Obama Builds N.M. Lead Over Romney (49% to 39%, Johnson 6%)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | October 14, 2012 | Michael Coleman

President Barack Obama leads Republican Mitt Romney by 10 points in the race for New Mexico’s five electoral votes, with about three weeks remaining before Election Day, the Journal Poll found.

The Democratic president had 49 percent support in the statewide survey of likely voters, and some who had already voted, compared with 39 percent of voters who said they preferred Romney.

Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party nominee for president, had 6 percent support in the survey. Five percent of New Mexico voters were undecided.

The Journal Poll was conducted Oct. 9-11. The margin of sampling error for the statewide sample of voters is plus or minus 3.8 percentage points. Early voting for the Nov. 6 general election started Oct. 9.

Barack Obama has solidified his lead in New Mexico,” said Brian Sanderoff, president of Albuquerque-based Research & Polling Inc., which conducted the poll. “He’s broadened his lead in the Albuquerque metro area and among independents, and that has led to an increased lead statewide.”

Does the UC Boulder model factor in demographic shifts in the states? This isn’t their grandmother’s NM, and the recent polls (and where Romney is spending his money) are speaking very supportively of this assertion.

I think Obama should spend plenty of time in New Mexico to consolidate this lead.

Northwest NM has a lot of Mormons and a fair amount live in the ABQ area (they built a temple there about 15 years ago that was open to visitors before consecration or whatever they call it).

I don’t know. Dsertrhino told me in 2008 that the Hispanics thought Barry was a Muslim and was not going to vote for him.

Since this poll was done before Biden’s laughing hyena impersonation, I will ignore it’s implications.........

“Why don’t you go to their site and find out?”

I just did and there is no mention of their factoring in demographic shifts/influences. But I realize that doesn’t mean they don’t include these issues in their model.

I make this point because certain voting blocks (blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals and Jews) firmly vote Democrat regardless of economic/income factors. If it were all about unemployment and personal income one would expect California would be a battleground state.

Better than that, how many MORONS live in NM? Glad we decided NOT to retire there. Albuquerque is a hot bed of liberalism. Too bad since the state is really beautiful.

Helping keep mankind warm for 65 years.

Romney and superpacks need to run ads about Fast and Furious and ads with Obama (in his own voice) joking about making the Mexican maids cry when they would trash their dorms.

I wore my R-R tee shirt out and about Saturday while my wife and daughter were shopping. We always hit the Goodwills, Salvation Army, Waterfront Mission and other Thrift Shops in our area, plus regular discount stores.

People would come up to me and WHISPER, “I like your shirt!” like they didn’ t want anyone to overhear, or like we were in a secet society.

I’ d get nods and winks and a couple of high fives. It’s like people are truly AFRAID to express ANY SUPPORT for anyone other than Obozo.

This is truly frightening in a country that is founded on Freedom of Speech. I express MY views in an benign and ordinary way, and people react like I have done something extraordinary.

The number of people who did actually say something wanted to keep their voices low and quickly move on was at least encouraging.

I believe people in general are truly fed up with Obama thugs and will turn out on Nov 6 in huge numbers that will devastate the media and democrat party..........

The Romney campaign pulled key staff (and money) out of NM September 20:

Very few Obama/Romney ads except on national cable.

Local ads dominate the 5 and 6 p.m. local news and morning drive stations.

I sure hope you’re right.

OTOH, the media has fed the Rat narrative that if anyone isn’t for Obama, it must be because they are a racist. So that could be the reason for the almost clandestine show of support for your attire.

New Mexico is slowly, but surely, “tipping left” and turning blue.

It’s now the second state in which Euros are a minority (California was first, of course). The emerging Hispanic majority in NM will not embrace conservatism any time soon, probably never.

Came upon an interesting article the other day at a website that can’t be linked to here on FR. It was a lengthly piece, well documented with charts and graphs, that surveyed the political affiliations of Hispanics, both first-generation immigrants and their native-born children. Amazingly, although large numbers of the immigrants themselves support the liberals, EVEN MORE of their native-born children do. The kids end up being more liberal than the parents. So much for the Pollyannish talk I hear from some to the effect, “just wait, the kids will become more conservative as they get ‘Americanized’”...

As went California, so goes New Mexico. And because the overwhelming number of births in Texas are now to Hispanics (more than 70%), someday Texas will follow, as well.
