In fact, a mighty battle is now developing in Germany between green fantasists and practical realists. Because renewable energy must by law have priority in supplying the grid, the owners of conventional power stations, finding they have to run plants unprofitably, are so angry that they are threatening to close many of them down. The government response, astonishingly, has been to propose a new law forcing them to continue running their plants at a loss.

Spain’s green disaster should have been the rotting corpse of the canary in the coalmine.
but follow the money....someone is making out bigtime...
sort of like the roundabouts they keep putting up in every little dinky corner just because they want to show us who's boss..

Idaho Powers long-term purchase agreement with wind farms requires the utility to buy electricity from the farms even when demand for power is low, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said Thursday.
Idaho Power officials have contended that the Public Utilities Regulatory Policies Act, or PURPA, should allow the company to halt contractually required electricity purchases during periods of light load, such as at night in the spring and fall.
The utility company said the requirement to buy from wind farms even during times of low demand forces it to back down other energy generators like coal-fired plants, and bringing the other systems back up when demand increases costs the utility more. Those costs are passed on to consumers, the company said.
I HATE the visual blight of these monstrosities. The are all over the beautiful Coastal Range in California where I live. Our gorgeous Coachella Valley is ruined. We visited my Uncle in Twin Falls, ID over Labor Day and the foreign companies are totally despoiling the vistas from Boise to Twin. We went to a wedding in Iowa last year and the cornfields from Des Moines to Cedar Rapids are filled with these ugly things.
The green kooks have the upper hand and are RUINING our once-beautiful nation with these ridiculous money-losers. When the subsidies eventually run out, they will all fail and rust in place, too. There are no bonds posted to tear the damn things down and restore the once-beautiful land, either, unlike surface mines. What a disaster — all caused by God damned government.
This read just like “Directive 10-289” from Atlas Shrugged. gives me the chills to see how far we have allowed the givernment to control us. When will we all collective say enough is enough?
Ping.

Too bad we don't have Ragnar Danneskjöld capturing the IMF bail out money bound for Europe.
Check my tagline. It appeared on a sign carried by a demonstrator in the movie.
Having lived in Germany for sixteen years...I can offer this analysis of the wind-power stuff.
First, you put wind-mills up in clusters....preferably where wind is documented to occur at least 250 days out of the year. I used to pass by three wind-mills on the way to work and coming home. I’d say that thirty percent of the time...the wind-mills were stationary or barely moving. The rest of the time...for twenty-four hours a day....they did rotate.
Second, every year....there’s at least a thousand wind-mills put up. Typically, it’s paid and run by a investment group, which you as a investor gets into....mostly because of such few tax credits that exist in the German system (you can deduct your investment from the taxes you pay). Your hope here...is maybe in a decade...power rates reach a point where you actually turn three and four percent return on your investment...which today might be lucky to pay you back between one and two percent a year.
Third, the experts can accurately predict that wind will be minimum at various times of the year....which means that you need a back-up system online....to suddenly come up and provide power. You can never dump coal or nuke energy entirely (no, they never explain this part of the story).
Fourth, the noise hum is now something pops up and no town will allow a wind-mill within two or three miles of city limits. Farmers aren’t happy because they don’t want them near their cows.
The watermelons are going to end up killing a lot of people which is fine with them and the ultimate goal of the global warming agenda.
It’s cold in Germany and without heat, carbon generated by human beings will be reduced.
As of yet, no wind farm has survived the expiration of its federal subsidy. Like clockwork, at the 25-yr mark, the windmills are shut down...and abandoned.
I remember that.
I parodied it.

So... If the owners of the conventional plants are required by law to operate at a loss, I wonder how long it is until they run out of money for fuel?
I’m anxiously awaiting the next sensible stages:
5: We declare the whole wind energy scam to be the boondoggle it really is.
6: Order them all torn down and the land restored to its pristine condition.
7. New coal and nuke plants built in their place.
8. The politicians who created and endorsed this expensive and useless crap are all throw in jail with life sentences.
Nice.
