Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says the United States must continue sending diplomats and aid workers to the Arab world's emerging democracies, despite last month's deadly attack in Libya.
Speaking to a Washington think tank, Clinton says the U.S. cannot retreat from dangerous countries and that Americans remain leaders in "hard places where America's interests and values are at stake."
She called support for the Muslim world's democratic transitions a "strategic necessity."
Clinton's address at the Center for Strategic and International Studies comes as Republicans are criticizing the Obama administration for the Sept. 11 Benghazi attack that killed a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.

As Republicans heap criticism on Vice President Joe Biden for claiming "we weren't told" about requests for extra security at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday the precise details of the deadly Sept. 11 attack on the compound in Libya still remain unclear.
One month after the attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans, Clinton said the administration is committed to uncovering the truth about what happened.
"There is much we still don't know and I am the first to say that," Clinton told reporters at the State Department after meeting with Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi.
"But as someone who has been at the center of this tragedy from the beginning, I do know this: there is nobody in this administration motivated by anything other than trying to understand what happened," she said.

the admins way of trying to get ahead of Congressional calls to have American diplomats removed from the Middle East.
Even if congress did demand such, the admin would just deftly work around them. Just ask Michelle Obama.

This just might be the undoing of Hillary Clinton. She is desperately stalling and spinning, but the truth is already out. The only thing left to investigate is WHO GAVE THE ORDERS TO DENY our Benghazi Embassy the security they pleaded for - and WHY? We need NAMES!!!!!
Susan Rice and Jay Carney also need to be asked under oath: WHO EXACTLY TOLD YOU TO BLAME THE FILM?
And once those questions are answered, Hillary needs to be put under oath and grilled publicly. No matter who this den of snakes sacrifices or pays off to take the ‘fall’, it is ultimately HILLARY CLINTON that is responsible. The buck stops with her.
If they stick with the story that it was Intelligence, then they need to explain why our Intelligence was so faulty; A La Bill Clinton’s cruise missiles into the empty terrorist camps. Has this Admin raised those walls between Agencies again?

Not quite--cutting off aid to the Chinese Nationalists in the face of Communist aggression wasn't all that smart. My choice would be John Foster Dulles, although William Seward and Elihu Root were pretty smart.
