - I would have jumped up from my chair and punched Joe’s lights out after about the third interruption just on general principal. Apparently, fisticuffs isn’t considered an acceptable means of disciplining an unruly opponent in a debate.
They did not build him. Satan did.
I LOL'd at this statement, becasue I must have said this five times last night.
My BP has been very good lately, but I could feel it spike every time the Delaware Dumbass opened his fat mouth.
A heartbeat away. Just wow.
At the end of the debate, when he spent five seconds whining that Paul Ryan got forty seconds and he was getting ten, I cracked up. He is the Ted Baxter of the dem party. Embrace him, you losers.
And shame on the moderator for allowing Baxter to rudely interrupt so many times- and shame on Baxter to ignore Paul Ryan’s asking for him to let him finish.
We started on the radio, and I am a numbers geek, so I was really enjoying Ryan’s discussion on how to save Medicare/Medicaid, and noticed that when he started to hit the points, Biden would lose it.
Which resulted in my son screaming at Biden through the radio. All hope was lost then. He wanted Ryan to bitch-slap him; young men, sigh.
Watched the Fox focus group. One thing did come out, the women did like Ryan. One woman called him debonaire. All found him prepared on the topics, knew his stuff. But, terribly biased focus group, if they were for O/B to begin with, they started talking about how weak Ryan was. (made me think they were plants.)
Biden brags that he was raised in a blue collar environment but, obviously, his parents did him a dis-service when it comes to teaching etiquette. People I know living in that environment would give a kid the back of their hand if a kid behaved so rudely in a conversation with another person.
Our home was technically at poverty level, and I’d have been sent into the middle of next week if I’d interrupted another person or rolled my eyes even once. Eighty-plus times, Joe? C’mon! Go back to your rubber room.
I didn’t watch ANY of it, other than what I couldn’t miss during 11PM news - and FF most of it.
From what I am reading and hearing, one must wonder how joebama would have come across had he NOT taken a week off to prepare????
From the day he was named VP, I began saying he (joebama) was BO’s ‘insurance policy’ as no one is or would be dumb enough to harm a hair on BO’s chinny-chin-chin as long as one knew joebama was a heartbeat away from the pResidency.
I have also maintained all along that BO is actually Michelle and vice versa, as they figured some one as big and intimidating as Michelle(BO) would freak people out.
For people who didn't watch it, it gives the impression the disrespect was both ways.
