Second ATF Office Mysteriously Closed: Yuma
politico44 ^ | 10/10/12 | Mary Chastain

ATF Special Agent Tom Mangan told the RGJ the Yuma site was closed because it wasn’t busy and didn’t have anything to do with a rift with the US Attorney’s office.

I find it hard to believe the ATF in Yuma, AZ, a border town, was not busy. If this is happening in Reno and a border town it has to be happening in other places. Unfortunately, no one is answering. All questions must be directed to the Department of Justice, the most professional stonewallers of all.

Not sure if it’s related but just out of town there I heard there is some super spooky CIA air base. Not a huge one, OK? Lots of civvy-style spook planes out there, and I heard they had a big role moving lots of guns south.

Some pretty interesting stuff written about it about a year ago, even with some photos.

They were flying mostly Pilatus and Cessna Caravan, I think.

Many of us would be happy if the entire ATF was shut down.

Just remember. When you are surrounded you’re free to attack in any direction you wish.

Yeah, that might have been it. But I remember that it had a LOT to do with the DEA, also.

Aside from very expensive radio gear, none of the a/c were of military type.

The reporters appeared to be older pilot types who made a hobby of running down tail reg numbers, and sometimes sort of camping out with powerful binocs outside of airports, and these was one that all captured their interest.

I’m still trying to dig up some links, but at the time they were all saying these guys had something to do with F&F.

I’ll post if I run across it.

The ATF...is yet another trouble-making Federal Agency that shoulda ceased to exist about the day after Waco...

I live in Yuma and we do have a super secret air bases and research and development. I worked in R&D at Yuma Proving Ground for 22 years. The big air base is the Marine Corps Air Station. They do a lot of training there and are incredibly busy. They have lots of different and new aircraft operating there. I particularly was impressed with watching the V-22 Osprey coming in and landing.

Then we have the Barry Goldwater bombing and test range. We are on the west end of it and it extends about halfway across the State to the east. Lots of aircraft from several facilities use it. Ground access is controlled from MCAS, which I know, because one of my buddies used to get permission to go out with his military vehicle collecting friends and fire off muzzle loading mortars and licensed machine guns.

I would be remiss if I did not mention Yuma Proving Ground which has all sorts of interesting projects and tests going on with dozens of cutting edge platforms from UAVs to the latest helicopter gun systems to smart artillery shells and improved vehicles, just about anything that the Army needs tested is done there, in part because YPG is the closed analog to the Middle East that we have in the United States.

This is the first that I have heard about an ATF office closing. In Yuma, it might be only one agent. Yuma is only about a 100K city, though in the winter it might swell with tourists to three times that. I have lots to do with the election coming up, but if anyone has a specific question, I might find the time to check into it.

Open crossing on the border for Holder’s Mexican drug cartel and Obammy jihadists? Yes it is.

Mark, I was pulling a quote from a comment gaijin made - I have no idea about any secret bases. Those are in gaijin’s area. That said, I enjoyed your comments. I always suspected there was an interesting story behind you - and I was right. Thanks for sharing.
