Huckabee:Republicans Who Abandoned Akin Should Repent
Newsmax ^ | Wednesday, 10 Oct 2012 | Paul Scicchitano and Kathleen Walter

Conservative commentator Mike Huckabee tells Newsmax.TV that Republicans who abandoned Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin following his controversial remarks about rape should “repent.”

Huckabee, who was one of the first prominent conservatives to voice his support for Akin hopes that fellow conservatives will “repent of their sins and will get back and help Todd Akin” before it’s too late.

“It’s interesting that he is, in some polls, leading and some he’s just barely behind within the margin of error and they’ve abandoned him,” said Huckabee on Wednesday. “They’ve got other Senate candidates that they’re pouring vast amounts of resources in that are far behind where Todd Akin is.”

I wanted him gone. However, he chose to stay, and I think he's a far better choice than McCaskill, so let's support him.

He's like the Platoon Screwup who decides to charge an enemy machine gun nest before everybody else is ready....you lay covering fire and hope his attack works.

I have to admit, I thought he’d make another serious gaff by now. Doesn’t seem to be the case.

Mutt, that was a really good example. After all, even the platoon screw-up is on YOUR side, not the enemy's.

Very horrible LIBERAL behavior by some. Going all MSNBC over a comment that Akin repeatedly apologized for is not a conservative value

The abandoning of Akin only demonstrated support of McCaskill. And, the real reason so many abandoned Akin is because he is a strong pro-life conservative.

When the GOP Senate group calls for donations I tell them I sent this years contribution to Akin which I did

And, if it succeeds, he gets the Medal of Honor. If Akin DOES win the Senate seat, don’t you think he’s not beholden to the GOP-e ONE BIT.

Sorry, I do not trust Mike Huckabee.

In my book he is this generations Elmer Gantry.

Nor is getting all hung-up over a phrase without looking at the context in which it was said.

The man was trying to make a specific and scientific point on a very explosive subject, and IMHO, he never said anything he should have apologized for.

Everyone fell into the media trap of word-baiting. They got that 'legitimate' rape' soundbite stuck in their heads and just kept playing it to themselves - over and over.... and over.

--------

I was really disappointed in FReeper land. As a group, I thought we had better cognitive reasoning abilities than that.

Prince Riebus said “Get Akin!” and those FReepers dutifully said “I’ll bring the rope!”

I'm sorry. Repent? As in it was a sin?

Even though I did not attack, or pull support from, Akin I don't think that is the correct word.
And even if it is correct grammatically, it is a bad choice of words in this instance.

I’m still trying to figure out, though, why yesterday I got a recorded phone message from Huckabee touting Akin, given that I live in MASSACHUSETTS.

I am relatively new here, and was quite surprised. The reaction over Akin sure did not jibe with the super large conservative base of FReepers here. There have been worse comments from much more liberal GOP, and never the outcry like over Akin

I agree with you Seminole....very disappointing. The rope a dope dead media sure has gotten into some Freepers minds. This display of mindlessness reflects the pitiful Republican Party. I notice that the electorate mix has Independents growing and the Drats/Rrats are not.

I agree. The way some Freepers attacked those of us who pointed out how we need to fix the problem of having Democrats spent large sums of money in the Republican Primary, to win the Republican nomination for idiots like Akin, was disgusting.

And did I miss the headline when the Huckster repented for lying about having a theology degree? Same ol' Huckster. The problem isn't that he helped foist Akin on Missouri. The problem isn't that the Democrats spent a ton of $ to help Akin win the Republican Primary. The problem isn't that Akin would rather see McCaskill win, than see a Republican who doesn't share 100% of Akin's religious beliefs win. No, says the Huckster, the problem is that out of state Republicans aren't spending enough money to raise this cuckoo that he and Harry Reid have planted in the Republican nest.

If I lived in Missouri, I would try my best best to polish this tu7d, and defeat McCaskill. But if the Huckster wants to make a list of the Republicans responsible for Akin's loss, if Romney's margin isn't enough to save him, he can write "Akin, Huckabee" and put his pencil down.

Then what has Huckabee done to financially support Akin’s campaign? Talk is cheap. Akin doesn’t need talk, he needs money. Lots of it. So throw a fundraiser. Cut loose a couple of hundred grand from HuckPac. Lead by example. Don’t criticize others for not doing what you won’t do yourself.
