The European Union was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for its promotion of peace, democracy and human rights over the past six decades. The committee says it wanted to highlight the union's triumphs at a time of economic difficulty. But, the award's announcement has led some critics to question the EU's record on human rights.
Nobel Prize Committee Chairman Thorbjoern Jagland says the European Union has helped turn the continent from war to peace.
"The European Union is currently undergoing grave economic difficulties and considerable social unrest. The Norwegian Nobel Committee wishes to focus on what it sees as the European Union's most important result - the successful struggle for peace and reconciliation and for democracy and human rights," said Jagland.
During the first half of the 20th century, millions of Europeans were killed in two world wars that tore the continent apart. At the close of the Second World War in 1945, many felt something had to be done to stop such bloodshed from happening again.
The European Union has helped fulfill that aim. Today 27 countries are member states - 17 of them united in a single currency, the euro. Borders between nations have been opened up to allow free movement for EU citizens. And countries that were once violent enemies now work together for common goals.
After Obama was awarded the most recent peace peace the Nobel Peace Prize Committee in acknowledging the egregious error that was made have now eliminated presenting Nobel Peace Prize to individuals and instead have presented this year's Nobel Prize to Socialist, on-the-brink, continent-sized bureaucracies who have anything created more economic, social disarray than ever in addition to violating human rights accords by approving new member states into the EU while totally stalling on approving Turkey's application as EU member as a result of the large Muslim population that would surely flood the EU with more Islamic turmoil and terror.
Like most of the other Nobel Peace Prizes, if this was the rationale then the prize should have gone to American GI's.
ohhh, I’m laughing so hard I’m hvaing torouble typing!!!!
Here’s the EU Motto: “Peace Through Surrender, Especially to Muslims”.
The Nobel Peace Prize has been a joke and a tool for the left’s agenda ever since it was awarded to Arafat. Giving it to Gore and Hussein just underscored that fact.
The Nobel Prize for Literature is pretty much a joke these days too.
Exactly. They just ignore NATO’s much more relevant role in peace-keeping throughout the Cold War. And it wasn’t the “EU” which got called into the Yugoslavian break-up and subsequent mess, it was US forces.
Well, look at it this way: These are the same folks who gave the Peace Prize to Obama.
Riots in Greece. Riots in Spain. And the fun is just beginning. Those Norwegians must be smoking their herring again.

So much for "peace."

"Peace in our time."
The genius of Dear Reader, Obama - previous Nobel Peace Prize winner has finally been recognized!
Glory goes to the great People's Democratic Benevolent Socialist Collective of EUrabia (Peace Be Upon Them!).
In an attempt to reduce costs via prize money, the Nobel committee today announced the winners of the next four years peace prizes as Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, the New Years baby and to the first person that wished peace to all men.
A fantasy:
“We are here today to announce the Nobel Peace Prize. Just for a change of pace, we decided to follow the actual rules given in Alfred Nobel’s bequest and give it to the person or group who has done the most for peace in the previous year, which would be 2011.”
“And the winner is...SEAL TEAM 6!!!”
“The problem is they are anonymous for security reasons so none of them could be here to accept this prize right here...wait, where did it go?...It was here just a minute ago...what the...”
“You know, I have no idea how they pulled that off, but I think we can assume the winners have the prize in their possession. A big round of applause, please!”
