Jay McInerney on Obama: 'We have to give him a second chance'
The Guardian ^ | 10/14/2012 | Jay McInerney

Posted on 10/14/2012 7:48:20 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Jay McInerney, 56, is the author of Bright Lights, Big City and Brightness Falls. His latest book is the short story collection How It Ended

Last week I was at a party in a Manhattan art gallery attended by the inevitable mix of artists, journalists and wealthy art collectors. I ran into a friend, a painter, who is a strong supporter of the Democratic party, but she told me she wasn't donating money to the Obama campaign this year. "He's been a huge disappointment," she said. "Not one major Wall Street banker has been held accountable for the financial crash, and he's extended the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy. I just can't get enthusiastic about him. I don't even know if I'll vote."

In another part of the room a group of art collectors, most of whom worked in the financial industry, were clutching plastic glasses of cheap white wine and complaining about Obama from the opposite end of the political spectrum. "He's a socialist," said one, a short, bald man who runs a huge hedge fund. "He hates people like us." His friends all nodded in agreement.

"Socialist" is the nastiest thing you can say about an American politician in some quarters. For years the Republican party depended on the spectre of the evil Soviet Union to stir up nationalistic impulses and demonised the left as unpatriotic; many on the right interpreted the collapse of the Soviet bloc as proof of the bankruptcy of socialist principles. For his part, Obama has done precious little to deserve the "socialist" title – he has yet to repeal the massive Bush tax cuts to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans – although his healthcare reform package, which cost him so much time and political capital to get through Congress,

He had plenty of chances. A second term is not a second chance.

If by second chance you mean a prison cell, then OK.

‘We have to give him a second chance’

To do what? Totally destroy the country?
We already have 23 million out of work, an additional $6 TRILLION is debt from one presidential term, gas prices that have doubled. Obozo has added more to the national debt than ALL PREVIOUS PRESIDENTS COMBINED! Then there is the Obamacare MONSTROSITY!

We have to give this clown a second chance to inflict more misery?
YEAH, RIGHT!

The writer of this lame piece of excrement needs to go back on his meds.

A huge, narcissistic, incompetent, inattentive, lazy failure. Yet we must "give him a second chance". Why? Because he is black? Half-black? A Socialist? Just why in the hell why?

He occupies (note, this isn't the same as executes) the office of the president (nor does he deserve capitalization) much like he occupied a slot on the rolls of Occidental, Columbia, or Harvard, an unqualified candidate whose only qualification was being black, and/or likely claiming to be a foreigner, to boot.

Black people of this country should be sorely ashamed at how the liberal media makes such pathetic excuses for his inept performance. They should be ashamed that all the hard work they've done, despite the hamstrings of affirmative action, has been counteracted, and the ultimate conclusion is that many white people, red people, yellow and brown people will take this affirmative action 'exceptionalism' that says "I'm black, and that's enough."

Through their acceptance of him, they perpetuate the racism (or the misplaced perception thereof) they seek to eradicate.

Spin your revisionist history and denial however you want libtards, the USSR was an evil and oppressive place that was even more "imperialist" than the United States.

Socialism is unAmerican. It is contrary to the founding principles of this country. There WERE willing partners in the United States who aligned themselves with Communist leaders in Cuba, Vietnam, Russia, and elsewhere.

Wahhh wahhh wahh. Just because the 1968 red diaper doper baby trust fund revolutionaries now ARE the establishment in academia and media and the DNC does NOT mean that their agenda can be presented in naked daylight to the American public who will reject it when they know what they are being sold.

One time I took my car to a mechanic who completely screwed up a job he did changing my power steering fluid. I decided to go to another mechanic who then did the job right. But I guess I should have gone back to the first guy to give him a “second chance”.

Barack Obama is either a traitor to this country or the foreign agent of another, and “what we have to give him” is incarceration.

Jay: The only things in life that we “have to do” are to die and pay taxes. And we can do something about the latter, if not the former.

""Not one major Wall Street banker has been held accountable for the financial crash"

They don't dare 'hold them accountable' because the first thing they will do is explain how they were FORCED TO MAKE BAD LOANS BY THE GOVERNMENT

Stupid democrats created the bomb and Andrew Cuomo lit the fuse by suing the first bank for 'discrimination' for not giving loans to people who could not pay them back.

All the other banks got the message- do it and we will back the securities with government guarantees- and if you don't we will sue you into oblivion.
