A student’s view: Biden’s debate skills rekindle Democratic base
Houston Chronicls ^ | October 12, 2012 | by Neeraj Salhotra

... Throughout the debate the vice president explained to the American people what all the president has accomplished and, in the process, inspired Democrats to recall the president’s success and remember that although Obama may have had one bad day of debating, he has had an amazing four years of leading.

This powerful closing statement, coupled with Biden’s statements during the debate, exemplified the fundamental differences between Obama and Romney, between a “We are in this together” mentality and “You are on your own” mindset. More importantly, Biden repositioned the theme of this election to the singular challenges facing America — rising income inequality and falling social mobility. These hurdles threaten the American dream, leave many Americans struggling to give their children an opportunity to succeed, and trap millions in an inescapable cycle of poverty. By transforming the narrative, outlining the president’s accomplishments, and contrasting the Obama-Biden vision with that of Romney-Ryan, Biden energized Democrats and refocused this election on the insidious inequality that excludes numerous Americans from reaching their dreams.

All Biden had to offer last night were catch-phrases. The Dems love catch-phrases and metaphors because that's all they have. So let's use a metaphor that pretty close to reality...

The ship of state has struck an iceberg but appears to still be afloat and moving. Captain Obama and Co. are totally unprepared to answer for what they have done and do not articulate any remedy because they have none. Obama and Co. ARE the problem. They have no plan to repair the damage and have absolutely no plan to change course. It's full speed ahead in the midst of an ever-growing ice field. They believe the ONLY COURSE is to replace wealth-creating capitalism with poverty-creating socialism.

When called into question or debate, socialists have difficulty with the substance of ideas and reality. The best they can do is sling metaphors or catch-phrases ("we're in this together") around and hope something sticks. Their best effort is to distract from reality like a dog and pony show on the deck of the sinking (or limping) Titanic and maybe pretend to "help" by rearranging the chairs (in this case handing out Obama phones).

Romney and Ryan need to ignore the Dems flashy distractions (except cursory mention of their purpose to distract) and continue spotlighting Obama's ruinous acts to date and his plans to continue so he can "finish what he started" (sink the ship, so he can get reassigned to a command post in the New World (Socialist) Order ).

“... this Op-Ed was probably written before the debate took place.”

My thought exactly. And, what are the odds that an unknown student could just pen an essay and have it published in the local mainstream paper the very next morning without some ‘fix’ being in?

This person is retarded. These aren't issues for adults.

Even if they were, both issues have gotten worse under Obama.

That’s how it immediately read to me.

Look at this kid’s experience as posted on LinkedIn, and it’s easy to imagine someone on Axelrod’s team having written it for him:

Research Intern at Energy Forum at the Baker Institute for Public Policy
Intern at Center for American Progress
Intern in Office of Management and Administration at White House
Research Intern at Baker Institute for Public Policy Energy Forum
Intern at Clean Line Energy Partners
Research Intern at James A. Baker III Institute For Public Policy

Acting like a complete jack@zz is NOT a “debate skill”.

What Neeraj Salhotra doesn’t tell readers: he was a staffer in the Obama White House.
If he lies about himself, imagine the lies he’ll tell about the debate!

After reading this article the only thing I could think of was, “and now a word from Professor Irwin Corey”

Heh. I met him once, and he was a pretty decent guy to get along with. Very intelligent, and it wasn't an act.

Strange that you bring that up. I met Irwin Corey him when I was 20 years old and worked part time at Music City, 7th and Hennepin, in downtown Minneapolis, while going to school.

Corey was a personal friend of the owners Harry Losk and Sonny Strouts. He was in the store and did his 'schtick" for a minute or two and then reverted to being a pretty normal intelligent guy.

That little moment made me remember him permanently.
