After each debate I like to watch MSNBC Morning Joe to see how they try to spin things. Imagine my surprise when I tuned in a few minutes ago and saw Tom Brokaw trashing Biden's debate performance. Mika and the gang (including Joe) tried to use the 'We all know Joe personally, and he is a really nice guy' routine, but Brokaw was not biting. He said Biden was so off putting in his behavior that the undecided voters would not be moved towards Obama after watching the debate.
Everyone on the show agreed that both men passed the 'one heartbeat away' test that showed they were ready to be POTUS if something happened. That was where Palin (rightly or wrongly) was crucified by the MSM.
My own cheesehead opinion was that nobody really won the debate, but that Biden was the big time loser because his antics are all any casual viewer will take away. In my book, Biden telegraphed the growing panic in the Obama campaign. If they were not worried, Biden would not have acted so boorishly. If they felt they were ahead, he would have exhuded confidence rather than anger.
Maybe Biden could be POTUS, but after his performance last night, who would want him? It's been said many times that Biden is Obama's life insurance policy.
If Biden is Obamas life boat somebody needs to count all the holes Biden drilled into the hull lately.
If something were to happen to Obama, I could definitely see Bidden becoming another Lyndon Johnson.
As another freeper said..."he's the TED KNIGHT of American politics"!!!!
You must be thinking of that old Three Stooges film where Curly tries to fix a leaking boat by drilling more holes to let the water out!
I think only the true believers like Chris Matthews can be happy with Joe’s performance.
According to Yahho “love him or hate him, it was all Joe.” His smiling and antic were just to keep Ryan off his game
What I don’t understand, is how liberals said “Biden was just like Romney, why are you so upset?”
I pointed out Romney did not laugh rudely at Obama, or smirk at his answers, or act condescending. Chris Wallace, no fan of the right, even was appalled at the attitude of Biden.
Liberals think this was a big victory for Biden...I don’t believe it because women and undecideds will think “unpresidential” and all the focus groups on TV zeroed in on Biden’s unhinged diatribe.
Biden is not Obamas lfeboat, but more of an insurance policy.
Biden’s NICE Twin!!
I think you misunderstood what Fresh Wind meant by "life insurance policy".
What he/she meant was that no one wants Joe in the driver's seat, and would never remove Obama (via impeachment or the 25th amendment).
Nixon admitted that he kept Agnew on the ticket in 1972 for that very reason. And that's why Agnew had to be removed first before impeaching Nixon.
I've always thought that the "canary in the coal mine" for Obama is Biden -- i.e. any serious effort to remove him from office would start with Biden.
If something were to happen to Obama, I could see Biden becoming another George III, and talking to trees.
In my opinion Ryan nailed it several times. Ryan also got the last words in since stupid Radovich had Biden go first on closing words.
Biden revealed the plans for the second Obamination reign (God forbid it should occur) when he said, we plan to level the playing field.
That said more than he realized - We Plan to Level the Playing Field! Chilling words. Biden let it slip.
IMHO, anyone who hasn’t made up their mind by now, with the huge difference between O and R, is not serious about politics or this country. They are the type that decides elections based on their “feelings”.
If that is so, then these last voters would be hugely turned off by Biden. Myself, I don’t need my candidate to be a “nice” guy. But I do need him moral and principled - and Biden smirking and eye rolling while Ryan talked about American values fills me with anger. He doesn’t deserve the office.
I think the Dems made a huge mistake last night.
If Hillary reminds every man of his ex-wife, Biden reminds every woman of her boorish and overbearing ex-husband.
My daughter tweeted this very thing last night...
She escaped from a very demeaning, over-bearing cruel man and she said her skin crawled just listening to Biden...she had flashbacks to the ex.
Watched Frank Luntz focus group discussion on Fox right after the debate, at the end he asked the group if any of them were still undecided on who to vote for and many said they had still not made up their minds.................unbelievable
I agree...all of us understand the lingo and shorthand they were using but the average watcher might not...Biden didn't explain any of his zingers, he said 47% a lot but didn't really explain the story, and not everyone knows about that, including my smart but disinterested wife who obviously hasn't been listening to me rant.
Average people tuned out to the facts and figures going back and forth, but could not stop being grated by Biden's cheesy rude smile.
“Biden telegraphed the growing panic in the Obama campaign”
Exactly. The Obama camp is clearly worried, and for them, at this stage of the game, it is all about tactics and optics. All anybody has been talking about the last week is Obama’s “passive” performance last week. So Biden was advised to be aggressive with Ryan, but to do so in a friendly, smiling way. He went overboard with this advice and ended up looking weird and condescending.
The undecideds, too stupid to figure it out.
I never have liked chevy chase, never found him to be all that funny. After I found out he was a lib I disliked him even more. For my $$ John Belushi and Bill Murray could always run circles around him.
i agree. Biden lost but Ryan didn't win because he never had the chance to complete a sentence. Ryan looked serious and sincere and Biden was a braying jackass. I've never seen anyone act more obnoxious in any setting in my life.
Of course Matthews would be happy. Biden acted like Matthews always acts...Like a crazed idiot!
I agree, but it was a good picture of Ted Knight with a big old crazy grin...like Uncle Joe.
It wasn’t just Biden who was interrupting last night. Martha Raddatz was horrible. As one guy on our local radio said today, in the incestuous beltway sphere between Dem politicians and the liberal media, Martha is someone who has slept with everyone.
It really showed last night. The fact Roger Ebert and Ezra Klein were tweeting about how great Raddatz was tells you all you need to know.
We got a great gift last week from Jim Lehrer. For the first time in maybe 25 years we didn’t have some crappy lefty moderator butting in to save the Dem’s ass. But last night it was back to business as usual.
If Romney wins on November 6, we will owe a debt of gratitude to JIm Lehrer for letting our guy actually get his message out. I hope that one time last week will be enough to get Romney across the finish line.
Ryan held up pretty good, considering that he was double teamed.
If Biden wasn’t interrupting him, Raddiz was, whenever Ryan was trying to make a point or was about to say something negative to The Administration.
==
Bengazi question was asked as the first question — by intent. Get it out, get it ‘vetted’ and get it over, while Ryan was still settling in, facing the sitting VP, and still a bit nervous. By the end of the debate, it was completely forgotten. Mission Accomplished.
After Biden “asshole” act last night would anyone want him to have control over nuclear weapons?
I don’t think Biden passed the one heartbeat away test. I’m frightened thinking that he could possibly be the President one day. He showed that he is not mentally stable enough to be in that position.
Look at Frank Luntz. You have to be selected by that deformed, mental midget.
Frank Luntz makes my skin crawl more than crazy joe does.
I know that Luntz kinda leans conservative but I cannot watch him and his merry band of tw_ts {insert the vowel of your choice}.
Agreed. Caddyshack was a great movie except for Chase. He was not the least bit funny.
Proverbs 29:8-10
King James Version (KJV)
8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
10 The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.
It was decided by a coin toss. Ryan won the toss and elected to go last.
Umm, the Iranians?
Even if half of them were telling the truth, the other half were afraid to openly say Ryan for fear of being attacked publicly.
There are folks out there who are just not interested in politics, but I wouldn’t expect to find them in a focus group for just that reason.
My thought is, the ones in the Luntz group, tend towards one party or the other but are stopped by something. For instance, lifelong Dems who sense the rush to Marxism that bothers them. Or the debate performances by Biden and Obama are turning them off.
That he was able to reach the US Senate and Vice Presidency is something that makes me think the movie Forrest Gump was on to something. With the exception, of course, that Mr. Gump was portrayed as having near saint like innocence and kindness and stumbled into success because of that innocence and certain amazing physical gifts. Biden is an arrogant bastard who can, when necessary, put on an average Joe act and who has a certain feral cleverness. But in a duel of wits and facts he's coming to the scrap unarmed.
Biden got 6 days of coaching on using Chicago style tactics.
Their gig (and the accompanying prestige and ego trip of being the critical undecided voters courted and quoted by both political parties) would be over if they took the enormous, unthinkable step of actually deciding.
Anybody who hasn't made up their minds in this election is the sort of person who needs it made for them. They will see which way the wind is blowing and go there. Luntz' group last night was full of people who loved what Biden did, believe it or not. They said things like he was strong and an excellent debator. But they still weren't sure. I think after they see all the negative press, they'll go with the flow and decide Biden is a cavalier meanie.
I actually think that last nights over the top aggressiveness was fully planned by the admin after Obama’s weak passive performance last week.
Biden came off as disrepectful and unhinged - the exact Polar opposite of Obama Last week.
But, this now sets up Obama to be Fairlyt aggressive next week as long as he is not as condescending and OVER THE TOP rude like Biden.
As a result Obama will come off as ‘Presidential’ and ‘respectful’ compared to the Biden performance, whereas he might have been considered ‘too aggressive’ or ‘too mean’ if there was no Wildman Joe performance in between.
I’m sure he was told it was a make-it or break-it performance.
And like most consummate politicians, he smiles as a reflex - when a camera is on him - when he’s uncomfortable - when ge feels threatened - whenever his small political mind is tick-tick-ticking away...
What concerns me is a lot of people don't realize this guy (joe butt-in) is next in line...........scary
And at one point he mentioned ARPA, even though the Dims have been told explicitly NOT to use ARPA as a talking point...
I wish that Ryan had signaled a pause, leaned over to Biden and commented loudly enough to be heard on mic, “Joe, we’re trying to have a serious debate here. Cut with the Jon Stewart wannabe antics and let’s get down to business.”
Now just imagine if the roles were reversed and Ryan had acted like Biden and vice-versa. The Dems would be howling about a rude, nasty, unhinged Ryan, and they’d be right.
Would you want Biden representing the US in serious talks with the leader of another country with views differing from his?
It appears to me that this behavior is more of a nervous tic or reaction to the discourse of the other party than a deliberate effort to be rude and disrespectful.
They're besides themselves with joy at DummyUnderground. To these nuts Biden gave Lyin' Ryan exactly what he deserved. For leftists to win debates, you shout louder and ridicule your opponent. That's why they're leftists.
