Florida Passes Plan For Racially-Based Academic Goals

Palm Beach, Fla. (CBS TAMPA) – The Florida State Board of Education passed a plan that sets goals for students in math and reading based upon their race.

On Tuesday, the board passed a revised strategic plan that says that by 2018, it wants 90 percent of Asian students, 88 percent of white students, 81 percent of Hispanics and 74 percent of black students to be reading at or above grade level. For math, the goals are 92 percent of Asian kids to be proficient, whites at 86 percent, Hispanics at 80 percent and blacks at 74 percent. It also measures by other groupings, such as poverty and disabilities, reported the Palm Beach Post.

The plan has infuriated many community activists in Palm Beach County and across the state.

“To expect less from one demographic and more from another is just a little off-base,” Juan Lopez, magnet coordinator at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Riviera Beach, told the Palm Beach Post.

JFK Middle has a black student population of about 88 percent.

Our kids, although they come from different socioeconomic backgrounds, they still have the abillity to learn,” Lopez said. “To dumb down the expectations for one group, that seems a little unfair.”

Others in the community agreed with Lopez’s assessment. But the Florida Department of Education said the goals recognize that not every group is starting from the same point and are meant to be ambitious but realistic.

Robinson called the state board’s actions essentially “proclaiming racism” and said she wants Palm Beach County to continue to educate every child with the same expectations, regardless of race. ........Another great idea by liberals.

As if we really needed further proof that liberalism is a mental disorder.

what a dilemma. if you are black do you want the lower standards so you can get better grades?

Well, we know the blacks will never make that 74%, because we all know that they just can't do that well.

I do believe that the board of education just proved that it is beyond stupid already so that they would naturally expect less from everyone.

How convenient, we dumb down every child to what might be expected from the entitlement class!

I bet Juan Lopez has no problem with expecting less from one demographic when it comes to getting into Harvard or Yale.

Who are the RACISTS now? When they rank our school scores with those of other schools around the world, which race’s scores will they use to represent America?

So much for being color blind. This is disgusting.

Why is race an acceptable way to divide up students? And then tell me why is it the only acceptable way?

Promoting the idea that people should be categorized by race with each category being treated differently is absolute racism.

What are the grade targets for left-handed lesbian midget non-smokers?

Robinson has it wrong, facing reality is not racism. If these goals were not set the failure rate for Black students would be higher and then there would be real screaming.

More liberal racism. And it is pretty bad when other liberals call it just that.

The irony here (that all of the complaining liberals are surely missing) is that, if looked at honestly, this is not one iota different than affirmative action. Not one bit.

It’s easier to pretend that affirmative action is something other than what it is: condescending racism designed to indenture blacks to the liberal plantation.

But they can’t dip this turd in chocolate and call it a Bon Bon. Har har har. Don’t worry though, all of these complainers will still be voting Democrat in 3 weeks.

For the love of Pete. I've never met an Asian-American who was illiterate. I even knew a Korean man who won spelling bees as a kid.

He told me:(boop), I wasn't even BORN in America, and English is my second language.

My guess is by 2018: 100% Asian literacy. "White" in the 90s. Heck even Hispanic higher than African-Americans.

Please don't ban me.

America’s teachers’ unions have made it illegal to teach blacks to read & write...haven’t we been here before?

“It’s easier to pretend that affirmative action is something other than what it is: condescending racism designed to indenture blacks to the liberal plantation.”

It is much worse than that; it is the end of “European-American” opportunity, and the demographic consequences of that.

Been to a maternity ward lately?

When I was in college the big six accounting firms (there were six left back then) would send recruiters not to the Accounting Society, but to “NABA” (National Association of Black Accountants) - whites need not apply.

I’m so glad they’ve been taken over by H1-B Asians at this point (like tech firms) - now ALL Americans need not apply.

Isn’t this an example of the “soft bigotry of low expectations” that President Bush talked about? Only, now it seems that the low expectations are being writ in stone.

I guess the simple solution...to not advance students to the next grade level until they master the skills of their current grade level, won't work?

If we individually measure the mastering of skills, some exceptional children would graduate 12th grade at age 10, most would graduate between 14-19, and some few will never graduate high school at all.

Are academic goals really designed for students or are they designed for teachers?
