A North Carolina universitys student government has voted to ban a Chick-fil-a restaurant on campus because the fast-food chains president is against gay marriage.
Elon Universitys Student Government Association voted 35-11 to ask its food vendor to find another restaurant to take its place, the Daily Advance reports.

Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Boycott UNC and graduates of this bigoted institution.
Elon is private, small college, not a UNC. Lots of the students come from the north east and not NC
Does Chick fil A have a lease or agreement with the student government association or with the university?
I’m thinking the association may not have standing to nullify any lease or agreement.
Any attorneys out there?
probably a bunch of yamdankees infiltrated that little school’s student body
So in the name of “Tolerating All Viewpoints”, they banned an organization for having a different viewpoint.
That’s true, and they changed their athletics mascot from “Fighting Christians” to “Phoenix” a number of years ago, blatantly thumbing their noses at the very heritage of the school.
Screw the Student council. They don’t know anything about business, and no one at Elon is teaching them apparently.
Here’s an important lesson for those student government kids: the vote didn’t kick chik fil a off campus at all, the student government doesn’t have that authority, and it doesn’t hold the contracts for food services.
If I were the school’s administration, I’d issue a concise statement for the student newspaper explaining the choice they are really trying to make, and promise to raise student fees in the next year by exactly what it will cost the college to break the contract (including applicable legal fees, and noting that the full costs will be borne in a single year so as to most directly reflect the current student body’s wishes) After the student body had a chance to mull that over for a week or so, then ask the student government to vote again.
I have a nephew at Elon. It is quite the liberal bastion. I’m sure that both he and his mother support this move. His brother, probably not quite so much - he just got back from Afghanistan and now knows better.
careful there, this is about Elon Univ, a small liberal arts college in NC
This time next year, this same clueless “student government” will be biotching that there are no “affordable choices” on campus.
And the beat goes on, and the beat goes on....
Good. That tells me all I need to know about their graduates.
“Hey, dudes! I’m makin’ a CFA run. Takin’ orders.”
“OK, that’ll be 250 spicy chicken sandwiches. Gimme the cash and I’m on the road!”
How does Student Council have any say in contracts with vendors?
Note to Elon University: Do not even THINK of asking me for a donation.
So the fast-food chains president is against perversion and the remedy is to ban the fast food chain. It’s amazing how sick, twisted and totally turned around the country’s values have become since I was a kid.
Stupidity knows no bounds
...Or is this just the SGA going thru the motions of elementary liberalism... ??
I work with an Elon grad who is one of the most air-headed people I’ve ever know.
I’d love to hear a lawyers perspective on the most severe path CFA can take against the council and the university.
If the propagandists on the student government manage to get the school’s policy changed, the Chick-fil-A folks ought to sue the sue for all its worth. A blatant case of stifling free speech.
George Orwell’s “1984” and thought police! Chick-fil-A (CfA) has no history of denial of service or employment to any GLBT group or person on the basis of their orientation.
Instead, the owner of CfA is a devout Christian with an accepted and common view of Christian mores. He lives his principals by closing the entire chain on Sundays (”Day of Rest”) and supporting traditional marriage.
The LGBT pressure groups use this media-driven topic to try to punish a company for the dislike they have for its owner. to me this meets the definition of a “Secondary Boycott”; A group’s refusal to work for, purchase from, or handle the products of a business with which the group has no dispute. In many areas this is considered an illegal action by trade unions but not by individuals. Where this action ends up will become the unfortunate province of the lawyers and courts.
So sorry. Did not read the post thoroughly or properly parse the title.
Elon appears to be one of those dopey little leftist schools.
Apologies to all UNC-affiliated Freepers.
That headline made me look twice as well.
Elon has become like a little kid sister taking up bad habits trying to be like the big kids, they’re quite the bunch of strivers and have never met a goofy academic fad that they didn’t dive into with abandon. See, they’re a big university now. Woohoo. Silliness.
Three decades ago, they were a small pro-Christian college. Abandoned their mascot for a meaningless legendary bird that has nothing to do with the institution. Went on a building spree like all the state run universities. Me too, me too!
They’re going to find that older alums, the ones who actually have money to donate, won’t like this. They graduated as Fighting Christians.
Let’s see here, government interfering with private business over policy issues................hmmmmmmmmm
They are 16 trillion in debt. They better get their ass to work.
Maybe not bigoted, but faggoted?....I can’t believe this in NC!
I wouldn’t mess directly with them but set up Chick Filet right across the street from the main entrance.
Yep. Elon is one of those angry lesbian studies colleges.
don’t apologize to the UNC freepers - they know their institution is king daddy liberal udopia for the state, and Elon is just a chapel hill wannabe....
That’s a pretty good analysis of what ,who Elon is.
I was shocked sh!tless to find this in the student paper:
It’s their right to do this. Doesn’t make them right to do this.
I don't think these idiots understand how this all works...
How Marxist of them, these little skulls full of mush.
Stupid sheep, our young people with skulls full of mush.
I hope you’ll ask Elon grads who make it to interview what their opinion of the boycott is. They aren’t all mentally retarded.
The intolerance and hypocrisy is just amazing isn’t it?
Write down the names of the students and then follow their careers. This can be used against them and anyone who hires them, if they don’t fire them upon learning about this history.
It would be interesting to see where in the workforce garbage like these students end up.
God created them Adam and Eve; not Adam and Steve.
Eve & Adam; not Eve & Sandra Fluck. - I also believe God ordained marriage; up until now, that was my right.
Now, it appears, no one has any rights at all excepting these communist yahoos.
My son is a 1996 graduate of Elon. Next weekend is homecoming/reunion and will be attending. Incidentally, he is a conservative.
Hey everyone, I’m a conservative senior economics major at Elon University and wanted to let you all know what really happened.
The student government (SGA) decided to hold an open forum on the supposed issue of Chickfila on campus because SPECTRUM (an LGBTQ organization) has the opinion that Chickfila should be banned from campus because of Chickfila donating to supposed ‘anti-gay’ organizations.
This open forum was held the day before fall break started during midterms week and on the same night as the VP debate, thus eliminating the possibilities of most business school students or many other students who are conservative to attend due to our midterms or our wanting to watch the VP debate. The open forum wasn’t advertised that much and mostly all of SPECTRUM showed up to the open forum. For three straight hours many of their members gave emotional stories to support their opinion, which is ridiculous. There were some people there trying to show the common sense to everyone else there that Chickfila and Dan Cathy specifically is entitled to its own rights. Seeing all the SPECTRUM people there, most of the senators probably felt like they had no other choice but to vote for it.
For the first time I am ashamed of my university because of this decision. I don’t understand how the people who want everyone else to be tolerant of their sexual orientation can’t be tolerant of other people’s religious beliefs. Most of the campus has the same view I do, in the fact that Chickfila should stay and that this decision basically throws the first amendment out the window. The next step is in the president of SGA’s hands, who I personally know. He is a big conservative and has the power of vetoing the motion to suggest to the administration to ban Chickfila. If he doesn’t veto, the administration will debate over the issue and come to a final decision.
Any and all advice is welcome because I don’t want my university to be in the spotlight for this and I don’t want to be graduating from a university who supports this kind of ludicrous liberal movement.
I’m a conservative senior Economics major at Elon and I would like to say that we are a relatively conservative school. The forum though was unfair to most of the people on campus because it was on the same night as the VP debate, it was midterms week, and it was the night before fall break. Mostly all SPECTRUM members (LGBTQ org. on campus) showed up and there were only a few conservative minds.
I find it ridiculous that the decision was made and hopefully the SGA president decides to veto it. I just can’t understand how the people who ask for the most tolerance can’t be tolerant of other people’s religious beliefs.
