U.S. Ambassador Terry Kramer warned on Friday that a proposal to give a United Nations agency more control over the Internet is gaining momentum in other countries.

Proposals to expand the U.N.'s International Telecommunications Union's (ITU) authority over the Internet could come up at a treaty conference in Dubai in December. European telecommunications companies are pushing a plan that would create new rules that would allow them to charge more to carry international traffic.

The proposal by the European Telecommunications Network Operators' Association could force websites like Google, Facebook and Netflix to pay fees to network operators around the world.

I’m sure Obama can’t wait to get his pen out and sign anything the UN comes up with, especially if it has the words ‘fee’ or ‘tax’ in them.

I’m reading “Here Come The Black Helicopters-UN Global Governance and the Loss of Freedom”, by Dick Morris.

This is what the UN wants and what Obama, if given the chance, will sign on to:

Establishing an Economic Security Council to oversee worldwide economies

Authorizing the United Nations and its agencies to impose global taxes

Instituting a UN army Terminating the veto power of the permanent members of the UN (which, of course, includes the US)

Creating an International Criminal Court

Creating a new body of the UN for “civil society,” where advocates for the environment, population control, etc., can play a role in policy making

Placing the authority for regulating the production and distribution of arms in the UN (gun control by another name)

Granting mandatory jurisdiction in the International Court of Justice for all members. (The US had not accepted this.)

Ceding jurisdiction over the global commons, such as oceans,

UNaccountable bureaucrats are socialists.

BIG GOVERNMENT IS CRONY SOCIALISM

DEFUND socialist collectives, foreign and domestic.

DEPOPULATE socialists from the body politic.

DISMANTLE their plundering “organizations”.

live - free - republic (as very low-taxed, responsible individuals in a constitutionally limited republic)

Of course Obama would let the UN do this, tax us and take over our Internet.

When will we say “ no more this is America and let CW2 begin” ?

Agreed. And a plan like this could end up making a global equivalent of the “Great Firewall of China”. The UN lets member states shut down websites they find offensive or require higher fees to see because it is a legal liability and requires additional monitoring.

I do believe that this would essentially kill the internet in this country. No sane American would then want internet access.

Businesses might go along with this plan but then if there is no one to sell their goods to then why would the businesses even bother.

So if the internet search engines stopped listing all products from europe, and refused to pay taxes to Europe, this is a win for the EU?

Greed trumps common sense in socialist societys.
